They fill the fryer with too much oil and don't use common sense to allow displacement of the Turkey in the oil and the oil flows over the top of the deep fryer bursts into flames and burns down the house. I've seen this time after time after time. The dumbing down of America. Some people have no common sense and "rules are for thee, NOT for me".

Insurance, good insurance, does cover stupidity. I know of a home that was a total loss due to a gas fire, on CHRISTMAS DAY. The pipes had froze, and they had no running water as a result. The home owner took a blow torch to it to thaw the pipes, but whoops, those weren’t water pipes. The company put a sign out in their yard. They wanted everyone to know who insured them. They wanted that good publicity, and probably got several new policies out of it. But also, it sounds like the family in the video were true victims who did not set off the fireworks, simply someone nearby, most likely a next door neighbor. Homeowners insurance will pay for their house, and possibly the contents. Car insurance, if full coverage, will cover the loss of car. Both companies will sue the daylights out of whoever was determined to have set them off, in order to recoup their losses, but there will still be things that simply will never be replaced and can never be replaced.
Tens of thousands of people buy fireworks each year in Michigan. For them, there's the thrill factor in lighting fireworks. Many older people, along with many cats and dogs, are quite upset about the fireworks.

I grew up in the 70's with access to fireworks but my father followed the rules and we did not shoot of airborne rockets, bottle rockets or roman candles around homes or in the city limits because of threat to homes, families who don't want to hear the explosions and the damage to pets. Fireworks clearly set off unwanted fires and therefor endanger houses and businesses as you should have been able to figure out. In the 70's and 80's and maybe some of the 90's if a normal person/s shot off fireworks in the city in neighborhood they would be found or reported and fined or possibly arrested. That was then but now with the last few generations and the influx of people from foriegn countries with different upbringing, the age/time of lawlessness has taken hold and the police no longer control the cities. Also, to mention fireworks explosions, flashes and pops terrify pets and during the illegal fireworks usage many dogs and pets panic and escape out of yards to flee from the fireworks and get lost and killed. By the time the Fire crew showed up the flames was right up to the back fence. We were scrambling to drag the essentials to the Cars. The next morning I saw a bunch of Roman Candle laying in the Hillside, some Scumbag did it intentionally.

Why? If he was the one shooting off the fireworks, he's responsible for the damages he caused to his own house and to the neighbor's house. "The city" does not set off fireworks inside the city limits unless they can do so over a body of water or they can have a large contingent of fire trucks around the firing zone---and most cities aren't stupid enough to waste fire fighter resources.
It could be denied if there was negligence at play like they shot the fireworks to close to the house or close to other flammable objects but if this was not intentional insurance covers stupidity if the policy is all peril.

My mother hates all the fireworks being set off in Dearborn Heights and is thinking of writing to Dearborn Heights city council to show her displeasure.
Some men love to set off fireworks because it's an event and activity and they can show off their testosterone ability and machoness.

I'm inside city limits where ordinances have been passed to prevent issues with fire and noise. There are some people that have true issues with the noises, and I am one of them, and it really sucks when there's no where to get away from it! NO WHERE! I used to deal with it 1 day a year, for a couple hours. It started last weekend and they were still going off on 7/6. They start days before the New Year and now Christmas is becoming a regular thing. I live in the center of city limits. I selected this house (paying more) because it is in the city limits and there is an ordinance against fireworks within the city limits. There is no such ordinance outside the city limits. I've done everything I can do to comply. How do I get my peace? We chose where we live. I purposely chose to live where I do, in the city limits. What about those that choose to destroy my peace by violating the ordinance.... "just for one day". By that thinking, I guess you'd be OK with everyone stealing or murdering, that wants to, because it's for their fun, for "men to have fun for just 1 day a year". Where's my right to peace and happiness?

Why? If he was the one shooting off the fireworks, he's responsible for the damages he caused to his own house and to the neighbor's house.
"The city" does not set off fireworks inside the city limits unless they can do so over a body of water or they can have a large contingent of fire trucks around the firing zone---and most cities aren't stupid enough to waste fire fighter resources.
homeowners insurance may not cover this, since it technically could be considered arson.
I am an insurance adjuster this will be covered and it is not arson because arson has to be an intentional act.
It could be denied if there was negligence at play like they shot the fireworks to close to the house or close to other flammable objects but if this was not intentional insurance covers stupidity if the policy is all peril.

A toaster caused a fire in my childhood home. Near total loss. We barely made it out alive. By the logic of many commenters here I suppose toasters should only be in restaurants.
Toasters are entirely legal to have in homes, obviously. Fireworks, by their very nature, are meant to be handled by intelligent people who understand the great risks that accompany shooting them off, and do everything possible to minimize such risks.
By your foolish "logic" nobody should have anything at all in their homes that might possibly, maybe, somehow remotely cause any kind of potential issue.

The purpose of the thing is basically irrelevant. Provided it wasn't made by Dr. Kevorkian the "intent" is for people to use it safely. Every year millions of people use and enjoy fireworks. Every year millions are "intelligent" enough to not get hurt using fireworks. Tweaks to the system might increase that. But no amount of interference will eliminate risk. There is risk in everything.
