LoL that's debatable with the 98 custom. I have yet to see one that was destroyed by rough playing. I've heard of people taking a hard fall with their a5 and breaking the grip frame or cyclone feeder.
3 weeks ago I played paintball and my friends A-5 broke in half where the drive the stock connects in the back. My tippmann 98 custom (Bravo One Elite) has never failed and can take whatever beating is thrown at it. Great gun
I'm sorry but, this guy actually works in a paintball shop but, seems to know next to nothing about the markers. The guy holding to camera asks some good questions (ones I was wondering myself to be honest) and the other guy either studders or blows the question off. Watching him shoot a sign isn't really helpful with accurate insight and info about the markers. I try not to post negative comments but, this just isn't a very good comparison/review.
To take out the last few paintballs, the clear part above the breach can be removed with the press of a button and you can simply pour the paint out the front.
It's not a fake magazine you crono it on the bottom and it connects to the macro line. There are parts inside that drop in there. But i suppose u could hold it as some sort of grip
I run a dfender and the problem of pushing it into the breach without enough paint. I ran it for my first day and loved it. I got used to it instantly, so it is not to much of a problem
Not sure if this is a production version but there should be a winding wheel to feed paint into the raider before shooting. The clear cover also lifts off to clear any remaining balls out of the tube.
The Raider is pretty neat. It looks bulky with a tank installed but i bet with a remote line it would be pretty maneuverable. No big hopper on top of the gun in theory means a smaller target. If that mechanical ratcheting loader turns out to be reliable, i think they have something cool here.
You guys really need to stop with this accuracy bs. 90% of accuracy comes from paint. The other 10% is fps consistency. Both markers are capable of +/- 5 fps so accuracy will be identical. The a5 won't be as consistent out of the box, but all you need is a decent reg and polished internals
Ashraven PB after buying numerous barrells and playing a little while I have realized that any gun can be pretty similar in accuracy as long as your equipment is clean and you buy premium paint.
Yep, you're right. Also, as soon as he had a barrel break, he might as well have stopped to swab it. Any further shots are tainted by the paint in the barrel, its really not fair to compare.
qmto you shoot a lot of markers that a lot of people hate or don’t think are accurate. So I’d take your word for it lol. Ps love your vids, nice seeing underdog markers.
I had an A5 and all I needed was better paint and it was as accurate as my friends bob long, just had more kick and can’t walk the trigger. Other than that identical accuracy.
Team Insanity Paintball they're terribly biased and have god awful attitudes lol... also if anything all they're doing is putting taboo around the sport of paintball by showing jockey dickheadish pretentious people like themselves in thumbnails with a fucking red arrow pointing saying "NO MASK" one of the first fucking rules period if you shoot a marker is safety comes FIRST! And for being a TH-cam channel that should set a moral standard, they should of held that into account, but didn't because they actually have a shit moral standard. Had no idea he was at NXL Chicago while I was there. Glad I didn't as well, would of put a damper on my amazing weekend at the event.
I have lots of guns, my first gen Model 98 is still my woods n rec ball go to. I love Tippmann, they're good at what they do. Disappointed about the non acceptance of the C3 propane pump. I think with some engineering rework the Raider could become something amazing for the scenario guys or someone wanting a future military style marker. Make it more modular and openable throughout the feed. Acceptable of all aftermarket barrels etc. Tippmann may be really on a branching path to paintball design yet again. Anyone remember the old Tippmann SMG 60-68? From 1986 when everyone else was making crude pumps? The A5 is also a no-brainer gun to have in your collection. If memory servese correct, that cyclone feed started on the Tippmann Factory F/A years back, still amazing.
I have a tippmann a5 still one of my most favorite guns to shoot I added a cyclone feeder upgrade and a response trigger so it shoots real nice just eats tons of paint fast
Damn right dude, I forget what year I got the 2 of mine, it was way back then too, but it is an AMAZING gun still and I hate they change the flatline barrel
@@electrician1974 never ran a flatline on mine, I'm still ruining factory internals in it, I've considered upgrades but at this point why mess with perfection
I hope you guys are still doing reviews during the Covid thing. Did you guys ever compare the First Strike T15 vs Valken M17 in performance constancy on the chrono? Compare some mag fed markers with first strike balls and regular balls. Even some Max velocity Chrono test to see how high their velocity goes before it chops balls, just for fun. If it holds at high velocities, you could smash things with rubber balls. high velocity tests show toughness, and people love that stuff. lol
@@orcabeast8006 I brought one very recently of ebay and it's arriving pretty soon, I'll update you. Though it is a rental version (all I could find) it shouldn't be much different
I didn't know this existed until now... I want to through up in my mouth.... I refuse to think this came from the same minds of the Tipx, TCR and TMC... What happened to Tippmann?
I bought a yellow grip version. I couldn't get one with black grips now I wish I could find grips online for it. Probably impossible. Gun shoot really well.
Would be cool if you do an efficiency test on a A5, so we know typically how much pods it can shoot. No one has a video on that, I know its a old ass gun but it is still being purchased up to this day.
I'd assume the A5. I'm not super familiar with the internals of the Raider, but I know the Cyclone Feed System on the A5 and 98C both use the dispelled air from each shot to operate the hopper. Basically it doesn't make it waste any more air. I've only found one teardown video of the Raider. It was in French, and I'm a bit rusty, but from what I can tell, the Raider uses the physical bolt blowback motion to operate the integrated hopper. Which is good, because I initially thought it would split the air from the bolt to operate both, and could be terribly inefficient. So it looks like the efficiency should come down to how the bolt system operates. Seeing as how the Raider seems to utilize the same bolt system as the Ion, I'd say it's not TERRIBLE, but not as good as the A5.
I've had a Tippmann A5 since about 2002 and I see no reason to "upgrade." I have both a flatline barrel and a little 6" barrel. I tend to favor the 6" barrel because that little barrel is way more accurate than it should be at that size. I find it also plays nicer with the response trigger than the flatline.
All I care about is efficiency. All other variables can be taken care of externally. If I'm at a big game, then I may use one of these scenario type markers, but If I then have to walk miles because I ran out of air after 800 shots then that's no good to me. I carry 1400 on average out onto the field, so if this new raider can do that on a fill, then I'm a happy bunny. I love the simple mech A5 design, but that thing was a gas hog back in about 2004 when I first looked at one.
In the long run, a gun that is easier on paint will be more accurate, due to fewer barrel breaks. I really like having a gun that is easy on paint, especially in the winter! Accuracy when clean should be similar assuming same bore size and same paint, except maybe for long shots due to velocity range, and of course "kick". If there is a built-in reg on the Raider it will have tighter velocity range than the A5 (you get what the tank outputs essentially). I wonder if the Raider can use CO2. While CO2 will be worse on accuracy (coating barrel with moisture) and higher velocity range, it is the best/only option in some rural areas. Seems like the Raider has the A5 beat for accuracy EXCEPT that I am used to having the tank on my shoulder, and I am used to aiming a certain way (I guess that wouldn't be an issue for a newer player).
From what I saw messing around with my buddies Raider it's still a cyclone feed system in the hopper it's just placed differently, I imagine it would still turn into a blender if you hit a bump hard enough.
Accuracy’s compromised as you broke a ball in the A5 and yes, with the defender if your paint gets low it will not feed and paint gets trapped in the raceway but they designed a quick strip top section that allows you to access this area to remove the paint after a day of play.
I'm not sure which one was made before the other because nobody knows a lot about both of them but I think the raider was a prototype or a cheaper alt for the defender because g.i. owns tippmann and empire, and also the raiders translucent cover can also be removed without tools for cleaning like the dfender (watched a disassembly video)
It's really interesting to see a pre-production Raider shooting, so thanks for the video, but this is kind of a useless comparison. Accuracy between guns doesn't mean much, ESPECIALLY when you're not chronographing each shot (or at all?), and while I wouldn't be surprised if the Raider has some feeding troubles, the fact that he kept short-stroking the trigger is the more immediate problem. Since the Raider's cyclone is actuated by the tip of the bolt sail, short-stroking it would result in the cyclone skipping an actuation on that cycle.
He said the raider was more accurate. He shot both guns...so I believe him. BUT....throw on the best barrel u can possibly find......there ya go. Bodda~BOOM....BODDA~BING. Now your tippmann A5 has the accuracy/durability of a $1,000 paint marker
my complaint is that the build in hopper stock is too high. if you have ever had a stock on a paintball gun you would know what I mean. because you have to wear a mask to play paintball you cant get your eye close to the barrel line. the farther your face eye is from the barrel the harder it is to aim. my Ideal paintball gun what be an A5 with a Qpod or an electric box mag that goes straight down like on a real gun. it would remove the hopper from the top that blocks vision and can get hit.

The tippmann raider just seems like a shittier smaller version of the Defender... doesn't make sense to me why they would make the hopper air assisted when the Defender is electronically fed and doesn't have the feed issues the Raider does. The reason they made hoppers air assisted back in the day is because electronic hoppers weren't up to par. There's no reason not to choose electric over air these days, air assist just eats air and takes you off the field more often.
Raider being unable to empty the hopper completely is basically fail engineering. Pretty much makes the Raider unusable. Meanwhile the A-5 is still a beast and is way less expensive.
