There is surely a therapy group dedicated to RV mods somewhere, that can get you through this jack turning aversion/phobia 😂. Yes mine is turned to allow the gate down and most when I back into a site I don’t think they are laughing and pointing at the jack 😅 And yes you wouldn’t be the witty guy you are without “slipping in” the 1” reference 📏. Tell Trish I am so happy she is chasing her dreams (and that you support her so nicely)
I'm in the same boat, spent way too many hours looking for a longer shank, I'm not turning the jack, the search continues, and the oysters aren't bad, not much to them
@morsegrad88 love the reference to Funny Farm and the Lamb Fries /Rocky Mountain Oysters... one of my favorite movies!! (Not sure why the aversion to turning your power tongue jack sideways. I just bought a TT but haven't taken possession yet... if my tailgate won't open I plan to turn it sideways. I'll have to watch the video that's linked...)
You guys are so much fun to watch and provide really great ideas and advices!! my husband and I are planning on buying an airstream Flying Cloud with office! We both work remotely…this year and go full time RV life! Very excited! He also cycles and got great idea from you as of where to put the bikes, please put more content in regards your bike rides etc! 🎉
It's so good to see you towing with just a standard hitch and ball. I am shocked how many people spend multiple thousands of dollars on all these WD setups and it's not necessary. I've been towing non RV trailer for 25 years and have never used anything other than a standard hitch and safety chains. Love these types of videos!!
I know we're all a little different, as am I, but I didn't watch any of the Paris trip, in that it's the RVing that I love, and above all, even as a senior I've never been to Europe and could care less if I ever do, it's North America that I love and want to see more of, and in this life, we've only got 'so much' time, and of course there are places I've seen twice now, and would love a third or fourth time, such as Alaska, Southern Arizona in the winter, and most of the west coast, albeit no hurry to see California for many reasons. I still have most of the east coast to see, and this KYD crew checks all/most of the boxes for all of that!
You're hitch wow's are the reason I still use a WDH on my 19' airstream and pull with an F250. 😆 With WDH my tailgate goes down with ease. Yes, i feel like people look at and go really😜 but thats a hard stop for me got to have the tailgate go all the down.
I actually backed the video up because I looked away when the screen in the truck showed what Mark has in his phone for Trish’s name! That has become one of my favorite parts of your videos. I couldn’t stand to miss it. No pressure to come up with great names from now on!
I really feel for you having to drive I-17 so much! It gets so busy, and the construction lately has been horrid. BUT, the Rock Springs pies are to die for!!!!
I have the bulletproof setup with my E4 hitch. I can lower the tailgate on my F250 with our grand design 312BHTS. This thing is heavy. But it’s built to last. Love it.
I'm not sure if you read comments on weeks old videos, but I have some thoughts on the hitch. I just upgraded to a F150 with Max Tow Package from a Tahoe with a Max Tow package. As I was looking at the two vehicles, I realized that there is a big difference in wheel base and the distance from the rear axle to the hitch pin. Using the law of leverage, the further behind the pivot point (rear axle) that the force is placed (pin placement), the more force is pushed in the opposite direction on the other side of the pivot point. So, as you extend the hitch to be further from the rear axle, to give you access to the tailgate, you are putting more upward force on the front axle. Depending on your set up, you still may be able to get away without a WDH. But, It wouldn't surprise me if some type of WDH wouldn't help as you get further form the rear axle, in order to help that leverage issue out. I'm curious to see what you find out as you look for answers. I get the idea of backing things off to access the tailgate. I'm looking at the same issue in my new truck, where I used to be able to pop open the back glass to access the rear area. I'll be watching.
Love watching yall and really want yall to know your really lucky to have a partner that loves to travel and live life with you. My wife is a home body and I'm an adventurer so 90% of my adventures are alone. But on bright side is i get to watch the love in yalls eyes as yall explore the world and mostly the U.S.
Gen Y Boss Hitch will give you the space you need to be able to open the truck bed. We added it and it improved the ride so much and gave us the ability to open the tailgate.
Pull the pin and slide that solid steel bar out of the receiver until you have enough room to clear the tailgate. Now, using the holes in the side of the receiver, mark the bar and drill (or have someone drill) a second new hole for your pin. Been there - done that - problem solved - works great.
Just finished watching episode 436 and quite surprised that you were here in Scottsdale Arizona at the same time that I am! I have been wearing my KYD hat just in case I saw someone around the area that might have one as well. You can imagine my surprise that I might have even been near the originators! I now feel so special!🤪
You should look into the Gen Y hitches. They make a torsion type hitch that would dampen the trailer from the truck and I think it would give you the offset you want to be able to open your tailgate.
The only hitch that I know of that will give you enough extension to allow your tailgate to drop would be the Gen-Y hitch, The Boss. It also gives you a torsion flex. However that weighs around 75 lbs.
If your looking for a good weight distribution hitch if your thinking of going back to one in the future i would say the Andersen Weight Distribution hitch is a great option. I use it on my small 17ft travel trailer and has worked wonders for me since i was caught in a sway situation in the past and after buying this hitch i have never had another sway episode. Glad you guys are back in the rig! Safe Travels!
Nice to see how you transition from Paris to cabin to Airstream. You could go to a custom welding shop and have a hitch made to order fabricated to be able to drop the tail gate. Enjoy your travels!
I laughed out loud when you said “I’m not turning this” even though it will work just as well sideways, backwards or even upside down. Not to mention giving you that extra inch of clearance you wanted. But hey, it’s your rig. 😊
I’m going to apologize in advance for being the ridiculous super fan … I will not be that very personable guy you ran into… I will be the OMG, OMG, OMG …. It’s KYD, it’s KYD … I mean Marc and Trish…. I love you guys … totally jumping up and down inside with excitement. Telling myself to stop being an idiot!! Sooo, I’m soooo sorry in advance if I ever run into you … I’m not a stalker and since I live on the east coast it’s unlikely I’ll run into ya… but, you did come thru Schenectady once and totally blew the pronunciation, so yeah … I’ll try to keep it contained … but no promises!! LOL
Mark!!! best hitch for your need is the B&W Tow and Stow. USA made has the drop you are looking for and also has a fold away option for when you unhitch so that way as you mentioned no liability when parking. I would also recommend not removing when unhitching as being crashed into from the rear before I can say from personal experience that the hitch won the battle with the hyundai elantra and left his vehicle totaled with my only damage being a small cosmetic dent in the rear bumper.
I must say I do like that scale... Cool. and yup I also enjoy the smell of the furnace buring the downtime dust off... Always wonder if I am about to burn the rig, but never have yet :) Continued safe travels....
Equalizer has an 18” extended shank hitch. I used it for years before buying a 5th wheel and being able to lower your tailgate is money. Highly recommended.
Marc, take a look at the shocker hitch. Works with or without weight distribution. We have a 31’ classic and it helped get rid of the porpoising when driving over the bridge decks on the east coast. Also puts the trailer back a few inches so the tailgate is not an issue . Love your channel , inspired us to purchase an Airstream in the first place vs a 5 th wheel
Welcome back travelers. Since you only tow that Airstream, the simplest ball mount is all you need. Great seeing you use BTBRV scale. I thought you were going to have flashbacks to Australia/New Zealand when the right hand side driver passed by. Thank you for sharing and have a great thanksgiving.
Trish!!! Life changing jar opening trick: use a butter knife flat slid under the lid and gently twist until you hear the slightest pop and it comes right off 🎉 Also if you have that little hook-like thing on your can opener (looks like it could also be a bottle opener), on some jar lids that will catch under a lid and you can gently lift until you hear a pop. My husband says he feels no longer needed, lol.
YES! Bulletproof hitch! We use that exact same one for our 2019 FC27FBQ on our 2022 RAM 3500 and LOVE IT! I can't get my tailgate down either, but I don't care. It tows, turns and backs great!
OMG thank you for giving me a good place to stop on my way to San Diego Friday. Happy to see you out on the road again. Truck wash on Thanksgiving day. Road prep. 🛻
@10:55 Some F-250’s (like mine) and I think most F-350’s have a 3” receiver. I bought the Bullet Proof 3” hitch on day one after trying my old hitch with a 3” to 2.5” to 2” reducer and it was extremely unsafe. Been running the Bullet Proof hitch for 4 years now and it’s solid! But I have a similar setup as far as not needing weight distribution since I have an F-250 Tremor which is essentially an F-350 and I have airbags. I did end up getting the anti-sway attachment for the hitch which has helped in high wind situations especially out west.
@ absolutely. I didn’t mean you were wrong or anything. Just wanted to clarify that some F-250’s have a 3” receivers if it has the Tremor package and I think the diesel and not the 7.3 gasser.
Oh Good Guys car shows so much fun been to Indy twice and Nashville fun fun we have 49 Studebaker pick up hot rod with 502 now 70 husband passed Feb 2020 ! Many of our friends have have passed are not driving the cars anymore but we travelled with a great group so ,ugh fun driving down the road with a group 6 or 7 cars and trucks and see reactions and the Good guys bring out the best hot rods we spent 3 years building now just me take to local shows now but you brought back so many fun memories by mentioning Good Guys Thank You for sharing and made me smile today! 😀😍
So cool you found the Swedish dish Hasselbacks potato. It was founded at Hasselbacken restaurant in Stockholm Sweden by the main chef in the 50ies. It is so good, the more butter pored on it in the oven, the better. ;) I love your cabin, it is so cosy. Thank you for sharing, good friendly vibes as always!
Yep I also have the 250 with 8 k trailer. Don’t need weight distribution but need sway in heavy wind. Should have bought the Anderson It makes a difference.
Love your youtube site. We also go/camp at Good Guys but in the summer around 4th of July in Des Moines. Most of the cars line up in the campgrounds. Nothing like hearing at 5 am starting their cars{NOT!!) but our friends and husband loves it. Out they go watching them with their morning coffee! See you in Iowa again for RAGBRI!
I get abnormally excited about lunch boxes (my daughters to this day say that one of the best parts of going back to school was shopping for a new lunch box with dad…) so it makes me so HAPPY to see SPAM box looking out your bedroom window still. If you’re going to pick up that trailer hitch, Marc, a jar of pickles will be a piece of cake. Or pie. ❤
Another wonderful video! I hope that you two are taking the time, daily, to thank Father God for all your blessings. Many Americans, and also those around the world, are struggling right now, day to day, with a very uncertain future on the horizon. Yet, here you are, enjoying life as though things could not be better. For that, you are incredibly blessed! I don't say that to make you feel anything but happy and joyful that you've found a way to overcome! You inspire so many to keep going! To keep dreaming! To keep praying for that glorious life that we all want! That said, I, personally, have found it and am incredibly appreciative! There was a time in my life when I took these things for granted. But not any more! I've experienced what it's like to live completely free and unbound...and I've experienced the exact opposite. Therefore, in case you hadn't thought of this...be sure to always stay in that place of gratitude...for you have been truly blessed. Thank you for your weekly videos! They truly keep those less fortunate in an inspired place, always dreaming and praying for good things to come! God's continued blessings! 🙏💓
Hello Happy New Year and safe travels. I was wondering where you purchased your protector sleeve for the hitch chain. I could not find it on your Amazon store. I think that is a great idea and a necessary item. Please share. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Welcome back to the USA! Great to be 'on the road again'? Yeah, after an extended break old things turn into new things! Y'all will get into the swing of it in no time, I am sure! Bummer the new hitch doesn't allow you to lower the tailgate while still hitched..Missed it by 'just this much'! LOL Stay safe!
I grew up in Mesa and have lived here most of my life. I know exactly where that Chevron is! I've driven by it so many times and have seen that pie sign, but never stopped. I guess I have to stop now!
We have a 2023 25FBT towing with 2024 Chevy Siverado 2500 diesel with air bags and I have gone through a similar process and have come to exactly the same conclusion. Was crestfallen when you're new hitch came up too short, tailgate fully open is a must have for me, can't wait to see what you find that works, I'm looking as well. Ah, I just figured out what everyone is talking about turning the hitch sideways, will give that a shot. Keep up the good work.
I used to pull a travel trailer and had the same issue with the tailgate clearance. Unfortunately I looked all over for a hitch that was lighter duty and had clearance. You will not find one unless you have one custom built. The rv load level hitches are designed to give you tailgate clearance as well as control. Good liluck to you all.
Welcome back...looks like you had an amazing trip to Paris /Europe. I know not lighter, but I like my WeighSafe trailer hitch because it has a ball that is part of a hydraulic circuit that measures tongue weight realtime.... the accompanying App (after several first time setup dimensions are taken) tells you the final adjustment load to be applied from the weight distribution hitch... I can monitor realtime the tongue weight and adjusted load at each trailer hookup..... Also, not sure if you are able....but my BAL SS 501 stabiliser and tongue jack unit allows for 90 degree control head unit rotation which allows for full tail gate deployment clearance..... Looks like you have it under control... Looking forward to you next new adventure, Happy Holidays.
Marc - I don't know if it's an option, but could you drill a second hole in the receiver 1" closer to the back of the truck? Trish "push this button" Trish "push that button" - lol - Good thing you have Trish! - lol LOVE the old cars and trucks! - Cheers!
Welcome home and back to AZ. Very informed video. Let us know when you get the right hitch length. I really dislike having my tailgate hit the jack and requiring me to lean over and into the truck bed for setting up. We have a Bambi with very little storage meaning a lot of trailer equipment goes into blue boxes in the truck bed. Enjoyed the Paris series, too. Keep Your Program Going! A little pun there, S
Every time your detector in the airstream chirps our Charley shakes and climbs into dad’s lap….. Charley is a 90 lb black lab+ Great Dane mix 🤦♀️ so if you could PLEASE silence the chirp we would greatly appreciate it 😂
Omg…so sorry I didn’t comment on the Paris videos….I loved them!!!! I think you guys should just continue to share your life, we will follow. Wish u the best
I also moved from a hitch that was working well to another. Of course I then had issues, including trailer sway. I hope you don't have the same problems I did!
Wow, something of a wide ranging video... I understand how that happens when you leave the country and come back to get started again. I have actually been there done that and you did much more smoothly than me... Welcome back!!!! Even though I enjoyed France.
"Marc, why don't you just turn the jack sideways??" This is why: th-cam.com/users/shortsdRth_XN6MWA I just can't do it😂
There is surely a therapy group dedicated to RV mods somewhere, that can get you through this jack turning aversion/phobia 😂. Worked great. I'll do it again after getting the tanks filled and loaded up to hit the road.
I loved the Paris trip and Trish following her dream! Thank you!

Hello! Welcome back! Love KYD international.
Love waking up to your uploads, I play them while I get ready in the morning. Sets my day off in a positive way. Thank you!
Welcome back to the USA. So happy Trish got to follow her dream. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. You guys are living the dream. ❤️
Loved this one tonight! Your Paris Adventures was really fun to watch and I loved it, too. Have a great time with your family 🩷
I actually backed the video up because I looked away when the screen in the truck showed what Mark has in his phone for Trish’s name! That has become one of my favorite parts of your videos. I couldn’t stand to miss it. No pressure to come up with great names from now on!
Helloooo KYD Family!! Welcome back to America! The land of the free!!
I really feel for you having to drive I-17 so much! It gets so busy, and the construction lately has been horrid. BUT, the Rock Springs pies are to die for!!!!
@20:54 was the most serious I’ve ever seen Marc. Thought he was gonna actually say a bad word. Gasp!!
Seriously. I agree.
couldn't you feel his pain though? I know EXACTLY what he was thinking.
I have the bulletproof setup with my E4 hitch. I can lower the tailgate on my F250 with our grand design 312BHTS. This thing is heavy. But it’s built to last. Love it.
Welcome home guys. Can't wait to see what's next. Paris was so much fun I loved it!!!
The most enjoyable channel on TH-cam
Thank you!
Your show makes me happy! Thank you!❤
I'm not sure if you read comments on weeks old videos, but I have some thoughts on the hitch.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! 🦃🦃🦃🦃
We are so glad you are back to rving.
I found you guys because of that backing up the trailer video!! ❤
KYD videos are good for the soul!
We had the same issue with our travel trailer and had to find a longer hitch as well
Loving the music on tonight’s video.
Same!
Mark,
Turn the head of the electric Jack 90 degrees. I did this and it solved my problem with the tailgate
I agree. Simple and tailgate opens fully! We did this four years ago and worked perfectly
mine too
Love watching yall and really want yall to know your really lucky to have a partner that loves to travel and live life with you. My wife is a home body and I'm an adventurer so 90% of my adventures are alone. But on bright side is i get to watch the love in yalls eyes as yall explore the world and mostly the U.S.
That’s a bummer, she is lucky and doesn’t know it !
I always stop there and get one of their amazing pies 🥧. Thank you for such a wonderful video!
The Six Million Dollar Man sound effect for Star Link is fantastic! Great job!
Wondered if anyone else would catch that. 😎
Loved the Starlink Sound Effects! (Six Million Dollar Man?)
You got it.
What a fun video ! Love watching you guys and love your Airstream ! Great channel , been watching for years . Safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving !
It's always good to come back home. Wishing you a happy and warm Thanksgiving with all of your family. Be well and enjoy!
As a fellow Arizonian, I always enjoy seeing where you guys are driving as it kind of feels special, you know... a little bit of a connection.
Good evening and Welcome Home KYD.
You should look into the Gen Y hitches. They make a torsion type hitch that would dampen the trailer from the truck and I think it would give you the offset you want to be able to open your tailgate.
glad y'all are back! we were in flagstaff last week... yes it is cold!
You can get a heavy duty reciever extension rated for your trailer. Trailer has them in stock
Enjoying your videos. France was awesome
Thanks!
Welcome back stateside. I live around Sedona and love stopping at Rock Springs for the occasional pie when I’m on 17!
I laughed out loud when you said “I’m not turning this” even though it will work just as well sideways, backwards or even upside down. Not to mention giving you that extra inch of clearance you wanted. But hey, it’s your rig. 😊

If the Rhino doesn't workout. That will be my next move. The Rhino is made in Utah. Just clicked the checkout button.
Yep - same here - hitch put a nice round hole in the bumper of the vehicle that skidded into us. no damage.
Love the B&W but unfortunately I can’t put my tailgate down with it (2019 F250) while hooked to our camper.
Welcome home KYD!

You get what you need.
Glad to know MN still has your pie heart. Love the SPAM lunchbox and am happy to see it every time!
I’m from Louisville, KY. Rocky Mountain Oysters are fantastic if the are cooked right.
Marc, take a look at the shocker hitch. Works with or without weight distribution. We have a 31’ classic and it helped get rid of the porpoising when driving over the bridge decks on the east coast. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 enjoy your family time and thanks for sharing your adventures with the world.
I like the how to videos, especially the trailer hitch stuff.
Thanks. More of that is coming! New hitch was shipped.
Yes to the Rocky Mountain oysters. I’ve added them to my 50 things before I turn 50 list and plan on trying them next summer in Estes Park.
Try Gen-y that's what I use for hauling campers. I'm able to put down tailgate.
YES! Bulletproof hitch! We use that exact same one for our 2019 FC27FBQ on our 2022 RAM 3500 and LOVE IT! I can't get my tailgate down either, but I don't care. It tows, turns and backs great!
Mark wants to avoid the WDH weight however a simple way to extend is adding the Bulletproof Weight Dist Adapter with the Equalizer WDH.
Hello👋🙋♀️👋 as you travel through CaveCreek. I’m glad you got warmed up. Love Rock Springs cafe too

Oh well heckers. I thought you guys were done for a while but now I discover I'm 4 weeks behind.
Should have bought the Anderson It makes a difference.
european is on the left side(steeringwheel) only in the UK they have it on the right
Love your youtube site.
Cring moment when the washing commensed with that brush at the car wash!! 🤣🤣
BTW as far as taking hich off when not towing, in some states law says you have to remove the hitch off.
I've heard that. Maybe I'll ask ChatGBT which ones before installing the new hitch.
Turn your jack! Easy peasy! I have my jack turned, tailgate goes down.
We turned our jack 90 degrees and works perfectly for letting the tailgate down while hitched up.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
Happy Sunday everyone
🏆 This is now becoming the "not a bot" award ;)
@@KeepYourDaydreamI saw that. I promise I am mostly human.
Welcome home. My wife heads to Paris on Monday for 2 weeks
Oh my gosh, We were in site 17 at Cave Creek 3 weeks ago!😮
I can't put my tailgate down either. Supposedly I can turn my jack, but that requires drilling a few holes ... need to find a handyman to help me!
Gary! At the end of the video. I miss Gary!! Bring back Gary!! 🙂
Marc - I don't know if it's an option, but could you drill a second hole in the receiver 1" closer to the back of the truck?
Trish "push this button" Trish "push that button" - lol - Good thing you have Trish! - lol
LOVE the old cars and trucks! - Cheers!
Also you can take the fuse out of your tongue jack to prevent easy theft
Get the pro pride 3P SETUP. Extend the distance between tow vehicle and trailer. You can drop your tailgate
I had the Hensley. Much needed for the Reflection, but I don't miss it. The aistream tracks so straight, I just need a ball.
Get a manual crank jack
Every time your detector in the airstream chirps our Charley shakes and climbs into dad’s lap….. Charley is a 90 lb black lab+ Great Dane mix 🤦♀️ so if you could PLEASE silence the chirp we would greatly appreciate it 😂
Thanks for the video!
