    I agree with you. The Surge is the best multi-tool you can have as EDC. I have been using it for 4 years and I won’t replace it soon.

    everyone likes the surge .
    it is built better .
    but for me , I like to be practical.
    I mean , I'm not needing to use a set of players that is only good for , ... pulling out splinters .
    the pliers on the dual force are , closer to a good set of real working pliers !
    THE CHIZEL , THE SCREWDRIVER, AND THE FILE .... ARE MUCH MORE OF A PRACTICAL SET OF TOOLS .
    THE SURGE DOES HAVE A GOOD BOTTLE OPENER ON IT THOUGH .

    Wow! I came to see your review of the Gerber after having used it for a while, and lost track after seeing your Surge modification! I’ve seen a lot of Leatherman mods (as everybody else has probably seen, too) but in the ones I’ve seen, I’ve never seen anyone add wire strippers. Didn’t even think about that! Then it got me thinking, why the heck hasn’t the manufacturers thought about that yet! Of all the mods and add-ons, that’s the one thing I would love to see added by the manufacturers! 👍🏻👍🏻
    Nice mod!
    It wouldn’t hurt them to make a tool, without the bottle opener, can opener, wood saw, and add more trades specific tools and save the others for the more outdoors specific tools.

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your kind words! I agree more trade specific tools would be nice but it seems like that isn't where the money is. Thankfully some Chinese made multi tools have some of these parts, like wire strippers, we can scrap from them.

    I wish they made a dedicated electrician Surge. I don't need a can or bottle opener. The other screwdrivers are useless to me. But, I would like to have a 1/4 bit holder that folds out like the one on the Gerber. That would be way better. Definitely keep the scissors and the 2 knife blades. Too bad we can't customer order them. Cool mod tho.

    The free p4 has been great to me for the year I've had it! Pliars/wire cutters are great. Lot of useless tools on it that make great pry bars and screw drivers when you're in a tight spot. And a razor sharp knife!

    Ive had the wingman for 8 years. The tip broke so i fikes it down. The knife tip also broke so i mad it a tanto tip. The flat head screw driver broke close to the pivot screw not long ago.
    It been througuh and its still going but there areany things it cant do and i find myself looking for heavier pliers constantly. For light duty repetetitive work it is great because of the spring and the weight. But I havr upgraded to the Surge and it awesome.!

      @@hvacbudget8600Thanks. I am doing a review of my EDC over on my dystopian horror/post-apocalypse survival series channel. It might interest you to see it. Super convenient and fun to use. Kind of feels like a fidgit dealy when you click in and pop out the tool.
      The Channel is called the Norcom Union, if you would like to see it. I'll post it either today or tomorrow.
      I put my EDC together after imagining what the characters in my stories would carry in the wasteland to survive while doing their jobs. I got a bunch of weird and interesting stuff out of it that I put in my EDC.

    probably a different comment from the ones you are used to see but i wanted to share my story
    here in italy having/carrying multi tools or knives isn't really a thing, even for people who do manual jobs like electricians plumbers etc etc, i remember getting my leatherman surge at four years ago at 13 years old, and that tool always had my back, thanks to it i started working with my hands, kinda figuring out what i wanted to do as i went but no matter the material i was using or what i was fixing the surge always had my back, now I'm near my last year of high school as a mechatronics student, having worked in a couple of factories over the summer thanks to my school i had the chance to trurly prove my surge with everything the workplace threw at me and I'm glad to report it didn't disappoint, that tool will always have a place on my belt
    forgive me if i made any grammatical error writing this comment
    (also the bottle opener saw alot of use opening beers for the machinists... just saying)

    I hope you find uses for the Dual Force around the house. I'm loving the Super Tool 300. I've been using it daily for a month, hard to beat the tool set, I'm still routing for the Dual Force. For the people like yourself who have the Surge, I'm sure it hard to find a rival competitor. LONG LIVE LEATHERMAN!

      St 300 is nice,I fell in love when I some of the capabilities that the surge can handle within it's limitations of course, definitely love the t-shank adapter,also I can get scalpel blades for it to fit the t-shank adapter for a crafter blade or medical reasons,so I'd always have that blade razor sharp,I've found a awesome little ratchet for it besides the extender an the bit extender as well,so there is a lot going for the surge,I like the St 300 too,it's kinda like the surge big brother,I may get one just to have an switch out time to time,been wanting a charge plus tti too an possibly the ,k2 or k4, pretty nice one handed abled knives.

    Yes! Wire strippers! It's an important function that seems to have been forgotten. I think it's time to retire the can opener/bottle opener and include a better wire stripper.
    The surge has been my number one multi tool since 2008. I'm on the second generation now. I like the replaceable wire cutters, but I feel like the cutting surface is just a bit too small. You really have to focus to get the wire right on the cutting surface.
    Sog has a wire stripper blade you can buy for $12. It's designed to fit in their multi tools. You would take one blade/tool out and put the wire stripper in its place. I want to buy it and see if it can be made to fit the leatherman surge.

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree! I have the SOG stripper tool but I'm a bit on the fence about it. I'll try to do a video on it soon. I really wish Leatherman would make some dedicating Wire stripper blades or plier heads like the ES4 again.

    The problem that all of the multi-tool manufacturers are having is innovation because you can only do needle nose multi-tools for so long before their customer base stops buying the same old same old, thus the new duel force wide pliers. Only thing is I really wished since this tool is up there with the Sr 300 that at least had a 154 cm main cutting blade or s30v for the price,but no worries I now how to resharpen,it just would've been nice to have a blade to last on edge retention longer,just saying an probably bump up the serrated knife as well,I do like the draw knife grind but I also like the version they put on the free p4,you can use it like a scraper tool,but also that's what the awl is capable of too an package opener.
