    I have such a soft spot in my heart for MBKs! The first snake I ever handled was an MBK, such a sweetheart, and inspired my obsession with reptiles. I ended up deciding a ball python was a better choice for me, but I will always love MBKs for introducing me to snakes! Kira is a lovely girl.

    I actually really, really love the revamped idea of a humid hide that ExoTerra has made. I don't have any reptiles any longer (for now), but given how much I've struggled int he past with humid hides this will be one of the first go-to purchases for nearly every reptile I own in the future.

    I absolutely love MBK's, and kingsnakes in general! I was terrified of snakes 6 years ago. I had rented a room at a buddy's house, who went to an expo planning on getting a tarantula (which I'm even more terrified of), but he then came home with this little black noodle, that he named King. And because of his work, he only was home on weekends, so I was left alone all week with this tiny little dude, and it didn't take long for me to be fairly comfortable with him and then held him for the first time, which wasn't that bad and a few months later I was in love! And as your Kira, he is such a sweetheart, never bitten or musked and just loves to chill. 🤩
    And almost 2 years ago, I bought my own snake, a California kingsnake, who I named Duke. 😂
    He was the complete opposite of King, I have no idea how many times he's bitten me or musked on me. 🤭🤣
    But he also have turned into an absolute sweetheart that just loves to hangout with you, he really has been worth all the clean up. 😆😂
    Sadly though, almost all of the Lampropeltis Getula species have become illegal in the EU, so even though I'd love to get another Cali King, I'm not sure if it will ever be possible. 😪

    I love mixing stone desert with other substrates too! i like to mix it with eco ear or a bioactive mix for the bottom and for backgrounds I LOVE how it looks mized with crushed walnut shells! it was a bit too heavy as a background substrate on its own but that goes to show how solid it is after it hardens!

  • @LukeMcGuireoides
    @LukeMcGuireoides ปีที่แล้ว

    I hope your echeveria has proper drainage. Succulents like that don't require a ton of water, but when you do water them, you need to water the well draining soil thoroughly. You can water them frequently as long as the soil dries completely between waterings. Excellent video, as always. I hope I can get a snake one day. I'm obsessed.

    I love your Ciara, and her new upgraded home! She looks very happy! I currently use a gecko laying box in which I stash sphagnum moss in side it and that's where my juvenile corn snake goes to prepare for shedding. I do have to mist it quite frequently because I live in the desert and we struggle with humidity levels. I think this was definitely enough to convince me that when I upgrade my boys tank in a couple of months...he has to have an exo-terra humid hide with the water up top! He loves his water and that will be so much easier than stressing over misting the moss all of the time! Thank you for sharing this video with us and I hope Ciara loves every inch of her special piece of Mexico! 🖤🖤🖤
    I have a question please! I am a newbie snake mom so I'm just learning a lot of things. Will be upgrading that enclosure soon and I was wondering where you got that cork you put on the back wall? Cork bark tiles have gotten to be pretty expensive. Also, is the cork thick enough that I could somehow hang a couple of shelves and it not just completely crumble? I've got several ideas, but I really like the cork and want to give him a couple of basking shelves! Thank you!

    Great video!! Awesome enclosure upgrade!! I really like those new humid hides. QOTD: I would use them for my smaller geckos (vipers, stenos) and also for my elderly leopard gecko who has a real hard time shedding at 21 yrs old 😕. I'll look into them! Thanks 😊

  • @ForestOfEmeralds
    @ForestOfEmeralds ปีที่แล้ว

    *QOTD:* Leopard gecko for sure, I'm actually going to be bringing home a boy that was brought into my work really skinny. My coworker's done a wonderful job rehabbing him and his tail is nice and plump now. He's currently using the big rock cave for a humid hide and I intend to get the same thing for him when I bring him home tomorrow. For the first month or so he'll be on paper towel, but your video gave me a ton of inspiration for when we're ready to go bioactive.

  • @DoorsToHideBehind156
    @DoorsToHideBehind156 ปีที่แล้ว

    Qotd: one of the small ones would work perfect for my rough knob tail gecko. The small one would still be pretty large for him so I'd add moss to make it more cozy. His current hide is one of the black plastic rectangular hides and is only 5x3ish and the size fits him really well.
    The large ones really are perfect for ball Pythons. I'm tempted to buy them. Exoterra has really been killing the game lately with their new products! The desert stone substrate is amazing.

    Hi! I'm hoping to create my own bioactive crested gecko enclosure. I bought a 40 breeder aquarium (it was 1/2 price!), with the "plan" of buying some clear plastic/plexiglass cut to size from Lowe's to make what will be the front panel/ door to the enclosure. I would use silicone/glue to attach, as well as some brackets. So if you haven't realized, my intention is to stand the aquarium up on it's short side so it's a vertical enclosure. Any suggestions or tips would be great!❤ My friend who gave me the crested gecko said to be careful and not to put her into too big of a enclosure?

  • @jimthomas6127

    Very nice! I think I have the only aquatic mbk out there. I have to provide a tub of water in a playpen (water dish just not big enough for her taste). I don't put her in the tub, just in the playpen, and she always finds her way into the water where she completely submerges herself, anchoring to a rock and just staying underwater (head too) for the longest time. Also, regarding the stone desert; if they ingest it and then drink water, will it compact?

I have three BIG boys that have outgrown the big Igloo shaped hide they have in their cage now, but still like to squish into. Since you don't have to fill the top with water, I think it would double as a second food bowl. for them. I will look into getting one for my boys.

      @@Reptiliatus your video changed my mind. I’ve always wanted an mbk but some people say they are bitey. I’m gonna just handle mine a lot and go with an mbk over ball python now because of you! Thank you! Im excited! Going to get the exact same enclosure but set it up a little different! Thanks again! Best TH-camr!!

    Love this video so much! What size enclosure do you recommend for an adult king snake? Same size as this one or slightly bigger? 🫶🏼
