I am 66 yrs old and weigh 250+. Yesterday my wife and I rode our new XPremiums up a 7 mile mountain road. Very steep for at least 6 miles of it. We wouldn't have been able to do the first quarter mile on our regular bicycles. It was hard and about half way up it was kicking my old ass but we persevered and we made it! Downhill on the way back was pretty scary as we had to ride the brakes for most of it! Thank God for hydraulics! Did a total of 14.8 miles. Just checked the battery level on both bikes this morning. I was down 3 bars and the wife was down 2. I also had a 10 lb dog in a front milk crate on mine. It was hard but awesome. If you don't think an ebike is a workout I challenge you to try the road from the Ocoee Ranger station to the Hiwassee campground in SE Tennessee!

For anybody really interested in this Mid Drive,
& as somebody that owns one,
    One user's Review:
If you want a zippy fast bike get something else.
    Not really for city delivery.
(unless they update the software or gearing, anyways)
Barely lifetable with the batteries in it, you are not getting this up a flight of stairs easily
your throttle won't save you on a steep hill if you weren't geared properly in advance
trying to late to downshift at at the base of a big hill may snap a chain on a mid drive
if you are smaller and run out of steam on a hill this heavy beast will fall over on you
if you break the chain you better have a breaker & links or AAA because you can't pedal it like a broken chain on a hub drive
Pedaling is more of a necessity on a mid drive, not an afterthought...like hub drives.
_(I got mine for really cheap from somebody that didn't understand this,
    fwiw)_
    *But*
If you want exercise and range
and can operate gears consistently at stops & before hills
and like turning & accelerating at the same time, smoothly....
are willing to do a few upgrades like a KMX chain
    Then this is your bike.
It is very solid and can pedal up a very very steep 110 foot hill in gear one PAS 5, sitting down.
The Truck Run motor is quiet and smooth and carries weight easily
I love the throttle on the right hand side like it's freakin supposed to be.
I put a white GT Mallet front load BMX stem &
white demolition BMX 10 inch rise bars and it looks and rides 100% better imho.
Black milk crate can bolt right to the stock rack with some washers.
(milk crates are strong & light & stackable fwiw)
Mine handles hands free even while pedaling,
but that took some work to attain.
the longer wheelbase & good tires at the right pressure helps
Vee e speedsters with tannis liners and this thing rolls up on everything silently albeit slightly squishily.
Brakes are dead quiet and are still bedding nicely
wish I was riding it right now
    Hope this helps

Any recommendations on the chain? I'm able to find 7speed KMC chains, but haven't seen much talk about what chains are appropriate on a mid-drive.
edit: stumbled into a worthwhile gem-

The storm clouds I saw in this video reminded me that I would love for you to include whether a bike is weatherproof. It is easy, especially in FL, to get caught in a sudden downpour and it would be nice to know if a bike is capable of operating in such conditions or will it short and shut down on you?

    @Waltkat 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I just ordered one of these because it's on sale for $1,399 with free shipping. Another reason I bought it is because of the mid drive. I've ridden hub motor ebikes and don't care for them because they don't do well on hills and their power delivery with peddling is a little hurky jerky. The one thing I'm wondering is if a Bafang 1000W mid drive will fit. If it does, I wouldn't have to worry about upgrading the motor controller since it's built into the drive itself.

I pre-ordered mine, and have racked up >400 miles on my commute of 34 miles (round trip). been able to average anywhere from 14-17 mph on those rides (stoplights suck & headwinds _blow_ ). I like this bike, and sure as hell wouldn't be able to pull this off without it. The torque sensor is pleasantly responsive in PAS 3,4,&5. I rarely use gear 7, and in the one spot I do, I can routinely hit 27mph with 200lbs me and up to 25lbs of gear.
Also I wear a Kali Invader 2.0- protect your jaw!
The batteries charge unequally, meaning I plug in the main after I get home, and the vertical battery once the main shows green (sometime in the middle of the night). PAS 1 genuinely feels like it impedes momentum more than assists, gear 3 is sticky up & down. And I'm sad that one of the buckles on my pannier ripped off already.
Bellyaches aside, still my favorite ride!

I have the same issue with 3rd, the best I could get it to was a soft knocking sound now.
I have to spend some time adjusting it but I am wondering if a shimano chain, cassette & derailleur wouldn't solve it.
I sure hope a software update for the controller is rolled out.

We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

This bike was really easy to assemble th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

I'm not sure if you are making fun of the question or genuinely asking it. So I'll assume it's a genuine question. Hills are the reason. I know a lot of Americans ride in perfectly flat areas, but many other people have to contend with hills. So a derailleur is a must, even for an ebike.
