    People expect multi tools to be as good as purpose built industrial equipment, when I use mine it's as an emergency make do, until I can get to my tool's. I think people's expectations of these things are too high and a lot of reviews place too much emphasis on the fact that their shortcomings. Good review 👍🇬🇧

      Imo people forget that they are meant to be a mobile convenient tool box to do pretty general tasks, not to build a house with. It's just convenient to have but I guess company marketing needed to keep pushing them as replacements.

      I agree with you all on this. Every time I watch a multitool review and listen to the reviewer about how it didn’t do perfect on every task thrown at it I think to myself, don’t they realize these things are only for emergencies and do not replace actual industrial tools? They’re not a mobile tool chest meant to tear down an engine or build a house with. 😂

    I used my dual force for commercial plumbing maintenance and repair. I cannot tell you how useful the thing is and how often I don’t need to go into my tool box to do little things like tighten packing nuts or use the screw driver. I swapped out the small flathead but for a torx bit I use on Chicago faucets. Great review and saw some other uses for it!

    I do internal hvac service at an industrial plant, I just got one of these last week, and I'm super impressed with it so far. The pliers are excellent for removing charging port caps in a pinch when I don't have my wrenches on hand. I've used it for tightening/loosening pipe fittings, nipples, and air hose fittings, also even used it to loosen a regulator off a nitrogen bottle. The knife blade and screwdriver work just as well as what I used to carry. (milwaukee razor) I was surprised by the functionality of the saw and chisel, as I used them to remove a stubborn pvc 90 on a broken condensate drain. I will say the biggest letdown for me is the wire cutters/strippers. But I didn't have high expectations for those to begin with

    Was gifted one recently. Plier head broke on the first use right in front of the guy who gave it to me. I was literally just trying to disconnect a hose from a pressure washer. The guy who gave it to me felt so bad that he went and got his money back on the Dual-Force and ordered me a Leatherman Surge. At the suggestion of one of your fellow TH-camrs, I grabbed a couple on sale for $55 each and my brother and I will be putting them to work. My brother will use his around the ranch we grew up on and under the hoods of cars to mi.ic an emergency roadside repair. Mine will be used at work, in the woods, and around the house. We'll see if that one was just a fluke or if there are a bunch of bad ones out there. We'll be reporting our results to the guy who suggested giving the tool another shot

    I despise walking around to get specific tools (thus why I carry a good multitool) so I find I just use wire cutters in a set of pliers to strip wire insulation. With a bit of practice I find that this is pretty effective. So my guess would be that the wire cutters could be used to strip insulation. For me, the difficulty would be getting used to the wire cutters being on the handle side of the pivot rather than out the front. As always, thanks for a great video.

    I think I would sharpen the teeth of the pliers but that probably doesn't matter too much in actual use. I was a big fan of the center drive for the driver. Having two extra bit slots on board the dual force is putting great use to what would be empty space. Because you mentioned Leatherman, I think it would be a fantastic idea if they would make an electricians wire cutter on a juice frame or similar sized multi-tool.

    Real test of cutters is cutting stranded wire not solid core. Are the pliers big enough to loosen and tighten garden hose/washing machine which is the number one plumbing pipe most people have to deal with. Also are the cutters wide enough to nibble through thick wire or heavy plastic hosing or other larger materials....

    I’m an electrician and while I wouldn’t swop out my purpose built tools; I have used my Leatherman Wave in a pinch, to cut and strip wire as well as to drive screws. While I started out, years ago, carrying a Gerber multi-tool I have long switches to Leatherman and just live my Waves; I’ll say in owning both that both companies stand behind their products as I’ve broke both brands and have never had an issue getting them replaced, with Leatherman actually replacing my old Waves with the new model Waves. While I can’t speak to Gerber Leatherman is great with the Military and have actually replaced blown up tools, something that I imagine most brands wouldn’t do, Benchmade is also known for their great Military warranty replacements.

    I wonder 🤔. If you use it for a .25 inch drive, how long will it take to round out?

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure if it will round out. As far as shaving it down, I think that might affect how securely the bit is held. The bit driver is bent so when it is extended it is at the right angle to be centrally situated. I think that is why the bit driver end is offset.

    Seems like the wire cutter is definitely limited to smaller wire. Definitely not a bad thing, but showcases that a proper tool is needed for larger tasks. What are your thoughts on this tool so far?

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it has added potential with the slip joint pliers to manipulate larger metal objects, but the Leatherman Surge will still outshine it in several areas. Like you said it will be limited in some areas. But I still think it's a big step forward for Gerber, not perfect but definitely much better than some of Gerber's multi tool s of the past.

      @@hvacbudget8600 i agree. How do you like the saw after using it?

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hunterglaspell I like the saw but it is thicker than the Leatherman Surge for instance. So the Surge's saw is only 2/3 the thickness of the DualForce. I would guess the Surge will look like it's cutting faster because it's cutting less of a width in the wood. It's not necessarily a bad thing in the DualForce just again hard to compare exactly to something else because it's different dimensions.

    Does it bother you that the Dual Force doesn't close flush and widens in a V- formation? I used the wire cutters on my Leatherman Super Tool 300 to cut tie wire today. Very effective. My first multitool with cutters integrated on the handles. Tie wire is the most dense material I've had to cut with a multitool. Smoky Mountain Knife Works sold the Dual Force at $79.99 before it sold out. I seen that somewhere advised and looked myself. I thought the Dual Force would sell for $110 but they must have bought a massive amount of bulk. I have to say for the cost, of the multitool the sheath looks flimsy and thin. Definitely could of gave you a nice ballistic nylon sheath similar to Leatherman's. This is the only multitool you can use for a year, and then see if it compares to the Super Tool 300 or more notably the Surge for it strength. Do you think you could do that, I bet not, haha! You love your multitool so I think the pressure would get to you haha! So lets say Gerber's Dual is the heavy duty tool for them, Surge for Leatherman. Has SOG came out with something they would consider heavy duty or competes with the other two titans?

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Dualforce closing doesn't really bother me because it slides into the pouch and carries well. The wobble at the handle ends is definitely different. I want to carry it for awhile before I decide how ok or bad that is.
      The sheath is ok for at least casual carry. I scuff both the Leatherman Surge Leather pouch up and the SOG Powerlock leather pouch up pretty bad in just a couple weeks time. I bought a nylon pistol pouch to use as a multi-tool holder on ebay and ruined it within about a month, so we'll see how well this holds up.
      Yeah.. it would be really hard to carry the Dualforce exclusively. I will try to carry it for a month or so for work.
      I have been carrying SOG's Powerlock for work before the Dualforce came but it definitely is not in the same league as the Surge. I don't think SOG has anything truly Heavy Duty. I would put the Powerlock more up against the Rebar or Bond. I have come to appreciate the Powerlock much more than I used to but I'm still not sure about it's toughness, but I would definitely say it's the toughest they have for now.

    I’m still impressed with that blunt plier head, although I was corrected about them. I had no idea that Gerber has been producing those for a fairly long time as I just plain missed ‘em. I have their first multi tool and it isn’t exactly a needle nose, but it’s not exactly blunt pliers either. I guess it’s more of modified needle nose or blunted needle nose, because it’s nowhere near the shape of that one. I guess I’ve just missed a lot of Gerber offerings. I still like that model enough to get one.
