  • Emirates B777-300ER A6-ENE suffered a failure of its portside GE90 turbofan engine at Glasgow Airport, Scotland.
Emirates dispatched their GE90 technical crew to Glasgow to decant the B777-300ER of the faulty GE90 on Friday 22nd June 2018.
They were in luck as it was the peak of Scottish summer which afforded them 18 hours of daylight and unusually there was no rain!
On Friday night, the crew, assisted by a Leggat mobile crane began to remove the faulty GE90 ahead of the arrival of the new GE90 from Dubai.
As Glasgow Airport does not have the equipment required to unload a GE90 from the belly of the Cargo B777F, the plane was routed to Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, some 35 miles south of Glasgow Airport.
On Saturday 23rd June 2018 the B777F arrived from Dubai with the new GE90 and assembly kit, which was unloaded in jig time. This was then transported up the M77 to Glasgow Airport.
After catching the B777F arrive and depart Prestwick Airport, I headed to Glasgow to see what the Emirates crew were up to. There was no sign of them as they had completed the faulty engine removal and were catching up on some well earned rest.
On Sunday 24th June 2018 I was heading to Ben Lui for a spot of munro bagging. I decided to stop off at Glasgow Airport enroute and I was amazed that the Emirates Crew has the new GE90 almost installed!
    GREAT JOB Guys!!
A6-ENE did a few engine runs and then headed back off to Dubai where it would be re-certified to fly with passengers.

Thanks HolyLochlad, I love them too. Should have been going to DXB on Tuesday night on the B777-300ER myself, alas after they cancelled it they have not refunded me in full.
