Wisconsin River Fishing for as many fish species as possible (June Fishing Tournament ep. 12)

Every June, I enter into the Roughfish Multispecies Fishing Challenge. The goal it to catch as many different freshwater species of fish as you can in the month of June. Micro fish do not count. Only the fish that can grow to a weight of one pound or more when they are an adult. On the second last day of the month, I had 28 points, which only two fish away from the top 10. it is not anywhere near 0 fish I was hoping to catch total, but I'm not quitting! That means it was time to head to the Wisconsin River and fish it hard so I could add to my total. There was only one problem. The Wisconsin River was flooded.

Great tournament for you, glad you got that walleye! I forgot, did you want to reach 30 this year, or 40? Remember when it took you a few years to get to 50, now you've caught over 30 in one month? Still love your videos, thanks for sharing!

Awesome series. Your videos have definitely inspired and motivated me to get out and do my own species hunting. I'm going to figure out those stupid hogsuckers this summer, I see them ALL THE TIME in that river and it's time to perfect hunting them.
I'm thinking if I had more time, I would have just went upriver from where I was seeing the hogsuckers, put out, like, three set lines, and just waited for a few hours. My sightfishing strategy sucked for them.
@@tiefsa That might be the way to do it. Plus the more time you are out there, the more paddlers can float by giving you weird looks when you tell them what you are fishing for!

No bluegill is too big to be flathead bait! Wish we could use them in MN. Fun watching your videos about a contest Ive been doing for years! High water in MN made things really tough this year too. Couldnt get a beat on the gar or the buffalo this year.
That’s good to know about flatheads. Yeah, the water levels in MN looks crazy! It wasn’t too bad in Southeastern WI
I really enjoyed the premiere style for the last episode! Felt like the anticipation for a big movie you've been looking forward to with the countdown and notification that it was starting up soon.
Great work also in the tourney! I know you might not have hit all the metrics you wanted going into the challenge, but I've found that after doing it this first time that even though we feel we fall short, that it's the eagerness of going out and trying new areas that keeps us coming back for more.
I’m glad you enjoyed the premiere. I’m already plotting and planning in my mind for next year. I think I might try leaving the state to really give myself a good chance at top 10, plus it wouldn’t be as repetitive of videos
That's my thoughts too for next year, though it would be just to neighboring WI where I can use 3 lines instead of 1 in MN. Either way it'll be another good reason/excuse to get out and do some more fishing!

As someone who fishes at the Prairie Du Sac dam regularly… holy freaking crap the water is so high. That path/ramp you’re fishing from is the one we use to bring our fishing cart down to the sands… jesus.
I’ve been there before, and it was crazy how high the water was and how fast the current was
30 isn't anything to sneeze at! For the mooneye, don't be afraid to cast out into the current and bounce along the bottom. They love movement and current in big rivers like that

what size weight do you use for the river? is it supposed to move in the current or stay in one spot
Btw what were you using what was that tube like thing?
The current was so strong. I was using a two ounce weight. The thing I was using is called a "slinky" weight. I made them myself, but I bet if you search the internet, you could find some to buy. They are lead buckshot stuffed into a paracord. This type of weight snags way less on the bottom, especially if it is rocky. I don't remember what video I made that has the tutorial! Sorry!

For next year there is flat head at the "Hidden Spillway" you will just catch alot of annoying channel cats first

I don’t even think I have caught 30 spices of fish in my life I have caught around 25 the fact that you did that in 30 days is crazy
The winner of the competition travelled across the US and ended up catching 105 different species in the month. Now that's insane!
