I've always been intrigued as to why M.Gira specifically uses a Gibson BB King Lucille almost exclusively. I suppose the real answer is probably along the lines of simply "because hejust likes it, that's why", but I can't be the only one whose struck by what a unique choice of guitar it is considering the music he makes.
i think his guitar parts are mostly mid-range frequencies, at least in this iteration of the band it gives the music some meat next to the much brighter telecaster and lap steel. semi-hollow body works good for that
I had luck to exchange few words with the pedal steel player (sorry, don't know his name),a skinny guy, very polite and friendly. It was in Rijeka/Croatia after (or before?) the gig. Which was brutal and punishing, a real experience
@@zeno6169 It was...an Experience (ordeal?), a skin-raking, tooth-loosening, ground-shaking, cyclical marathon of quiet intensity-cum-ear-splitting soundscape I have neither heard, nor felt, in many, many years. I knew it was going to be an Event when pedal-steel player took stage, walked over, & personally handed me not 1, but 2 sets of ear plugs from his suitcoat pocket. For duration, from head to toe, hairs long & short across my entire body vibrated. A team of talented musicians giving 100% thruout, w/every ounce of attention laser-focused on Gira, simultaneously rocked their soles off/souls out whilst fearing having them ripped asunder if caught slacking, or failing to crescendo to nth degree whenever Michael elevated an eyebrow, lifted a lid, or frantically raised/gyrated his arms in mesmerizing attempt to literally PULL the sounds he demanded from them. Gyrating audience transfixed, entranced, or perhaps struck dumb. Empty beer cans/plastic cups danced across floor of their own accord, prompted by palpable vibration. Michael agreed to post-gig signing of autobio I bought, but I had to split w/band still onstage playing last song. They started late & ran long. Still kickin' myself in arse, but If not left when did, I'd have missed last train + bus & been stranded overnite on winter street in cold City rain. Regardless, glad I checked email 45 mins prior to showtime, cuz I won those tix! Missed most of 1st band. All I recall is gal vocals & chorus of, "Eff u, I quit!" But caught entire Swans set.
You probably could not. It’s one thing to be able to play a chord, it’s another chug away at a chord for 10+ minutes IN TIME while Gira gutturally screams, possibly at YOU if you mess up a bit.
Superrrr late to this, but it sounds like it's Eden Prison from a lyrical point, but the instrumental actually ended up becoming The Daughter Brings The Water
I feel like being in a band with Micheal Gira would be fucking terrifying

@@melvinmelvins5202 what song
Been into SWANS since 1968. I still remember their first show ever in 1952.
Wait

bro.
Gira's looking a lot like my father after work
You have a dad?
@@internetsuser5251I have a dad… in case you were wondering.
did he guide you up a rope to the sky?
I hear they are amazing live. My sister saw them play twice in Melbourne recently and she came away a huge fan.
One of the best gigs I’ve been to. Definitely a spiritual experience. Super, super, loud. Shakes yuh right to your bones.
I just went to a Swans gig. It was probably the loudest live I've been to. If you have a chance, you have to see them live.
I never heard of Swans until 3 years ago. Saw them live and they blew me away. Thanks to my mate Phil for me getting into them..
Cheers to Phil!
I read "Swans Bad Practice" and thought it was a song I didn't know. Kinda sounds like a Swans song title.

@@y4bly That's possibly the reason. I feel like he saw it as a standard 335 without the hassle of feedback and the 5th knob was a bonus for options.
Swans is the blues
I love watching them work.
In response to Carol Miller's question, the song is Eden Prison.
This is why I love the Internet.
Thank you, recently seen them play in Auckland, New Zealand - epic.

Genius.
thank you very much man! saw them live last night, brilliant band
“Can I trouble you for your leather, man?”
Finally! After all these yrs, will be seeing them tomorrow night.

Hes lost a lot of weight since this.
I learned one thing from this video: I could be a member of Swans. I don't know how to play guitar.
The important thing is learning how to make whatever you play sound good, and that’s what Gira does and has been doing since 1979.
You probably could not. It’s one thing to be able to play a chord, it’s another chug away at a chord for 10+ minutes IN TIME while Gira gutturally screams, possibly at YOU if you mess up a bit.

I think is Oxygen? from To Be Kind. The album version sounds totally different tho.

Eden Prison from My father will guide me up a rope to the sky

Way to make something really wonderful sound like ass, Fader.
5 pieces of animated meat have no taste or spirit.
very bad sound quality
ValMil rehearsal.
You're hearing a recording from a single mic in a small room with a ton of loud instruments playing, there's no mixing or anything.
Very bad comment quality
