But it's meant to be a good thing.Like they found their identity. They no longer need validation from their group of friends or their parents. At least that's what I understood from it.
Yes, it is sad. But that's a vital part of life. To quote a more intelligent person than myself: "Don't be sad because it's over. Be glad because it happened".
“I can see you getting all bunged up about them making you wear these kinds of clothes, but face it. You’re a neo-maxi zoom dweebie. What would you be doing if you weren’t out making yourself a better citizen?” CLASSIC!!
Now I've heard everything. Calling the most well known and well liked John Hughes movie underrated. I mean, look at its IMDb rating and audience score on RT.
This movie deserved Oscars nominations for Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, Best Film and Best Supporting actor/actress for Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy.
I've always said Paul Gleason should've won something for this. So convincing, whether he was ripping Bender a new one, or just spilling coffee in his office. I bought _every second_ of his portrayal. Show Dick some respect.
I agree with both of you. I think because it was considered a 'teen' film the Academy didn't take it seriously. Dede Allen's editing is also a big reason why the movie works as well as it does.
shit i thought that it was nominated for multiple reasons, it remains popular as of now and it still is one of the most lauded films ever, and it still is highly instrumental too
This movies run time feels like 45 minutes due to its incredibly smooth pacing. Each scene has its own feeling and they all just blend together so well, something a lot of movies have trouble with due to confusing storytelling. This movie just flows perfectly
I think the reason why everyone likes this movie so much is because you can relate to at least one of the characters! I guess I was a combination of Bender and Brian back in high school. I had hair down to the middle of my back, ripped jeans and Heavy Metal t shirt ...I wasn’t smart ..in fact I was probably a straight F student ( that would be a cool band name) ..but I was also a wimp, easily intimidated, nervous, quiet but always had the desire to be smart and do good! My advice is to ask your children what their goals are, remind them of what their goals are and support them every step of the way. I and many others who grew up in the 70s and 80s wish they had that! Stay safe everyone and God Bless John Hughes! Jason White
Are we twins? Dang I've never heard it spelled out so clearly. Probably more like Brian though but perhaps stupidly looked up to John and partly wanted to be more like him but wanted to fuck Allison.
InsideOfMyOwnMind Possibly! But which Alison? The cap n crunch sandwich eating, dandruff art Alison? Or the 80s synthesizer love song Claire make up tutorial Alison? I’ve known too many Claires in my life so I’ve never had the desire to search one out.....
As a writer myself, i love to see the mind of another writer and the frantic words describing tone, character, history, dialogue topics all with single words of small shorthand sentences. i have similar notebooks but until now i never saw anyone else with notebooks like this.
I've never understood how someone can just start writing. But, I know two writers, and they really do just start writing with no clue how the stories going to go until they get there. I have to spend hours just laying out everything I know I want to happen before I start anything. Not doing that seems crazy to me. I'd end up writing nonsense lol.
I personally would like to think that even though they may not be best friends on Monday, they would at least acknowledge each other as they passed in the hallway. I know if I would have gone through what they did I would do as much.
@@Rupert14 Actually no, Claire said Andrew would say Hi to Brian and then cut him up to his friends when Brian left but Andrew denied this by saying "No way" Watch the movie again.
Interesting to see that John already had concepts and ideas on how he can make them all connect with each other and it would be interesting if he stuck to them during the filming.
Wish these movies were posted ! I loved these , The Breakfast Club , 16 Candles , Pretty in Pink and the others . These were awesome actors and actresses , thanks for taking all of us down memory lane .
It's interesting to hear the early notes Hughes made, knowing exactly which bits made it into the movie. As well as knowing which of his early ideas were either totally removed or just tweaked a little as Hughes got further into writing and filming.
I love how the description about the characters are so streotypical like bad boy, Jock or good girl. Coz that's the very first impression of these characters
I can see how you got to that. For me it seemed like more of a relief her being there, but also him being a teenage male and her being pretty and popular may evoke the perception of further feelings.
Everyone says they want to see what happened with the kids on Monday at school. I'd rather see Benders next eight Saturday detentions and how he interacted with the next batches of kids in there. As well as more interactions between he and Vernon. Lol. I'm assuming Vernon didn't have to work detention every single Saturday. It was probably a rotating shift of teachers and principals.
This might be some of the first notes to get the story on paper. It was said that some things were changed, the actors were allowed and encouraged to make suggestions according to the personalities of their characters. Claire was originally Cathy
I’ve been noticing lately that the TH-cam video essays, by people guessing how films are made, are adding to the canon of misinformation. It seems reasonable and helpful, but... after this watch an essay on this film and all you’ll hear is somebody trying to find their place in the world. If it’s not encyclopaedic like this, I think they’d be better to demonstrate their hypotheses, and not have it be like misleading tv news reports l
None of them were "bad" kids; however, the only real "good" kid was Brian. He never took time to deride the others. What he ended up doing was alarming, but at the same time, the kindest of the 5. I have met a lot of Claires. They generally are the "mean" girls. They are NOT good girls. I would have loved Bender (one of my good friends was a female Bender - oh the hellion she was, but with a reason, just like John). I was a good girl, somewhat in between but more a "Brian" type.
John Hughes is a genius. Once in a Generation.
That last bit made me sad... "They come in as five separate people, become friends... leave as five separate people."
But it's meant to be a good thing.Like they found their identity. They no longer need validation from their group of friends or their parents. At least that's what I understood from it.

Yes, i wanted that things could be diferent that what Claire said about monday.
Much like life
Judd Nelson's great performance made this movie a classic.
Tony Montana I agree. Kind love soundtrack. Awesome film movie so funny.
“I can see you getting all bunged up about them making you wear these kinds of clothes, but face it. You’re a neo-maxi zoom dweebie. What would you be doing if you weren’t out making yourself a better citizen?”
CLASSIC!!
Judd Nelson should be doing narrations for film and TV.
yes!!!
@Lady Elizabeth hello Lady E.

The Breakfast Club is probably the first movie that comes to mind when ppl think of the 80s, but it still seems to be so underrated.
The original title was The brunch club

Most screenplay writers I know, dot down ideas on notebooks, so it’s quiet common.
