These "church sonatas" were basically some kind of religious interludes during offices, where the organ could concert with a small number of instruments - usually exclusively string ones. It was not so easy to write such short pieces in a highly consistent way, to find the right compromise between church and profane styles, and I should add "and to satisfy Colloredo"? This is the only point which Mozart failed to achieve :-) All the other points are wonderfully achieved. The flexibility of Mozart's genius, even in his early works, is absolutely prodigious.
Similar to Biber’s “Sonatae tam aris quam aulis” in Salzburg.

Cute recording, though completely out-of-date in our time of historically informed performance practices. These church sonatas were composed for the Italian trio sonata complement of two violins and figured basso continuo (i.e., a cello or double bass and organ). You'd have a problem fitting a string orchestra with a conductor and soloist into most choir lofts, hence the spartan instrumentation. Weird camera footage to go with the weird performance.
