    The Ruger LCP is the go-to pocket pistol for a lot of people. The only problem was that it had a relatively low capacity.
    Now Ruger has come out with the LCP max which boasts an impressive 10 rounds with just an incremental increase in size.

    At 10 ounces, this is a shootable pocket pistol, and the one you will have when you need it. Only a fool thinks a properly loaded 380 is a mouse gun. It is a close range life saving round. This little thing stays in my pocket, out of sight and out of mind. It's nice to shoot and fits comfortably in my hands. I have the LCP II and love it. I have big hands, and I had no trouble getting a good purchase on the gun, even if it was thin and small.. Purchased 3 of the extended 7 round magazines (solved the small issue, a little bit longer went a long way) and a Viridian Reactor instant-on laser and it was the perfect package. Once the laser was set, you couldn't miss at 25 yards, even hip shooting! It was video game easy to hit your target. But then the LCP MAX came out and what I thought was the perfect package... Wasn't. I still loved it, but once I held the LCP MAX, I knew. Bought one, and 3-12 round magazines, the Viridian laser fit perfect from the LCP II to the MAX. Went from carrying 21+1 rounds to 36+1 in the same thin, small magazine pouch and the same DeSantis holster that came with the Viridian. I wear the DeSantis between my waistband and my bet (inside the belt?) right side at 3:00-3:30, and the magazine pouch on my left side at 9:00, and no matter what shirt I wear, as long as it isn't tucked in, you truly cannot see it. It just doesn't print. And again, once the laser was set, it is video game easy to hit the target at 25 yards, with every single shot center mass. And Colion is absolutely right. I don't know what voodoo they did to this thing, but the recoil is negligible. It's not .22lr soft, but it's not much worse, and is SO SO EASY to manage. Staying on target for a follow up shot is laughingly easy, even with the laser off, but the laser truly makes it THE PERFECT self defense tool. Unless I am going to be somewhere that forbids me to carry on their premises, it is on me anytime I leave my house.

    *I started out with the LCP and for a couple years it was my EDC. yeah it wasn't "Great" not really even "good" but it was compact and easy to carry in my back pocket or Jacket pocket undetected. the trigger was a little stiff for my liking but everything else about the gun was perfect. I now have the LCP max and i've given my mother my original LCP so that she'll have something in the event that she needs it. my entire family are concealed carry permit holders (all but my 3 daughters) i chose to buy another LCP because the size is perfect and this one being a 10 round is perfect however i have ordered the 12 round magazine for it already too. the longer magazine will help me keep a third finger on the gun as it's shooting. i shoot a 7" group at 35 yards with it pulling up from the hip to ready, fire and i really missed my LCP while it's been with my mother so the max was just the next sensible option for me. no discomfort carrying it. no printing through my clothes, no one getting nervous and getting you kicked out of fast food places or libraries or the like because they are nervous and scared when they even see a gun. it's just the best portable option to go incognito and still be able to protect yourself*

    the "voodoo magic" they did on the lcp max was making the grip significantly longer and thicker than the LCP 2 which was also significantly thicker than the original LCP. Another here still loving the original LCP. Trigger being good or not is rather subjective. I for one like the longer trigger pull and the fact it is only partially cocked and can't set off a round without the trigger being pulled all the way. The Max and the II are not even close to the concealability of the original. Have tried both. No way no how. The Max sounds like a great idea, and looks good till you realize how much wider and heavier it has gotten. If you live in the type of neighborhood where seven rounds won't get it done, you need think about getting a bigger gun (or move).

    Just my opinion: I am a retired LEO/ CSI. For years I felt a pistol with a 5-6 round capacity was adequate for civilian carry. This is because the normal number of attackers for years appeared to be 1 or 2 and it appeared that allowing 2-3 rounds per attacker was reasonable. But in recent years that norm appears to have changed. Now 2-4 attackers is not that uncommon.
    So now I feel that a pistol with a capacity of 8-12+ rounds is a better choice with extra reloads/magazines advisable. For practice I believe a minimal of four (4) target at ranges between 3-15 yards would work well with an occasional fifth target out to 25 yards. For those limited to indoor ranges switching between multiple bulls eyes on a single target at closer ranges in addition to shooting the traditional targets might be advisable. I also think shooting pelvis, center mass, and then head in that order has four advantages.
    1. The pelvis is nearest the center of gravity making it the slowest moving part of the body.
    2. Body armor is becoming more common and the pelvis is below a lot of body armor.
    3. Raising a pistol from low ready the pelvis will be the first good target of opportunity.
    4. When firing in a hurry from low ready high misses are not uncommon. A high miss on the pelvis hits center mass.

    • @wheelguns4wheelmen802
      @wheelguns4wheelmen802 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'd guess two, maybe three, reasons. First, LCP II weights 1.2 ounces more than the LCP. That means less felt recoil. Second, the original Ruger LCP had 9 lbs. recoil spring I believe and 11 lbs. is factory standard for LCP II. Third, the improved grip texture likely makes it so it bounces around less in your hand, which gives the appearance of less recoil.

I, like you, was impressed by the size of the LCP series but unimpressed by its shooting impressions, both accuracy and its recoil and shooting feel. When the Max came up I almost passed because how different could it be??
    Well, as you know it’s night and day. This is shockingly fun to shoot and after my first 7 yard mag printed 1” groups amazingly accurate. I love your explanation! It is some kind of Voodoo magic shit, as it is as soft as my WCB MC9 (can’t believe I just compared those two but to be clear it is not nearly the same experience overall).
    They say that you can only become proficient at shooting the guns you shoot which is a great axiom and the primary reason I would never carry the LCP. This one comes with me on most range trips and I already have 500 rounds of flawless shooting through it. The only downside is that it’s a pain in the ass to clean because it requires a tool but that is a small price to pay for this highly underrated shooter.

    Problem is finding .380 ammo reliably, because I own one of these and it absolutely hates cheap steel cased ammo. If you’re running brass it’s not an issue, but steel makes it choke and fail to feed a lot more than is acceptable. On the plus side, you get a whole lot of malfunction training with this gun if you’re running enough steel case ammo through it.

      @MrGriff305I carried the lcp2 for 3 years in the left pockets of my basketball shorts. I Even slept with it. It did an excellent job of looking like a wallet.
      Now I carry the lcp max. It weighs almost the same, gives you 4 or 6 more rounds, and has better sights. Being wider is a tradeoff, but it helps when training at the range.
      If maximum concealment is top priority, then you should carry the lcp2 with confidence.
      In my area, if I ask nicely at the gun shop, they will let me make sure the gun fits in my pocket

    I’m really glad you review a decent amount of Ruger firearms. Unless it’s the 10/22, for some reason you just don’t see a lot of reviews on Rugers. My EDC is a Ruger SR40c. If I were to do it all over again I would probably go with a 9 mm, but I am committed to my .40 now and really like my Ruger and I’ve gotten proficient at it. Great to see someone highlight the Ruger company like this because I think they make a fine firearm in addition to being wallet friendly.

  • @DanielBoone337
    @DanielBoone337 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The convenience factor alone is what made me buy the LCP 2 but for the capacity you get compared to how hard it was to shoot being so small it wasn't worth it to me so I sold it... I've held one of these at a local gun shop and really considering picking one up. That little added thickness in the grip, real sights, and the added capacity makes this gun so much better. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

    Heads up: I think Ruger is having an issue with these:
    I liked my LCP2 so much I couldn’t wait to get the MAX, but I’m now concerned with Ruger’s QC. It has an issue returning to battery reliably. About 1/3 of the time it stops about 1/8th inch short of fully locking up. Then when you try to eject the round, it jams between the breech face and top edge of the barrel. I’ve sent it back for warranty service once, and it’s still not even hand cycling properly. I’m really disappointed in Ruger now, I really was looking forward to it.

      @@davidgaddes2107 It behaved the same way with a variety of ammo. It went back to Ruger once for service & was statistically “better,” but still exhibited multiple failures per magazine. It went back again, and they replaced the pistol. The replacement was flawless in operation. • @fredbright2096
    @fredbright2096 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had the same experience. I am a shooter, spend a lot of time on the range, and I have had a LCP in my pocket ever since they were introduced. An adequate piece for a 380 and when the sierra self defense bullets came on line, i reloaded up a bunch to about 1250 fps and suddenly, 380 became an adequate gun. When the MAX came along, a friend told me to check it out and while visiting my son in Western Virginia, we visited a gun shop, guy in ther had one, we took it outside and tried one out and needless to say, I walked out with a Ruger LP Max. I have worked up some practice loads with W231 powder and some 90 grain lead bullets and I not only find myself carrying it all day, but on the range, I now find that my 1911 and Smith 357's and 44 mags sit on the side while I am burning up 380 ammo. With the 12 round magazine, the grip feels even better and with the better sights, this little thing will blow your mind, so much fun to shoot, and with just over 3 grains of powder and using recovered randge lead, the only cost is primers and I always scrounge up brass when at t he range, so shooting is really cheap. And with the new Underwood Extreme Defense ammo this thing can mess somebody up. If you really want a fun gun, this is the one. And for the price(I got it for under $375) you cannot beat it.
