On some of the other versions of this ballet on youtube, the female dancers (some of the greats) could barely keep up with this tempo. Darci makes it look like she has all the time in the world, without ever seeming rushed!
Wonderful performance! Your notes at the beginning add so much to the viewing! I would never have noticed Darci's broken pointe shoe. She is a beautiful, classical dancer, so at ease with excellent technique and elegance. And I had never seen Damian perform before. He was so good- strong tours, pirouettes, and jumps, the complete package!
Thank you for making this performance happen, and for posting it here, with worthwhile notes. First time I saw this pas de deux was at NYCB, danced by Gelsey K. And Helgi T., and it blew my mind. I adore Damian W., and both dancers here are marvelous.
the dress is amazing! it floats! I think this is the best I've ever seen someone perform the female variation, on video at least. And they're both so incredibly fast!
They are divine! I love how Darci doesn't linger in the kneeling positions in the beginning. Too many ballerinas use that pause in the music to kill time and it becomes really twee.
So different from how I remember Darci dancing this piece. I remember her being more playful and almost teasing ...here she is more precise/classical/......Thanks so much for all your posts! So interesting....such important history and choreography.
absolutely fascinating to see this so close to the 1962 performance you posted earlier this week and see how different dancers do the same dance - how each makes it their own.
What a ballet! Genius choreography.

And Darci was Balanchine's last ballerina

I would have loved so much to see her dance live. But I was born in 1990 and far from New York.

Tiler Peck looks like she's been trained by Darci (in other words, a page out of this book...)
Thank you for uploading this! Damian Woetzel is stunning!

Really beautiful dancers.
This is THE MOST GORGEOUS BALLET!!!
Darci is soooo wonderful!!
If I had not read that her pointe shoe went dead I would have not even noticed. She does not loose a beat. Marvelous
Darci perfect combination of athlete and artist. Damien no slouch either
