It’s amazing how much Ingenious Hunter has become a star rune since so many items have a cooldown now it comes in handy a lot more
It's about to get giga nerfed
As a support / enchanter main i have been spamming it since last season. Even on Bard I use it as my main setup always over the movement speed because the combo solari + redemption with 60 sec cd was just ridiculous. Plus, you get haste on trinkets and with ghost ward is just insane
it was alwayd hidden op imo. i have been spamming it especially on support since its release

One of the more common Tank builds atm is Bamis into Eclipse Fimbul with Ingenius. Even without any synergies Bamis keeps proccing Eclipse off CD and most tanks have some ability to do Fimbul shields and can rotate both. Then you usually go these two or Kaenic. The shield tank build is so fun lol. Baus has been doing it on Jarvan as of recently and Petu on Shen (obviously)
It’s good but Serpents Fang will literally destroy this build if their ADC/Assasin/Bruiser isn’t trolling. Any on hit champ can realistically build that second and any crit champ can slot it in for utility instead of IE and build IE at 4th slot.

One note about the ult that you got wrong is that they removed crowd control immunity (sadly) so now voli is only unstoppable.

@@trzcinekpl3776In this context it means that no cc stops voli's ult once he has casted it but any cc affecting him during the animation persists after he lands. If he is hit by a Morgana binding during his jump he will be rooted for the remainder of the root duration once he lands.

I literally faced this yesterday. I was irelia top, went 0/4 in lane, did 100k damage by the end of the game. Volibear did 80k, tanked 700k, and healed 80k. Nice.

Irelia main here. Same story 3 games in a row. I have PTSD and perma ban Voli now.
Don't fight him and just focus on cs. Once you get bortk it's your turn to shit on him. But you have to dash in for damage and then dash out to wait out his second bite. I beat this build with ksante. However, later when he's full build you can't side vs him. So the sooner the game ends the better lol

Tbh I saw many voli using this but they don't win games. The point is they all win top lane, but if team losing they don't scale hard enough and get outscalled by enemy top laner. I saw a gwen 0 9 winning vs voli just cause we stalled game so what I want to say is that this is very good in very high elo where people don't troll their lead.
Voli falls off late no matter what you build, its more of a voli problem than the build
Of course man finnaly someone figured out that tank builds are team reliant and better for high elo, in low elo you want something to literally 1v9 and end the game fast

I've been running a similar setup on Maokai for a while. With the amount of shields provided by this build on Volibear, not taking "Shield bash" is almost criminal. Forget about the damage it provides, the defensive stats are amazing.
Im voli main, i play grasp voli since last season and i think its the best rune for him, but i use shield bash to bully in lane

How did they miss both jaksho and sterak’s gage? Sterak’s gives health ratio shield at lower health so it helps wait for cool-downs like zhonya’s but also gives health stats and tenacity. Jaksho is also super strong in extended fights as it gives health, armor and mr

Just tried it in Urf where the heals and shields are significantly reduced. I was able to 1v5 for 2 minutes straight vs tahm, galio, alistar ashe and nunu while being perma cc and my life wasn't going below 75% 🤣
Instead of Zhonias it's vital you go Experimental Hexplate since it cuts half your ult cd which helps alot when the enemy is running away or flash since you will be running ghost. Steraks is also a good choice since it stacks with hp giving you a fat 3-4k shield when ur below 50% hp if they all focus you down, ensuring you wont' die in any way
it's strong until the enemy adc buys botrk with domniks and starts melting you melts you down
The problem with these goofy ahh builds is the defense “in korea” and listing some random famous player messing around with it so you can’t bad mouthed it. They also never mention how situational a lot of these builds are. I’m sure Koreans are abusing whatever random shii and still winning, and only using it situationally.
I already played a volibear with this build. They did some damage, but not a lot, not even really enough to hurt squishies that hard. They just tank a lot of damage but in this current meta damage ALWAYS outscales any tankability and eventually you just get shredded to death. Not to mention you have zero agency for shit BECAUSE you can’t really kill anyone. This is not ideal for the average solo q player. You don’t carry games as a tank, you carry games as a carry.

On paper it sounds amazing, but its rly not that good imo from trying it a bunch on all sorts of tanks(espec for top lane) and here why:
1: You skip important items, for example no bamis, and espec for voli no Gauntlet, which is his best item
2: this means that yes you become more unkillable, but you lack xrazy dmg and utility and are just pretty useless imo, sure melee melee chmaps cant 1vs1 you but you still can get kitet and get rekt
3: You lose even more dmg by going red tree instead of yellow tree 2
4: anti is a mist buy already agaiinst voli, making it even better by going this build
Feel free to try, it looks fun in these clips and voli is a strong laner, always has been but without a good team with good dmg this is not optimal imo, but quite fun 😊

You could rush this and then finish Fimbulwinter
Small note from a voli main: you will dealt alot less dmg than normal if you build this, so your kill potential is much lower. You are tanky, but you shouldn't take 1v1 in splitpush and should take short trade instead, you don't have the dmg to finish them off and if you fight for too long (which will happen alot because of how much sustain you have) enemies will come and gangbang you. Or course you are a tank now and should look for more team fight than splitpush, Hulk Breaker is also a great 5 or 6 item if you ever feel you need more damage and don't affraid of losing defensive stat.
Slap in divine spear if some how feel the healing is not enough but it not needed for this build
I would also consider Jak'Sho as a 4th-5th item. If you can survive longer than 5 seconds, you get a big multiplier to your resistances, which amplifies the effective health of your heals/shields.
If you're going to build Abyssal Mask just for the amplified healing from Unending Despair (and not the MR shred for your teammates), you should probably get Jak'Sho instead.
I usually go heartsteel and nashor's tooth with volibear. He becomes a backline destroyer, since he can run very fast and ult onto enemies, whilst still doing damage because of nashor's tooth

I think Despair is a bad item that is made "ok" with ingenious hunter and this will end up with the nerfed rune and 2 bad items because you cant buff the items without changing the rune first.

ye i mean any anti heal item also works but he does also gets the 2 shields besides you can just tell your team to focus the person with ignite or just buy jak'sho and walk out (with ult + q run its more then doable) and now tada u have a fully stacked jak'sho and they no longer have ignite
@lamintys1224 those shield are temporary and anti shield also exists so to counter this dmg over time + anti heal + anti shield are works great against him or more easier way just stun him and buy time until his shield are out
The build is doing its job then, making people focus a build for it so they can't build for other situations. Something having a counter is sometimes the purpose of a build. (Saying this in as nice a way as possible just to be clear. Text is hard to show intent sometimes.)
maybe its good for high elo but it cant carry , if enemy bot smurfs or they have tank killers ur useless. i went 10/0 but cant carry
works better if you can go early game 1 offensive item like rift/trinity/ the heal crit item and then build upon that so you can farm early and have lethality instead of playing for team every time

When the season started I tried this build a couple of times but couldn't find success, yeah you heal a lot but don't have enough damage to kill your opponent, does anybody feel this way? Maybe component maxing health before completing the items?
You don't deal damage very quickly but you can outlast a lot of people. That said, this is not really a sidelaning 1v1 build, this is a full on teamfighter. Thats where mega tankiness is most valuable, and that is where you need to be in order to get the full heal from Unending Despair.
If you want to run a build like this but have more 1v1 power, build sudnered sky or eclipse first. Hell, build both if you want. Both give you damage but also a heal from sudnered sky and a shield from eclipse, and both effects get reduced by Ingenious Hunter too. Then you can get Unending Despair and the other tank stuff later, although this build path makes it a bit awkward to build Fimbulwinter.
If you run this version you get more damage and it is easier to snowball a lead in lane since you kill faster and can take towers faster, but you never become quite the same kind of gigatank. Still a solid build too IMO.
