I was wondering what happened to Live Love Polish! I agree that Holo Taco was the best of the bunch. I love their linear formula so much. Also, I think the word you were looking for was diffuse.
LLP is Mooncat, you are correct. They have a color called Moonflower which is their silver linear holo. Not sure if they changed the formula. Great video! I really enjoyed your comparisons and your suggestions.
OMG thank you for saying this. I had no idea how I got on their mailing list or why I was following them. I guess I just missed out that they were changing names.
This is a wonderful comparison! I feel like with silver linear holos, it's a matter of preference and I like scattered holo the best. I'm indoors a lot for work and the only time I'm really in the sun is when I go for a short walk or when I'm driving so I can't appreciate linear holos as much as I like. On the other hand, scattered holos look good in any lighting since the larger holo glitters catch the light at any angle so that your nails always sparkle. It's so crazy to see how holo polishes have transformed over the years. My first holographic polish was Crystal Ball from Sally Hansen xD It looked soooooo pretty but it was a nightmare to apply. Nowadays, the formulas are great and it's just how you like it :D
I agree about the scattered finish. It definitely looks sparklier more of the time than a straight up linear holo. I’m going to have to Google that Sally Hansen! I am thankful formulas have improved too 😅
ILNP Mega (L) (as opposed to (X)) is the first indie nail polish I ever bought - which was very recently. I adore it. I'm so glad I took the plunge. Mega (L) looks totally different from (X), it has a very fine, very linear pigment. It still needs 3 coats though. I am very impatient for summer to arrive so I can wear it in the sun!!
I think I had (L) at some point but must have gotten rid of it. It is a really nice linear holo like you say. And yes - summer can't come soon enough so we can wear our holos and see the rainbows popping off our nails.
Late to this - I’ve noticed that you always have some type of blouse or top on that seems very unique. Love your top game. The one you are wearing here is no exception. I’m more into the scattered holo look as well - more so than linear. I love the ILNP one. I have their My Private Rainbow X, which is very sheer and delicate when worn alone. I guess the hype around the Mega X is real. So pretty. Im definitely putting this on my list for this year’s Black Friday. BTW - yes, you do resemble Princess Diana!
This is such a fantastic comparison! I'm with you, I definitely prefer scattered holo to linear. If you don't have any of them, you should try any of the Dance Legend Wow Prisms, they're some of my favorite polishes I own.
I have We Trippy by Cirque Colors and was hopping you were gonna show it, but you don’t have it. Although I’m gonna take a look at ILNP Mega X. Thanks for the comparison ❤
I purchased my first silver holo in 2006- OPI designer series "DS010 Sapphire'. It's 16 years old but I kept it in dark, low temp and it applies like new! It looks exactly like the ones you showed today. I remember it was on the expensive side, and I think it pre-dated the Chanel attempt at holos.
Thanks so much for this comparison! I hace CC Subculture so I didn't think I needed any other silver holo, but now I think I may have to pick up HT or the ILNP one.
My favorite silver holo is ILNPs Mega X, I do love Harp on It from Color Club but I love the Ultra Holo formula from ILNP. Polish Me Silly makes a great silver called Chasing Rainbows
I have cirque's crushed ice and ur totally right, it looks very similar to the Diana polish. My first holo was fairy dust by china glaze 🥺 definitely started my love for everything holographic. Right now I have crushed ice, ILNP mega L and rosewater (it's silver holo with pink shimmer and it's currently my favorite). Might have to pickup that starily shade 👀

I would argue that the true OG silver holo is Sally Hansen Magical Nail Makeup in Crystal Ball. That was the first time I ever saw a linear holo polish. I was in college so that would have been 2002. I still have one of the three bottles I bought. Edit to add: It's crazy to think I have a bunch of polishes that are now considered 'Vintage'. Like this one.
I googled it! It’s beautiful 🤩 I’m realizing now I saw it on blogs years ago. And recall people going “dusty hunting” to find “vintage” polishes. Maybe I’ll be so lucky one day at Goodwill or Value Village.
@@FrancesBaconandEggs It was a very unique formula. I think that's why they called it "Nail Makeup" instead of polish or lacquer. It was thin, but gave full coverage in 1 or 2 coats. But you had one day, tops, before it was flaking on the tips. But that strange thin formula had a side benefit. I could dab on a retouch straight from the bottle and it would look seamless when it dried down. So yeah they'd be a little chipped, but in the morning before I drive to work, I'd do a fast retouch and when I got to work they'd be dry and flawless looking. This is why I owned three bottles. Sadly, my last remaining bottle was dried out and I didn't have the heart to throw it away, I added a ton of Orly Nail Polish thinner to it and *miracles* it was revived.... but it dulled the Holo. It's still holo, but very subtle now. But even so... I'll never let that bottle go. My OG Silver Holo.
@@FrancesBaconandEggs Compared to modern holos: It was extremely comparable to HoloTaco Circuit Breaker. When I bought that shade and put it on my nails I felt like I'd gone back in time. (Edit to add) It was a true linear holo. Almost like a chrome finish, but not quite.
Totally in camp scattered/static holo, as well. I really want the ILNP Mega, I think they have a few in the mega range, don't they? Anyways.... Xoxo love your videos!
Harp On It was my very first holo polish. I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread! 😄 Also, love the shirt! It’s so appropriate for this video.
My first Holo which happened to be silver was China Glaze 'OMG' many years ago. They might still make it but it's hard to find. Now I buy most of my holos from ILNP.
May I make a constructive suggestion: invest in a Halogen desk lamp for photographing swatches. Halogen bulbs very closely duplicate sunlight. It can help you show off how some polishes look different in sun vs diffused indoor light.
@@CaitlinSwatches Some lamps use LED 'Halogen' bulbs. But those are basically halogen in style only and don't give off the same pin-point light or the same light temperature as the sun. LED 'halogen' lamps will still be a diffused light. I discovered this when I tried to find a new halogen lamp on amazon for my photography studio (I do product photography). The listing would say they're a halogen lamp, but digging into the description and it would be an LED bulb. True halogens are incandescent.
Now I am going to pick your brain. Is a bulb like “GE Bright White 35 W Halogen Directional Floodlight PAR16 Light Bulb” what I should be looking for? If so, that’s the kind I’m using. I have been trying to find the right bulbs forever so I appreciate your help!
@@CaitlinSwatches I had to Google it quick to be sure how they describe the bulb, and Yes, that would be what to look for. I can't tell in their product shots if the glass on the front of the bulb is clear or frosted. If it's frosted, that will difuse the light and negate what we're going for in showing off the sparkle like sunlight does.
This is a super late comment, but I wonder how the old Live Love Polish holo compares to Moonflower by Mooncat (LLP rebranded)? Have you tried Mooncat?
I haven’t actually tried the brand but another viewer said that Mooncat Moonflower is much more holo and opaque than Casting Call. They said it was pretty close to the Holo Taco. Hope that helps!
Apparently I have to get Circuit Breaker. (I don't have any Holo Tacos. Don't tell Cristine!) I do have Mega X and the first time I wore it, it blew my mind! And now you have wanting Casting Call and Diana ... and maybe Magic Rainbow too? Sighhh. Also, as far as straight silver linear holos go, you should try Vapid Cryogenic Refrigerant!
Honest question, and probably dumb but I’m just getting into painting my nails and ..well..the top coat is so thick when you put it on, does it actually fully dry? I thought things had to be as thin as possible so it would dry fully.
Getting Celanaste polish is a pain: I dunno if their EU stockist Hypnotic Polish will stock more of their stuff, and the brand’s own website barely has anything in stock. Their stuff is so good tho 😣 I own ILNP (S) which is supposedly the most holographic out of all their silver upload and I love it!! About the static effect, ILNP Lighthouse might not dupe Celanaste, but it’s very glittery and has the static effect too-in some lighting, you even see flecks of black that give off the static effect even more! Can’t wait to try Starrily, it looks so good. Tfs xxx
I hear you about Celanaste! I wish it was easier to access because I do like their polish. And I will definitely check out ILNP (S) and Lighthouse. Thank you for those recommendations!!
@@CaitlinSwatches I really like ILNP’s Cozy Mittens too, it’s a champagne linear holo with golden flecks, and it looks very pretty both indoors and outdoors. 🥰 ty for the beautiful swatches!!
I would say no. The best top coat to use with a holo is a water-based top coat and then apply a quick dry top coat. That will ensure the holo is not dulled. I experience minimal dulling of holo with Cuticula Limitless top coat. It works so well with holos. And the base doesn’t matter in my experience. Any base will do.
@@CaitlinSwatches thank you so much I didn’t think it mattered a whole lot but was curious . I looked up the top coat you use and I like how it looks in your videos, I considered buying some holo taco polishes so I thought about getting their top coat! Hope it’s good too, looks like they have a few 🤷🏽♀️
I hope you don’t mind me asking but what camera do you use to film? The way you picked up holo in this video - I can see like every pigment! Beautiful video!
There will never ever EVER be a silver hologram rainbow bouncing polish like OPI's "Paris Couture For Sure". Nothing comes close. It's from about 2005 holiday collection. I found more of it on ebay for $39.00 a bottle! But, nothing compares. I have alot of other brands, too.
I'm curious what you think of ILNP's line of Ultra Holo polishes. I've found the most blinding holo effects from the polishes from that line. Park Ave, for example, is so intense that sometimes I can't even see the green underneath the rainbow effect. Edit: I see some people on reddit claiming that top coats dull holo effects. But I personally have never experienced. I'm thrilled to see you using top coats here, lol. How do you feel about that "top coats dull holo effects" stuff? Also, I always have to do three coats with ILNP polishes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@CaitlinSwatches I would definitely love to see and hear your analysis of some polishes from their Ultra Holo line one day. Sadly, they don't seem to have any pure silver Ultra Holos - hopefully that changes soon as I'm sure it'd be blinding. Sticks and Stones is close as it's grey. And then they have a few blues that could scan as sorta silver, like First Snow and also Park Place. Sticks and Stones is apparently a linear Ultra Holo as well. Def looking to pick that one up soon. Thanks for your reply!
I love your swatches. May I ask what top coat you use? Also, I found with holo taco they never seem to dry enough for me. It’s crazy. Does that happen to you?
Thank you!!! I use Glisten and Glow top coat or my latest favourite and fastest drying is Cuticula Limitless. They’re amazing. And work great with the HT I have.
Live Love turning into Moon Cat is super helpful to know if thats true. I've been getting ads for them like crazy on social media but haven't been interested because they clearly use filters in their videos which to me is super deceiving and defeats the purpose of showing off nail polish.
My skin kinda crawled at that color club formula. That's.... kinda actually terrible at how thin and watery it applies. And it is 1,000% OK to be super critical when it comes to holo. You have to be with so many companies still lying to us about what is holo just so they can make some money. At first, that great lakes one looks like a reflective polish with holo flakes. That ILNP one is horrible with it's description. It's more of a topper then anything. You have to apply 3+ coats or sponge it on to get a good coverage and get that "x10 holo" or however they described it. I feel they're misleading customers with that description.
All holos are definitely not created equally! I definitely expect brands to accurately describe their polishes. I am hoping the Color Club formula is just because it’s almost a decade old. Others say their recent bottles are not at all like how mine applied.
It looks to me like Holo Taco is the most densely packed with true linear pigment. Neat comparison!

I would love if you would do nail stamping reviews
I can't stamp to save my life haha Maybe I will practice and get good enough to make a video one day.
Thanks ❤
Harp On It was my very first holo polish. I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread! 😄 Also, love the shirt! It’s so appropriate for this video.
Thank you!! And yes that polish was the greatest thing since sliced bread. It blew my mind 🤯
Holo taco and ILNP my faves. And I loved the comparison on the nail swatch sticks. Also you are much more pretty than Lady Diana 😊
The sticks were a good way to compare.
Haha thank you!
My first Holo which happened to be silver was China Glaze 'OMG' many years ago. They might still make it but it's hard to find. Now I buy most of my holos from ILNP.
I remember those China Glaze! They rereleased them but changed the formula. I know the original was SUPER HOLO.
I like scattered better unless I just want a deliberate rainbow.
My fave silver holo is Jinx by Tonic. It's amazing.
Ooh I will have to look into that one!
My bottle of Harp on It isn’t thin, I use it for stamping and it’s pretty much a one coater!
It must be because mine is so old. Or maybe they changed the formula since I bought it in 2013?
@@CaitlinSwatches I think my bottle was bought around 2016 or 17
@@TheNailPolishHound interesting!
May I make a constructive suggestion: invest in a Halogen desk lamp for photographing swatches. Halogen bulbs very closely duplicate sunlight. It can help you show off how some polishes look different in sun vs diffused indoor light.
Interesting!! I used to use one but it didn’t give the effect I wanted. Maybe I just had a bad one. I’ll have to do some research. Thanks
That’s so helpful. I will have to pay close attention to whatever I purchase.
I had a decent amount of Color Club nail polishes. But I ended up getting rid of most of them. I feel they were way too dull compared to Holo Taco
Yes HT definitely wins compared to others when it comes to the strength of the holo.
Oooh I have heard about the Vapid. I will look into it. You will love the Holo Taco! The formula is amazing.
My favorite one was ILNP Mega (X)
That one is truly gorgeous!
Love the live love- but I’m totally on board with the staticky Ilnp.
That one is amazing! So holo!
Perfect swatch video! I love your energy 💕
Thank you so much 😊💜
Honest question, and probably dumb but I’m just getting into painting my nails and ..well..the top coat is so thick when you put it on, does it actually fully dry? I thought things had to be as thin as possible so it would dry fully.
If your top coat is thick it might be getting old. You can thin it or try a new bottle.
Essie Rock Your World is similar to these.
Yes I'm in the scattered camp with you, I think they just look more holo than the linear formula.
Yes! Totally. Scattered all the way!
I…kind of really need that shirt. Do you know if it’s still available somewhere???
I got it at Marshall’s. The brand is Bershka
What is your thought on base and top coats when using Holographic polishes do you need to stay with that brands base and top coat?
@@CaitlinSwatches what do you put over their top coat? Anything? Or just the one you mentioned?
I hope you don’t mind me asking but what camera do you use to film? The way you picked up holo in this video - I can see like every pigment! Beautiful video!
I’m happy to answer that! I use AN ANCIENT DSLR. It’s a Canon T2i Rebel with a macro lens. I got it in 2010 😂 Thank you!
@@CaitlinSwatches thank you so much!!
Wow. I will have to check it out and see if I can find a bottle!
I have yet to try their Ultra holos. They do look really intense so I might have to check one or two out!
I prefer Cirque to HT. HT is too gummy and doesn’t dry for me, even with Glisten and Glow top coat. But I prefer scattered to straight linear.
I will agree that the Cirque formula is easier to apply than the HT. And scattered is definitely my favourite!
If Circuit Breaker didn’t come in first place, I think Cristine would lose her mind 🤣
I'm glad that won't be happening haha
Also your outfit is perfect! Is it a dress? Or a top? Or a disco pantsuit?
I wish it was a disco pantsuit! It's a very cropped top lol
I think that Starrily needs to be in my collection but then again I like the ILNP too!!! Oh no... I think the no-buy is over already LOL!
Nooooo haha. I am trying to buy less but I always get sucked in
I love your swatches.
@@CaitlinSwatches thank you 😊
Live Love turning into Moon Cat is super helpful to know if thats true. I've been getting ads for them like crazy on social media but haven't been interested because they clearly use filters in their videos which to me is super deceiving and defeats the purpose of showing off nail polish.
I was able to confirm that LLL is now Moon Cat. I didn’t know that about the filters - I definitely want to see polish without a filter!
Thank you! I love this, and I love your shirt! It would be perfect if you dressed as a cute robot for Halloween! 🤖
Thank you so much! Haha that is a very cute idea. I could use my silver eyeshadow and definitely wear silver holo nail polish.
Gurl! I love what you’re doing, that’s why I’m going to ask you to cut the audio when you’re doing voice overs. PLEASE!❤️❤️❤️
What does that mean? LOL
@@CaitlinSwatchesit sounded shady but I meant that you don’t have to make a long take, you can cut and edit it❤️❤️🙈
I'm more of a fan of scattered Holo it's got more of a wow factor.
Completely agree!
You should have said you were living a 2001 Zenon fantasy
Believe it or not, that is actually what I meant to say but the show name escaped my brain.
That is such a cute shirt and it suits you well. It’s not at all funny looking 🙋🏼♀️
Thank you so much 💕💕💕
I don’t like speckled look… I like powder smooth metallic look
Yay!! 🌈💿💕
