Hi Luke and Naomi we love you both so much.. yes those snacks are my favourites too… specially Egg rolls and Vadai are my favourites.. Always ask prices before buying from those venders and ask help of local customer to check prices for you.. sadly some people charge unfairly from tourists.. always buy stuffs from places where they display prices like the lady who sold snacks for you.. We really appreciate both of you for helping to promote tourism in our country.. Please visit nice hidden places in central Sri Lanka.. Wish you both a very happy new year of 2023 ❤❤❤
Hi folks, A very happy New Year to you both from Ireland where it is wet, cold and damp! Falooda has it's origin in Persia, but the Sri Lankan version (mainly served in Muslim 'hotels', cafes and restaurants in Sri Lanka) is different from the versions available in the Arab countries and India. It is a possibly a concoction of syrups, vanilla essence condensed milk, jelly, ice cream and sabja seeds (or Sri Lankan equivalent). The snacks (known as 'short eats' in Sri Lanka) you are enjoying are extremely popular: fish/vegetable/meat rolls are very mouth watery and the filling is prepared separately; then wrapped in a savory pancake dipped in egg whites/or a batter, followed by bread crumbs on them. They are not deep-fried, instead shallow fried. It is extremely labour-intensive and one needs to know what one is doing! I have tried and failed her in Co Louth!!! Samosa is not typically a Sri Lankan snack (Indian, I assume) but it has gained popularity over the last couple of decades. The fried lentil snack, known as 'va days' are available in different types: isso va days are the ones with a small prawn on them, but the one you brought from that graceful lady is my favourite; it is typically the best version. Very easy to make them (even here in Ireland). Enjoy the Sri Lankan food while you are there. The only place you may get similar snacks is in London where there are Sri Lankan restaurants, places such as South/North Harrow where there are pockets of Sri Lankan communities. Finally, I enjoy watching your presentations; make me feel 'home sick' - thanks for that, Naomi and Luke!!!!!
Most people coming from a wealthy western country will always find places like SL affordable. Those people are used to their own countries NOT being affordable, it's all relative... but once you take into account the currency variance, many countries are so cheap it's an insult to even tell anyone who lives there how cheap it is when they struggle to get by. People with high cashflow and expenses in their own countries have a higher standard of living but are still poor in the context of often being without cash to spare. If you can take your local savings and wealth to a low cost country you can live almost indefinitely on your cash reserves.
Lovely to see you both trying the local food and experiencing Sri Lankan culture. I love the short eats, especially picking them up for breakfast on a long drive during our trips to SL with family when growing up.
Best Faluda and Egg rolls in Galle or be in the entire country is in a restaurant called ‘Sahana’. Pls try if you get a chance. That’s one of the childhood favorites for us. They have one branch almost next door to this green market.
Very lovely to see you ate from an iconic place in Galle, South Ceylon is famous for their rice and curry too. Great work two, appreciate you both going into local places to try food
Hi guys I'm watching your all videos n I'm one of the subscribers by the way that mango man is cunning person Thanks you very much for supporting our country
Naomi and Luke, thank you for sharing such a wonderful and authentic account of your time in my hometown. Best wishes for your future endeavors, and I look forward to seeing more great content like this in the future.
Spicy food speeds up your metabolism: that is why most SL people are lean, and why so many British people are fat ... eat more hot/spicy especially when you are home in winter ! Iove your vlogs and stay as long as you can because it will soon be only precious memories.
When eating short eats (fast foods) try to balance what inside and outside parts in one bite 😂 Otherwise you taste it separately If too spicy remove chilly seed 😅 avoid bit them. they are the hottest part of chilly. Chilly skin < chilly seed
Love your videos, if you want to taste some of the best street food in SL, I would suggest "aluthkade street food" in Colombo, trust me you won't regret
I feel mangoes are little bit over-priced. However, it depend on the type of mangoes you buy. The type you buy should not be very expensive. Next time ask price before you buy. Also, as a general rule, if someone speaks too much or too eager to sell something, don't buy from him. Enjoy your stay.
Wish both of you a very happy new year filled with lots of love, joy, laughter, happiness and most importantly the good health. Reply love to watch your videos and always waiting see a new video day in day out. Seriously now we feel both of you also from Sri Lanka and not from somewhere else. As I feel both of you enjoy with spicy foods from Sri Lanka, I have humble request from both of you behalf of Sri Lankan peoples, if you have any bad impression of our Sri Lankan people, please forgive us, because most of the Sri Lankan treat full people 😊
Nice videos again. Always ask for the price before buy anything if there is no price tag. 4 mangoes and two lemons too expensive. Even for locals they do it.
Price for fruits is really expensive.in those markets they sell these prices to local people as well.if we try with individual vendors a green orange may cost around 40-50rupees and a mango may cost 80-100 rupees.soo seller earned a lot.🤭
@@isurusandaruwan494 there are a lot of places.i couldnt remember the address but there are.these sellers usually buy those fruits for a cheap price from the farmers and sell them by keeping unfair profits.but if you search for lower prices absolutely you can find.i told it with experience.sorry to feel that i m out of mind my friend.😁❤️

Both mad explorers should learn to ask the price of fruits 🍎 which is a simple common sense in any purchase especially fruits has different grades unlike the junk street foods they smacked. The size of mangoes 🥭 matters as well. Nevertheless as price. In general Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 Fruits are organic hence it is worth to pay. Probably 2 Euro 💶 seems nominal for locals. Naomi took only two oranges but the man charged additional 1 euro. Bargaining is very common in vegetable 🥗 market. Luke is wise and he did at candy while purchasing blue sarong the long skirts for Naomi. Luke should take over finance department and transfer Naomi to guest relation department 😂 where she can make everyone smile. 😂
