    I am a homeowner with a day job who does not do anything construction related for a living. That being said I am working on framing out my basement and Bought this th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt gun. I have done a few walls already, have probably shot a couple hundred nails through this thing and have yet to have a misfire. It works awesome, good depth on every nail if you have your compressor set right. My literal only complaint is that it is a bit heavy and my arm can get a little tired especially whrn I am nailing at odd angles. That being said I am super happy with it and would buy it again. Hoping the old girl allows me to get my whole basement finished out!

    I cant understand why you guys complain about how fast or how slow theses nailers shoot. When you are doing woodwork, you are not firing a lot of nails into your workpiece as fast as possible. It’s about precision and quality, and is it reliable when you use it like it should be used.

    Not much you can do about the speed of it, given the nature of how it works. Most battery operated nailers are going to be the same, or very similar, speed. If you want fast cordless, go with a Paslode gas powered one, but then you'll need more than just a battery. I think there might be a DeWalt model that's pure battery and not too slow, but it's also a larger nail than 18ga if I remember correctly. Also keep in mind that even with pneumatic, you can out race the compressor, if it's a small compressor. More of an issue with a framing nailer than finish nailer, but you keep going along banging in nails and all of a sudden you realize they're going in progressively shallower lol
    I've had good luck with my Ryobi, haven't had enough dry fires to take note of it. Only 1 jam up so far that I remember. The reason I got it was similar to you, already had a bunch of the batteries. Though I don't have an air compressor in my shop, so don't have the pneumatic option anyway

    • @MosquitoMade
      @MosquitoMade 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wrong, looks like DeWalt offers a number of different gauge cordless nailers, not just 15ga like I thought

      Mosquito aka Chris we started out with the Hitachi/metabo framing gun. “Game changer” for sure. Love that it last all day long, no compressor of course, and super tough. States it can do 450 16d nails on a single charge. It has taken tumbles of the top of a 6’ ladder twice so far and still fires like a champ. Love it.

    I have this same model. I have no issues with the dry fires on 1 1/4” Brad nails. @gearhead Daily - glad u got it resolved. Guess it needs to be broken in a bit to work properly. Lol. Believe also it has to do with the depth adjustments. I was dry firing it 100% of the time until I dialed the adjustment. 100% problems solved after tinkering with that. No more dry fires afterwards, lol

  • @jeroenthijs7588
    @jeroenthijs7588 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You shoot the nails too deep into the material, causing the firing pin to get stuck in the wood.
    As a result, the firing pin does not return far enough, resulting in no nail being taken on the next shot.This usually occurs when using short nails in soft material. solution; shorten the firing pin at the front by 1mm.
    maintenance required after 1 year. Dust will make the firing pin stiffer and then you will also get many more misses.
    You can not change the speed.if you had to know how the machine works you would understand why it cannot operate at the same speed as a pneumatic device. This device is also designed to finish (exactly) and not to build structures at a high speed) I hope helped you with this.

    There are a few places that Makita is failing right now (March 2021): their nailers are heavy across the board compared to MIlwaukee (just came back from the HD Pro store and the 18ga brad nailer was shown as 9+ pounds vs the Milwaukee at 6+ pounds if I recall), their guns are also slower; they still don't offer a cordless framing nailer; they have ZERO jobsite table saw offerings (cordless or otherwise) to compete with DeWalt and Milwaukee (as in: the 2705x1 is actually listed as discontinued with no replacement). Also, their miter saws either have a laser or don't, and none of them offer a shadow light as far as I know.
    No idea what their strategy is supposed to be. On top of all of this they've also released the 40v system so they can further lose focus on serving the "pro" market.

    So I have the 32g pin nailer... Had multiple jamming issues. Sent it to a repair shop for warranty work. Still jammed.... can't have a jam in a nice painted piece of custom cabinet trim. Then was taking a look at description on Amazon, and saw that the 23g leaves 1.25" pins out of the description. So I changed to a 1" and no jam.... All other sizes work perfectly except the 1.25 which seems awfully weird to leave that size out.
    I'd try a different nail brand and size and see if the problem persists. Shouldn't have to do that, but of you're stuck like I was needed to sort it out, and the repair shop did everything Makita told them too... It was the nails in the end

    Interesting review. Not sure speed is an issue with a finishing nailer, I dont want to go fast when working with prime material. Speed is only an issue when I am rough framing. Ive had dry fire issues when going to fast, also I lube the loading area with a silicone spray and that seems to do the trick. Cordless are ok but no match for air.

    Dry firing on 18ga brad nailers is often due to the brand of brads you're using--there are minor differences in the shape of brads. Some nailers are really picky about which brads they want to shoot. Have had compatibility issues even with pneumatics in the past.

    It has to compress air to shoot the nail, thus the motor does that once each time you fire a nail. Your air compressor is doing it constantly (does one really have to explain this?)
    The misfire issue is relevant however. Proper nails? Try lubricating nail slide and ram? That could be the design flaw not the speed it fires (however Makita should be using brushless motors for now torque and thus speed).

Well today i ended up with this tool on my bench customer said it had a nail jamb. Well i opened up this tool and did not see a actual jamb. What i did see is the piston driver in the down position but did not retract back. Tool would not fire until i push piston back in the up position. Tool now fires just fine but im worried it will come back with an actual jamb or piston in the down position with no actual jamb. I agree this tool feels and sounds crappy! I've had Makita since they first came out with the black and white compact lithium ion drills. I did love those even though I had issues with a couple of them (I had two of each the drill driver and the impact Plus a drill driver that fell off the ladder and broke) where the electronic brake messed up or went out. Those were some of the smallest drills and real powerful for their size when they came out. Recently I upgraded to the black and green brushless models,, I think the electronic brain box limits power because they struggles with hole saws over about 2 in or paddle bits above about an inch. They will just completely stop, I'm not real happy with that. I have the grinder and the oscillating tool and both of those are about as big around as a Pringles can and not the best granatically but pretty good other than that. The nailer you are showing just looks unwieldy and I was thinking about getting one but after reading reviews on this and also the cordless jigsaw I was wanting to get (that thing has a lever to change the blade that is made out of polycarbonate or some other clear plastic! Plus it's pretty bulky as well) I also have the sawzall and the smaller circular saw and a lot of batteries but I'm starting to think maybe I should have went with a different manufacturer when I started changing over from the black and white drills

    How much time does it take to drag out a an air compressor, air hose, plug in your nailer, plug in your compressor possibly to an extension cord and then put all that shit up? I would rather slow down a little than have to go thru all that. Not to mention worry about tripping over a cord and or possibly have it cut. If speed is your thing stick with a pneumatic. I bet you I in most cases will save more time with a slow cordless nailer.

    How’s it going buddy? So I know why you have air/miss fires. Unfortunately you have to add oil to the pin that shoots out the nails. Some how it collects dust and the pin gets stuck half way and the nails in the chamber never surpass to the top due to the pin getting stuck. I used to have the same issue until I took it apart and notice all the wet dust in my nailer. I can Lamaist guarantee you this will fix the misfire issue. Let me know if you fix this. Thank you. BTW after I oiled the pin I have forgotten about the misfires!

      Gearhead Daily yeah these tools have been getting bad reviews for a long time which causes these tools to sit on shelves for a long time. You’ll have to remove the top cover that protects pin. You’ll need to remove three torx screws. Much easier to oil after that. I love this tool now that I figured her out but I felt your pain I felt the frustration until I said no more and took matters into my own hands lol.

    Here’s something to try
    Have you tried, instead of putting the row of nails all the way to the bottom, look for a groove in the tray where they rest more in the middle. I’ve had that issue even with the gen 2 milwalkee’s with dry firing until i started loading them in such manner. I think whats going on with dry fires is that they keep getting hung up on the sharp end of the nail and thereby not advancing as they should..but not sure, never had a the makita so i have no idea what the issue is there…you could send it to me and i’d try it out 😀

    • @lilchirp4846
      @lilchirp4846 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here’s something you could start to appreciate more on them tho,
      Im probably not 100% up to date but this is from reviews i’ve seen on the makita. And i also noticed that on this clip. They leave behind a nice small clean hole on your work where as the ones we’ve been using like the senco and milwalkees, they have a pretty messy, huge hole which you pretty much have to fill up with wood putty after your done..

  • @rts3613

    The guns have to get the energy to drive a nail from somewhere, compressed air, fuel fired or a flywheel like this gun. The flywheel has to wind up to fire, that's the delay. I love my Paslode guns, but the gas cartridges are not cheap and there is a butane smell to the exhaust. I still have pneumatic guns, but hate lugging a compressor and air hose around. Each has its fault, so pick your poison. Speed is not as big an issue for finish work as is nail placement. I never bump fire finish nailers.That's different for framing, fences/siding and roofing, where speed is needed.

      Its weird because I've always had good luck with Makita. Hell, even AvE sorta endorsed them. So maybe this is just a shitty tool and I'm using it correctly.

      Makita makes the rare turd, their 18v right angle impact is universally hated by every review I've seen

    But seriously dude...... Do you like the nailer or not? I can’t tell by your review. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

      You know what's funny? Immediately after I threw it around a bit it started working perfectly... maybe it likes the abuse.

    Yeah my Makita nailer is junk, dry fires constantly, shoots nails in half way or less then leaves some not quite in all the way- it just makes a mess of finishing work-

      Yep, yet some how i'm getting dragged and ratio'd here for telling the truth.

    I’m makita all the way. The nailers are a let down. Hikoki make the best battery nailer or Metabo hpt. Depending where you live. I’m all so like you makita invested, the price of the makita here you could buy another model with battery anyway.

    • @GearheadDaily
      @GearheadDaily  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a tough deal, i'd rather stick with one batter/brand.

    I bought mine when it first came out it was good for a while now it dry fires like a mother-F and it’s so annoying cause you gotta patch up all the damn extra holes

    • @GearheadDaily
      @GearheadDaily  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh thank god I wasn't the only one! I kept seeing these reviews on YT and they didn't have a single dry fire, i thought I was losing my mind.

      Gearhead Daily I honestly think it’s the spring that pushes them up against the pin it must be weak Spring like maybe some how replacing it... I’m gonna mess with mine sense I don’t care what happens to it cause I hate the fact that it dry fires 7 out of 10 times lol

    Buy DeWalt and get a battery adapter or print it self in 3d. Than u can stay on Makita batterys.

    I'm totally a Makita guy as well. #teamteal. But for my framing nailer and Brad nailer I got into metabo HPT cordless nailers. I plan to only use metabo line for nailers. Their nailer air drive system is amazing, check it out! But definitely all my other tools will not be green lol

    • @GearheadDaily
      @GearheadDaily  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard good things about the Metabo nailers, but i agree... #teamteal is the way to go otherwise for virtually every other tool.

      @@GearheadDaily yeah and I just saw a video with Makita patents for future tools. And looks like we might see a Teal Framing Nailer. But unfortunately it's works by using a flywheel, like the DeWalt nailer, which I personally don't like. So might be a good idea to start looking out for those Metabo deals on cordless nailers; most recent one was for their 18 gauge Brad might still be up on Acmetools.
