    Both coast redwood and giant redwood seeds seem to give me around a 10% germination rate so best to plant a lot of them. They don't need cold stratification but this can help them to germinate a little faster. I've grown redwood seeds for the last few years so have learnt their little quirks! Good video by the way!

      Okay awesome! I’ll certainly have to try that and make sure I have a lot of seeds

      Do you peel the top part of that seed off, or is it able to grow out of it on its own?

    • @deersbrook4485
      @deersbrook4485 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TylerSmithMusic1 No, just plant the whole seed. Sometimes as they germinate, the seed stays on. It will eventually pop off by itself, but occasionally I have pulled it off with tweezers being careful not to pull the seedling too much. Hope that helps.

    When a friend gave me a kit I was really looking forward to trying it however my seed kit was mis-packaged with instructions for actual seedlings which left me pretty confused so I am very happy you were able to provide instructions for planting seeds.

    Amazing! Do you know how Coast Redwood behave on a tropical enviroment? cold but close to the equator ? I would love to plant them here but we dont have seasons. Just rain and sunny seasons during the year.

    Coast redwoods are nice. Not as thick as their Sequoia cousins but taller. A frequent sight in the Coast Range just a few minutes from where I live.

    Superb intro for beginners, FYI : out west the " Whitebark Pine " has recently been designated as in jeopardy and worthy of cultivating.

    You get this kit from Richardson grove? Just curious I’m a tree climber from that area and it’s my favorite tree plus I’ve climbed a dead removal the average size of the old growth in that forest it was an awesome/once in a lifetime experience

    I got my 50 seeds today what kind of soil do I need and pot sizes?

    • @LeonardoJovaniVazquez
      @LeonardoJovaniVazquez 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm probably gonna start with 5 cuz I hear the seeds last 50 yrs untill u Wana grow more.

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly an all purpose potting mix would work just fine, and you can start small for pots sizes to begin with. Maybe 4 1/2 inch pots would be okay and you could put two seeds in just to give a higher chance for germination

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure if you could count on 50 years but they will definitely last for a while

    So I have to put my seeds in the fridge I got mine from ebay and I would love to grow them.

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ideally, yes that would be the best thing. What you’re doing is making the seeds feel like they are going through winter and then when you take them out to a warmer location they think it’s springtime, which will lead to them starting to grow. As long as you follow the directions on the paper you should be fine!

    Very nice vid! Someone did an experiment with 1200 seeds on what conditions are best, turns out too much sun isn't good at the beginning. Full video here: th-cam.com/video/9ah5OtWQIW4/w-d-xo.html (for giant redwoods though, not same as coastal redwoods)

      Now that you mention it that certainly could be the reason why I didn’t have success the first time around. Thanks for the info!
