    I did this to my coop, a full two years ago. It’s held up amazingly well. Never had a single bug issue or health issue with my chickens. I’m getting ready to do a deep clean bc I’ve yet to do that and I’m going to redo the white wash. I get groceries delivered and during the summer they send them in bubble wrapped thermal bags. I saved them, laid that on my floor, then linoleum. It’s worked out great as well.

      I’m glad it was helpful. I’ve honestly only had to touch it up a little over the years. Mostly after a deep spring clean really. It’s proved to be successful due to no bugs at all in the coop after years

    I just finished with the 2nd coat of paint in our biggest chicken coop. As far as I remember we shoukd use 3 coats altogether, and one additional coat every year to refresh it. My grandparents used this in chicken coops, dog sheds and pig sties.
    I hope this whitewash will sort the red mites issues, we had so many last year. We used blowtorch every single day to sort them but it was never ending, there was always some more.

      Thank you! It has seemed to be a great choice in the coop. I have only re-applied one coat since this video and none of the wood inside is showing any signs of rot of bug infestation of any kind. The old ways were refined through a lot of trial and error and learning from them is such a great way to keep that wisdom alive. Cheers!

It came with all kinds of CA 95 warnings.. about inhalation risks.. so I freaked out.. can you advise that you think?

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Betty Martin full disclosure, I am not an expert, but; from what I found through some research prior to your question, hydrated lime can be used to coat eggs to by sealing the pores and sustaining their freshness for about 6 months. It’s not good to breath it because it reacts to water. Don’t wash the eggs prior to this because it can remove a natural coating effecting the pores. The “s” type refers to “special” differing it from “normal”. Which from what I have found simply means the way it reacts to water. Although is says it’s used for concrete, it’s simply the same as pickling lime, but branded different and extremely cheaper. I hope this was helpful. If you do in fact use HLP to water glass or slack lime your eggs please let me know how it goes. ATB, cheers

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      C F from my limited experience with chickens so far, they are like toddlers. They put anything they can in their mouths but pretty much only what's on the ground. When I stained the updated feeder box I got some plant based stain and it was super $$$$. But for a feeder box I figured worth it. As far as exterior paint I would say latex should be fine.
