Every time I watch these I'm always thinking to myself 'nope he's gone too far, that's never going to work, there's just too many pieces in there/too much chaos' and then by the end of the video I'm always loving how the setup looks. You really do have a great eye for it, especially in the short time frame of these videos. The last one that I set up in the same sized exo terra must have taken me around 5 hours of trying out different bits, deciding where things would go, moving them a little, maybe I need to follow the bio dude and just go for it!
Josh, I really think this is a lovely setup and it provides lots of options for the skinks. It's so important that the lizards have places to hide and go to feel comfortable and you really nailed it! Others will look to this video for inspiration for sure.
Your squinty eye success look on your face is the best! 😂🤣 Great tank setup as usual! Since seeing your videos I have been modeling most of my tanks in similar fashion and I LOVe IT!
Awesome to see you’re carrying cuttlebone now as it’s absolutely essential to isopod’s health and helps prevent cannabilism, especially in the Porcellio and armadillidium species. I keep over 20 species of isopods and each and every culture gets crushed cuttlebone that I replenish regularly.
I’m A fellow conservationist and herpetologist from Chicago I love your videos and your knowledge of this area I appreciate your contribution to our community and society as well thank you again. I have blue tongues myself and favor the skinks however I love all my animals.
You’re the man. One thing to improve your scapes would be to finagle moss in the cracks of where the branches/barks meet. It gives it that more natural look.
The Bio Dude Josh Halter I’ve tried to find a yucca tree that looks like this with the wide leaves that hang down but for the life of me I can only find the super spiky ones. Don’t suppose you know the Latin name?
On the lighting and basking, please can you list the information.. I’m setting up the same size of tank. I need help. I have a drainage layer of hydro balls but how many bags of either soil should I use?
did you do 50/50 for the fauna and firma mix? and did you mix them together or layer one on top of the other?? I love these lizards you should definitely do an update on them.
Can you make me a list of the plants/bio products that were in this video that you sell which would be suitable for my emerald tree skinks? I am getting 2 and loved this video. I am creating a bioactive enclosure and want to do it right.
just checked your website out, it's amazingly put together and the level out detail and information is outstanding. I mean the website for exo terra is quite meh in the way it's presented, you would think exo terra being who they are in the reptile industry would have a better made website. There's a lot of people in this industry and there is a varying level of interest, care, quality and passion which you cover all bases. No vlogger personality, information dense content, good quality products and not afraid to promote yourself. Don't need me to tell you but keep at it man.
I don't suppose you could do a common boa constrictor setup? I'm hoping to have all my animals in bioactive enclosures once I can get them. Great video as usual, Josh!
Its reallu nest seeing this all come together. It looks like alot individual piece wise but together in there its like a piece of their home pulled out and put into a box. Its beautoful. Thank you for this. As a future tree skink owner this is inspirational. Now can thry handle just rhe terra firma or do you need to mix it with fauna? Or is fauna best?
You said that for planting trees, you have to make sure you leave enough space for the roots to grow. How do you judge if you have enough space or not?
Mainly making sure that the roots are not smooshed or crowded in the soil itself. So, for example if you plant a tree in your terrarium and you only have just enough soil to cover the root system, chances are that root system will be too complicated for the amount of soil, which will cause root binding and root system death. Mainly, room under and around with excess is the general rule of thumb.
Hi TriRepticus. We have a crested gecko video with a drainage layer. This particular cage utilizes my Terra Firma mixed with Terra Flora, which is designed to not need a drainage layer, but for your gecko I would go with just Terra Fauna which needs a drainage layer.
Hi Guinevere. As long as your biome is healthy and thriving you do not need to add more BioShot. The leaf litter and spag should be added regularly as needed. This is "food" for your biome. Be sure to feed your soil when it looks hungry (a lot less leaf and spag on the surface).
The Bio Dude Josh Halter ho okay. Because leopard geckos aren't supposed to eat the beetles that are transformed from the worms so I was confused. Thank you from replying ! !
Hi, I’ve been looking for a breeder for these guys for a while. Have you ever bred or considered breeding Emerald tree skinks? If so, I’d love to buy one or get on the waiting list.
Are these still available? I didn't see any on the website, and would they need picked up? I noticed everywhere that has the large cages like this refuse to ship them. I'm also a bit scared of the price 🤣 I want this for my crested geckos
Hey Marcus, which items are you talking about? If you have some free shipping items in your cart + non free shipping items you will be charged shipping on the item s that dictate the shipping. But if you have nothing but F/S items in your cart and its still attempting to charge, let me know so I can fix it.
thats the size i have for my frilled dragon also i have the same type of tree.. Glad you mentioned it will die if i dont plant it.. well guess i am planting it asap.. i've kept it on a pot because i wasn't sure it was going to be deep enough soil for it.. but i will just layer it up in the back a bit to make it work well.
You're the Bob Ross of terrariums. He used to paint beautiful scenes...then he throws a tree in front. You think he just ruined it but it ends up working and looking great. Bob Ross Abides!
Hi Thomas. I've done them before. They are time consuming. Beautiful, but with everything else I use in there you wouldn't really notice it anyway. Got for it though. It's fun creating them.
I literally have no reptiles. But i always watch these videos.
Do you have reptiles now?
Lol
He or she is not gonna respond
@@ziggyyy2406 i can try lol

I never thought I’d enjoy watching someone set up their bio tank but I just finished mine today and I totally get it now
Josh, I really think this is a lovely setup and it provides lots of options for the skinks. It's so important that the lizards have places to hide and go to feel comfortable and you really nailed it! Others will look to this video for inspiration for sure.
You always make a tank look great. Out of chaos comes perfection. Thanks Josh.

I thought that isopods only eat there own kind when they are dead.

You’re the man. One thing to improve your scapes would be to finagle moss in the cracks of where the branches/barks meet. It gives it that more natural look.
You’re absolutely right! We often do that when we have enough live moss available. It adds such a nice finishing touch.
Might be one of your most beautiful setups yet
Gorgeous build for gorgeous animals.
This is some zoo/museum quality setup. Dam
Love your videos! It is quite beautiful when you can almost create a perfect ecosystem in your own home!!!!
Very nice enclosure! I never realize that size was as large as it is! It holds alot of stuff!
Love your present ing style Josh very professional and natural commentary thankyou for your efforts
strange cal sincerely appreciate that, thank you.
Another awesome viv. Every time I watch one I want that particular reptile. It’s annoying because I can’t decide 😂
A perfect artwork, even better with MIUS reptile misting system!
Thank you! and a wonderful idea!
Someday I will have some emerald tree skinks of my own - just putting that out into the universe lol
Amazing video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Love this setup so much! Awesome video as well!
This is awesome! First time watching your videos and I already love em! Im looking into getting some of these .
Thank you so much for following!
This looks great! Do you have any other big plant/tree recommendations? Building a tank a little bigger than this for a leachie
Hi Otto. Hibiscus are great. I will be expanding my tree collection with the new warehouse.
The Bio Dude Josh Halter I’ve tried to find a yucca tree that looks like this with the wide leaves that hang down but for the life of me I can only find the super spiky ones. Don’t suppose you know the Latin name?
you deserve more than 13k

The Bio Dude Josh Halter where did you buy this cage from
On the lighting and basking, please can you list the information.. I’m setting up the same size of tank. I need help. I have a drainage layer of hydro balls but how many bags of either soil should I use?

Can we get something on Fired Bellied Toads?
Can you make me a list of the plants/bio products that were in this video that you sell which would be suitable for my emerald tree skinks? I am getting 2 and loved this video. I am creating a bioactive enclosure and want to do it right.
Hey Tyler! please send an email to our care team and they can get you a kit set up for everything you need. Customercare@thebiodude.com

Hi Misty. More videos will be coming soon!
The Bio Dude Josh Halter :) Thank you for replying! I'll be looking forward to them, then!
So Im making an enclosure out of an old display case it's 5feet long by 2 feet wide do I need a drainage layer??
Hey there, if it is for this species in the video then nope!
You totally gotta do an update on this cage, you said you would but it looks like you haven't, it's been 3 years, we need to see it lolol
How many bags of soil did you use
Awesome! Have your ever bred?

The Bio Dude Josh Halter thanks! Love your videos and what you do :)
Dang man, that's just stunningly beautiful! I really want to use your bearded dragon kit once I've built an enclosure.
You should get SerpaDesign to come decorate one of your enclosures using bio active would be really cool to see two TH-cam coinside
Heard good things about that channel. One of these days I will have to check it out!
where can you get this cage i want it soo bad
What is your ratio of males to females in this specific build? Also, how did it go with a lack of drainage layer?
10:35 Too much? What are you and what have you done to the dude?
thank you so much your so amazing thanks for the info
Where do you get all of the cork rounds ?
I am a distributor so myself.
Hi Josh, can you do a 18 x 18x 24 bio active Crested Gecko setup with drainage layer.
TriRepticus I'm sure he's done it already. Drainage layer ( pearlite, hydro balls etc.) Soil layer then moss and leaf litter top.
His soil is made to not need a drainage layer.
Hi TriRepticus. We have a crested gecko video with a drainage layer. This particular cage utilizes my Terra Firma mixed with Terra Flora, which is designed to not need a drainage layer, but for your gecko I would go with just Terra Fauna which needs a drainage layer.
The Bio Dude Josh Halter,
Thank you for all info on this Josh much appreciated.
Patiently waiting on the Brazilian Rainbow Boa video lol
Love the options do you have
Yes please do a phelsuma grandis video!!!
Do you ever have to add more bioshot, leaves, or sphagnum moss?
Hi Guinevere. As long as your biome is healthy and thriving you do not need to add more BioShot. The leaf litter and spag should be added regularly as needed. This is "food" for your biome. Be sure to feed your soil when it looks hungry (a lot less leaf and spag on the surface).
Already at your website
Where do you gelt these skinks? Can you get them at your store?
if theyre in stock yes! give us a call.
Where can you buy this beautiful lizards?
I wish I could find a terrarium like that locally but my PetSmart here in Brownsville TX doesn’t carry anything bigger than 40$
Might need to travel to a HERPS reptile show! herpshow.net/
Pardon me for asking but, the black beetles are supposed to be feeders or clean up crew? Or both?
Hi Clement. I usually use them for clean up crew. Most animals won't eat the beetles.
The Bio Dude Josh Halter ho okay. Because leopard geckos aren't supposed to eat the beetles that are transformed from the worms so I was confused. Thank you from replying ! !
Where did you buy your skinks I can’t seem to find them online
Hi, I’ve been looking for a breeder for these guys for a while. Have you ever bred or considered breeding Emerald tree skinks? If so, I’d love to buy one or get on the waiting list.
Wish they'd ship to the UK
Are these still available? I didn't see any on the website, and would they need picked up? I noticed everywhere that has the large cages like this refuse to ship them. I'm also a bit scared of the price 🤣 I want this for my crested geckos
Would this vivarium be big enough for a tegu
hell no tegu gets 4-5 feet do research
minumum of 8x4x4
Where can I get that enclosure? I’ve been looking for one for a while now
I sell them, but they must go via Freight, which is around $250 for shipping
I know that Green and Brown anoles are the easiest lizard in the world but do you think you could do a set up video for some please.
We hope to do one this upcoming year!
The Bio Dude Josh Halter awesome and thanks for telling me.
Can I do this size set up without a drainage layer as well but for a green tree python?
Hi Destiny. You absolutely can. I recommend using the Terra Firma substrate to achieve your humidity needs as well as have the ability to plant trees.
The Bio Dude Josh Halter Awesome thankyou so much for replying!
Did you stop doing free shipping? Some items you say they have free shipping but when I put it in my cart it charges me
Hey Marcus, which items are you talking about? If you have some free shipping items in your cart + non free shipping items you will be charged shipping on the item s that dictate the shipping. Glad you mentioned it will die if i dont plant it.. well guess i am planting it asap.. i've kept it on a pot because i wasn't sure it was going to be deep enough soil for it.. but i will just layer it up in the back a bit to make it work well.

Nice. Look toward to seeing that project.
You're the Bob Ross of terrariums. He used to paint beautiful scenes...then he throws a tree in front. You think he just ruined it but it ends up working and looking great. Bob Ross Abides!
Bob Ross is the man!
Do you have any interest in doing a custom background? What are your thoughts on those? If so I’d like to see your version of one.
Hi Thomas. I've done them before. They are time consuming. Beautiful, but with everything else I use in there you wouldn't really notice it anyway. Got for it though. It's fun creating them.
Just a suggestion, closed captioning for those of us who can’t hear. Would love to either have a transcript of your vids or cc. Thanks!
Hi Shari. Thank you very much for the suggestion!
if i were a skink i would pay to live in this inclosure
What's the name of these two plants?
Hey Prime Reptile. The one on the left is a yucca and the one on the right is a Ficus tree.
that insect on the moss stick was a queen ant
Do you sell those long cork on your website?

Come on Dude....do something with the audio. Spent a few dollars on a clip-on microphone.
I am learning, do they sync up with my phone?
He just put $1000 of product in a $500 terrarium
if it works, it works. the dude abides.
He’s so cringe
