  • A quick, spring spruce up. We whitewashed the pallet chicken coop with First Saturday Lime. One gallon of this mixture covered the inside and outside of the 6x8' coop. I may do this with each change of the warmer months. So, spring, summer, and fall.

You can just spread the lime without wetting it and you don't need salt.

Why not put your dry ingredients in first and then pour in your water it will mix some as you pour?

Will it work the same mix to whitewash the citrus trees?

It works wonderfully! We use it every time we clean. Just sprinkle around. The outside and inside of the coop is still going strong with our paint layer. After a day, you could see the lime more clearly than in the video. Highly recommend!

How many times do you apply the white wash?

You would need to do 2 coats. When I checked it the next day, I could really see the whitewash. It just needed time to soak in. I may stick to just one coat. My plan is to do it every spring and fall, minimum.

@@smallfarmcharm2691 That k you so much for replying ❤️ Can I ask you a question? Can I also use FSL and DE together for dust bath? New chicken Mom. Thank you in advance😊

@@islndprncess23 I have a dustbath with washed construction sand, and they do not use it. My guess is it's not loose enough for them or perhaps too coarse. My plan this week was to mix 1/3 of the sand with 1/3 peat moss and 1/3 soil. Then mix in a few cups of FSL. I don't think you need DE if you are doing the FSL as they both achieve the same results in getting rid of parasites.
There is much controversy about the safety of food grade DE for chickens, whereas FSL is safe for their delicate respiratory systems. I've read a lot on the topic and encourage everyone to do research, and whatever you feel comfortable with. My conclusions are that FSL is also not irritating to their skin, and I don't have to worry about them inhaling it. I hope that helps!
