I grew up in the same neighborhood and played with him back in the day in Clifton. He wouldn't remember me but we all remember him. He was 100% pure talent at a very young age, and surpassed every one of us. Guys, he was that one kid that could take on everyone of us at a young age. Him vs all of us, and he would still win. So no one was surprised when he went abroad. Even after he left at a young age, we all still talked about him in Clifton. He kept in contact with a few locals and they shared his info. He was somewhat a folk legend for those who remember/around him. His mother was a teacher at our school. His dad when he was back here, would help coach and help recruit us if we were good enough. (spoiler: we weren't) Still can't believe that one of "us" was one of the star players of la liga along with Messi and Ronaldo. It's a small world folks. Work hard and be dedicated to your craft.
Thank you so much man! We're actually going to be releasing more long form interviews on this channel. Hopefully you enjoy them as well. Anyone you'd like to see us interview?
USMNT should offer him a job related to youth development and recruiting. USMNT has been way better at recruiting dual nationals, but I imagine he can offer a very valuable perspective.
It sucks,we desperately needed someone like him for the USMNT , it sucks he turned his back on New Jersey to wear the Italian Jersey, having him play next to Landon would have been special. He probably would have been a USMNT legend, but he chose Italy. But good for him. He was the piece we were missing to win the confederations cup, no doubt. We had a 2-0 lead on Brazil without him. But good for him he scored on us at the cc. 👍 Job 🙂
I'll never forget that brace he scored against us in the confederations cup. Definitely was a villain at the time but hearing his reasoning, these choices happen for every nation. It's up to them who to represent and we shouldn't hold that against them. I'm sure Sergino Dest is getting a lot of criticism now.
Nah, Dest was a sought after prospect for then but the Dutch understood that it was no guarantee he'd break into the team. Rossi could've been one of our best players but injuries derailed his career so it doesn't seem to matter that much anyway.

My brother in laws older brother played against Landon Donovan in high school
Solid Interview, definitely needed to hear Why we got the snub. #closure
Shame he had so much trouble with injuries. Was a massive talent
massive talent. Great on camera though! Hopefully he can have a nice career in media
In Italy though.
Great interview!
Thank you so much!
this is really underrated interviewing, great job.

He could have been the Michael Jordan of Soccer here...Imagine if Pulisic chose Croatia.
We agree but I like how he lays out his thinking at the time
He could have been important also for Italy if not because of the injuries
If Pulisic chose Croatia he would be way behind Luka Modric.
He could of been the best 9 we had

Wow Pepito got a thick Jersey accent! Will always remember his hattrick vs Juve.
Genuinely thought he was Italian till now lol wow 😅
Without injuries, he could've became a legend. He played like Ronaldo Lima, similar techniques for ball control and style of shooting.
facts!

That brace KILLED us
Dest isn't even good enough for the Netherlands.
Do they speak about italoamericans at any point in the interview?
Is this the name of a youth club?
@@SoccerCooligans It's a shitty podcast indeed.
