I was in the USA, in the mid-west, for a month in August for work. During the day I was meeting well-paid medical professionals who were very happy with their lives. Every time I got an Uber somewhere or spoke to someone working an average job I ended up in a conversation about working multiple jobs, being in debt or otherwise struggling to survive.
The country is completely divided by class, but as ever the Right have convinced people that the real issue is race/immigration - and the Left, who abandoned left-wing economics in the 90s, have refused to remind people that your wallet is a more important indicator of your quality of life than your gender, sexual preference, skin colour or identity.
Edit: It will be fascinating to watch Trump gaslight America now into believing the economy is suddenly wonderful for them.

With all this analysis of the losing side I think we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that America (putting it nicely) had two bad, flawed candidates who ran pretty horrifically bad campaigns. But the problem is that no matter how bad the candidates are one of them has to win. We had a recent election in the UK with basically two possible winners but they were a mixture of corrupt, incompetent, boring, uninspiring and bereft of genuine ideas.
So yeah, there's clearly massive blame on the Democrats and this video sums it up pretty beautifully. If Biden/Harris had governed better in some ways (and it's pretty hard to blame them for the cost of living increases) then she'd probably have won. But if it was perceived that their record wasn't good then you look to a fresh start. They'd still be a Democrat but at least a different Democrat. No idea who that could have been, I've always been very impressed with Pete Buttigieg but who knows.
I very much doubt Trump will do much beyond make most people's lives worse and give tax cuts to the rich. And unless he can change the constitution he's not running in 2028. So it's all up for grabs again. Hopefully by then Trump will be in prison as well although he'll probably manage to pardon himself.
