My goal now is to branching out a bit more to different lakes. My TH-cam channel will attest to my noob-ness! LOL. Anyway, I might give Pyramid a try next week, just to get a "feel" for the lake and hopefully catch something along the way. I made my first trip to Castaic last week and had fun catching a few stripers. Thanks for the video.
Yup - if you time the plant, you can clean up on both planters and the fish that love them. I saw a guy yank a 6lb largemouth out of the docks on such a day. At the same time, people were limiting out on planters in 2' of water.

Thanks man. I'll try it next time. Timing is so important as well. Some years back (before I was really into kayak fishing), I saw a dump truck unload a mound of trout at the Pyramid launch ramp. It was mayhem. People were catching them in ankle-deep water using bass plastics. One guy hooked into a 7 lb largemouth as well.

Hi, for freshwater, i typically go with 15lb braid. To be honest, i'm not really an accomplished freshwater bass guy, but it seems the serious largie fishermen gravitate toward Castaic, which makes it a little busier. The Striper fisherman may gravitate toward Pyramid, i think. In general, Pyramid is a more mellow scene. If you are a striper guy, i've been told the topwater bite is good during late Spring and Late Fall. But take everything i say with a grain of salt, please.
I so wanted to make it to this even got some of my gear & tackle together then I pulled/tore a abdominal muscle the Wednesday before and Dr. said nope your getting rest and muscle relaxers then a tooth extraction Friday... needless to say I'd rather been on the water. But on the plus side being home and shopping local online sales I picked up a Perception Pescadore 12 Pilot out in La Quinta so I can venture out of the harbors now lol. Trout usually don't hold to structure they patrol near shore in schools looking for food but they will hold still near inlets and outlets waiting for food to drift to them. Larger trout will hang in deeper water solo looking for food, see a lot of guys trolling the deep with cannon ball sinkers at Convict lake or Lake Irvine when they allowed boats.
Nice on the yak purchase! Your advice sounds spot on. I'm guessing the large "long" streaks in deeper water were big trout. I'm guessing the big "lumpy" marks near the river inlet were maybe....carp? Shame about the timing - they shut down the lake when the bite started to turn on, it seems. But on balance, ocean is more fun :)
hi, they are not worried about ocean-to-freshwater contamination. they are worried about freshwater-to-freshwater. just make sure the inside of your kayak is bone-dry.
@@Frank020 hi, i totally get the ideal of launching in quiet areas. there may be other launch areas, but Pyramid is not very crowded (typically), and the launch ramp is so wide and the parking is plentiful, so i'm not sure trying to lug and launch an inflatable elsewhere is worth the extra credit work and hassle.

Dude pyramid lake is Federal lake and they own the water rights for Los Angeles county DWP it’s water that comes out of your faucet. They also lease the water to Castaic lake down the hill to run the generators on the third lake above Castaic. On your way home get off templin hwy make a left and fallow the road. There is no confrontation people who stand in line actually they are friendly the boaters are not bad people they just want to fish. For your info the lake is always empty in the winter summer is busy.

Chrome kastmaster kills those stripers. And I wouldn’t hesitate throwing a colt sniper white 21-28g or hookup bait.

Yes - I'd agree that on balance, the vast majority of the people I meet outdoors have been very cool people and share a "kindred spirit" approach.
