Kudos Tony! As much as I admire Mark's attention to detail, and knowledge of the restorations that Graveyard Cars does! You are the utmost authority in regard to Mopar parts! 👍

I was told back in late 69 through 70 or so there were many Mopars assembled with wrong engines etc because of labor problems caused by union strikes. The assembly lines were manned by rookies who just stuffed what ever was handy to finish the job. I haven't seen examples but many sources have told me this.

I had a Great Aunt who was married to a rich man. They got his and hers cars every few years. Late '60s, her new Imperial overheated a lot. Took it to the dealership for service. The story as told to me by the owner was that they removed wax paper and sludgy goo from water passages in the block. Most likely, it was somebody's sandwich from the canteen truck.

I have family members who worked at GM in Atlanta who always told me (everyone in the family) never buy a car stamped as being made on Monday. People were hung over, out sick and someone doing their job, and just a bad attitude and doing bad work. Try to buy one made on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday...they were the best made from any plant. So maybe this Motor was stamped on Monday...guy hung over or still loaded.

Occasionally you see a number or letter misapplied but it's easily identifiable as a mistake. The most notable one I can remember is a 1970 383 Roadrunner being stamped as having a 340 engine on the fender tag. That whole Superbee stamped GTX block brings everything to a whole new level!

Love that Duster, my '70 340 is long gone, but wish it could be reconstructed, but could never afford a build like Graveyard does :-(

I would love to know the price they charged the guy for this Duster. Had it 3 years...wonder if they give a discount for each year it takes to finish the car. Do you know how many cars you can build in 3 years?

Any car with a halfway decent body to be restored like they do on this show is probably real close to 6 figures. The super exotic like the hemi Superbirds I wouldn't be surprised to see double that if they are in rough shape.

    • @bbb462cid

You don't seem to quite understand Ray. Firstly, a shop like this is not an assembly lne at a factory. Secondly, they aren't building just any car, and thirdly, this type of shop has to deal with not only their own schedules but that of their suppliers and vendors. I spent 300 hours block sanding a classic car I owned. That's just block sanding. Making a repro trunk lid straight, to meet the bodylines correctly, was 40 hours. The block and crank were at the machine shop for two months. Sourcing and buying just one hard to find part was two weeks, The correct original hood tril was over a year. I was on a multi- year waiting list for the NOS radiator core support, new in box. Finding the dual snorkel air cleaner was mere couple of months. I never did find original hood scoop chrome grilles. I had to wait until they were reproduced. The right steering wheel took a year. Having the front seats re-upholstered meant waiting a couple months for the shop doing it to have an opening for the job, and then it took four weeks. I had to source the underhood ecals, NOS fender badges, new rocker ttrim, three of the four wheel opening moldings were available NOS. Took me half a year to find the fourth. It's not like building a 2015 Nissan Sentra at a plant that builds 2015 Sentras, and they don't sit around and wait while parts are on order. When they have no parts to build with, they stop work on that car and do work on one they can work on.
