I remember the first time I ever saw the Milky Way. I was at a camp site up at Sauble Beach, Ontario....my ex and I had just smoked a little J, we laid back on the grass and suddenly were shocked by this gargantuan pink and orange THING looming over us. The detail that the naked eye can see in the dust clouds and star clusters is astonishing. That experience changed me forever. How is any of this possible? The road to enlightenment is the realization that God is impossible and foolish, and then believing in Him anyway, because without a God, life loses all meaning...THAT is where the greatest of minds have always settled.

Lost my dad in January 2018, so this was my first Father's Day without him. So, I appreciate this video so much! He helped me into astronomy back when i was 6 and bought me a Sears refractor for $300 whole dollars ( this was 1974!), and I was hooked. We looked through my Obsession 25" Dob LOTS of times before he was unable to walk, much less climb, so we shared so much of that together. Astronomy can be such a HUGE family experience. We were recently in the florida panhandle, and I showed my daughter the Milky Way and we say Meteors all night from the roof of a house near the ocean. We could see Messier objects with naked eyes, and used binocs to resolve them. Such an amazing experience. This is an incredible hobby, and you are doing an incredible job. Thank you very much, Trevor, for reminding me of why I love this so much!

So, I can definitely see, what you mean. It probably was around Bortle 2 there. Sometimes, when the weather is perfect, it reaches Bortle 1. It's such a shame that most people have no idea what's above their heads, just because they cannot see it anymore.

That's a wonderful video Trevor! I've just been myself to a StarParty here in Italy, and apart from capturing some nice images with my setup, I really enjoyed the feelings and inspiration that you get out there under a nice sky together with other fellow stargazers. It's always hard getting to some nice dark skies, but when you do it, the reward is always big and fills your heart! Loved Al Nagler's reaction to that 36"! :-) I had the luck once to look into a similar sized dobson in the Atacama Desert, pointing at the Tarantula Nebula, and it was shocking, like looking at a long exposure picture! When you get to such big diameters, you can actually start to see some hints of colors!

This year (2022) was my first Father's Day without my dad who passed in November of 2021. I took my son to a dark site over the weekend and it was amazing immediately after getting out of the truck. My first thought was, "I bet Dad would have loved to be out here."

It was great meeting you and Ash at CSSP!!! Awesome video... it really captured the essence of the event. Long live the image intensifier event at Kevin's 36" dob on M17 and Al Nagler yelling "Holy S*1t!" That Messier object will always remind me of that experience! I'm honored to have been included in one of your videos. Clear skies my friend.... until next time!

I'm new at this type of night photography. I need a good camera and telescope for the sky photos. I like your set up.
I'm new to your channel. I like snow at night. I haven't figured out the best way for shooting those shots.

Just made my first trip to cherry springs last weekend (it's about a 2.5 hour drive for me.). It was under a full moon but viewed saturn, Mars, jupiter and the moon. My girlfriend and I were awestruck by the views but high level clouds on Friday night, and mostly cloudy skies Saturday night put a damper on any imaging attempts. I'm an amateur by every stretch but your videos are keeping me motivated to not give up and keep trying. I'm so sorry for your loss of your father and your tribute to him is beautiful. Would love to run into you someday at cherry springs and thank you personally for the work you do and the help you have given not only me, but my girlfriend, and so many others out there. Clear skies my friend.

Thirty some odd years ago took my telescope to Ft. Davis in West Texas.
The Milky Way was so bright it cast shadows.
Before electrification that was the sky every person in the world experienced.
So many are urban dwellers now they have no concept of the true nature and beauty of the heavens.

Every time you reveal the picture I just get goosebumps and get emotional, it's so amazing to see the beauty of those galaxy's! I wish I was able to start with this hobby, but the equipment is just so expensive and there's a lot of light pollution in my area. I already have a great DSLR and I'm saving up for a better lens for shooting the milky way and maybe a telescope in the future. I also hope to get my driver's license to get away from the light pollution :D.
Anyway, I really enjoy your videos, thanks for making my evening again :)

What an amazing video! I actually recognized the tree line as being Cherry Springs. I spent many a night there over the years. I also stop at that same store, in Olean, for last minute supplies. I cannot wait to get back down there. Maybe our paths will cross there someday. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us! Clear skies!

I did some travelling around SE Asia late 2018. Whilst on the island of Gili Air, I was able to see the Milky Way with my own eyes as there was very little light pollution. It was the first time I had seen it myself. I couldn't stop looking at it. It's just beautiful. Your pic is brilliant. Well done.

Amazing video. How much detail could you see with the 36" dob? Colors? And I am sorry about your father and your tribute to him is nothing short of amazing. This being father's day 2 years later I really feel you. We are all star stuff, born from it and cycled back into it. Love your videos. Keep up the good work Trevor!
