its amazing how ShB drops just enough hints to make you go crazy and know what happened with the other scions before you arrive, but not enough to spoil the story. this trailer is a masterpiece in every aspect.
Ever since I finished Shadowbringers I get emotional whenever I see the trailer again. So much forshadowing in it and the theme just gets to me every time. ALSO after seeing this so many times I just now realized the job changes in the fight follow the order of the story 1.0 Archer, 2.0 Warrior, 3.0 Dragoon, and 4.0 Monk/Samurai.
Same here. If I didn't have any neighbours to mind I'd be belting out "RIDING HOOOME" at the top of my lungs every single time. Alas, a few tears of joy and rememberance in the corners of my eyes will have to suffice.
This trailer is still the best out of all of them. It hits you right in the feels. And watching it back after having finished the MSQ it only intensifies that feeling.

She is better in endwalker the story, but her growth is nowhere near that of Alphinaud's. I have never had interest in hot headed characters in anime/manga/games of her type. They have irritated me for over 30 years.
I don't know... Endwalker music didn't do it for me... The sad music felt weak compared to the slow piano of Shadowbringers, the "hype" music felt out of place sometimes, and the vocals in the final zone coming before the walk kinda ruined it.

The zone music for old Sharlayan is amazing, the zone music for Mare Lamentorum, the music for the final zone, especially without the vocals... incredibly atmospheric. Maybe not the same energy as Raktika or the same weird energy as the music for the first trial in ShB, but really good. I just wish the female vocal from the EW trailer had been part of a much longer song that had that same beautiful energy. Instead it's just that verse.

I agree. The theme itself, plus Amaurot, then the final battle in this expansion, fucking hell, it was amazing. For Endwalker, I like the Sharlayan theme, and the theme being a culmination of all the game's previous expansions together. Still though, SHB will always hold a special place in my heart.
I love how they change a weird name (warrior of darkness) and make it something really fitting and honestly a bit sad in the context of Shb. Its so cool
Is Warrior of Darkness is that weird of the name? As a non native English speaker, it always sound quite ordinary to me both in English and in Japanese so I'm surprised when I saw streamers laughing at it.

Warriors of Darkness were mentioned once in FF III as something that happened in the very distant past before the game began, and was never really elaborated upon since. Cecil being a Dark Knight wasn't really the same thing as Warriors of Darkness saving the world from an abundance of light. That's one of the reasons why as a long time FF fan and someone who loves FF III, Shadowbringers was so exciting. Finally, after 20-30 years we were getting the story of the Warriors of Darkness. Something that felt major about the lore but never before explored to its full potential.
@@GetterRay Warriors of Darkness were mentioned in 3, 4 and the mobile game Dimensions. A few games have had both Crystals of Light and Crystals of Darkness. Balance between Light and Dark has been an ongoing thing in a lot of the stories.
Damn, every time I watch this trailer I get more hyped for Shadowbringers even having played all the way through the MSQ lol. Just a great cinematic that really had you going WTF is going on, wait what? Perfect really.
It means so much more to us that have experienced it, the hype then and the goosebumps now and Endwalker so far has my jaw on the floor most days, wife and i have experienced FF 14 from the start, we both cant control our emotions around anything in this game lol.
One of my favorite things about the Shadowbringers trailer is watching Derplander actually have to struggle, and seeing him basically get smashed while pulling out all of the stops with switching from job to job. It is a good metaphor/allegory for the journey through the expansion.
I don't think the Shadowbringers trailer will ever be topped for me. Everything about it is so perfect, the music, the job changes, the cinematics and story, and when it starts playing Eternal Wind I tear up. It's such an emotional experience seeing.
I've been done with Endwalker and I still get goosebumps watching this trailer. Preach is in for one hell of a wild ride in his Shadowbringers journey! And wild it certainly will be!

Honestly, it's a little disappointing when you really get into it in-game. It's not Matoya; Y'shtola is just using her name It's not Minfilia, but just someone named after her (yeah, there's a bit more to it, but still) We don't actually change sides to be a true Warrior of Darkness; we're just called that in the first because we eat light aether.
The great thing about this trailer is that it leaves you questioning so many things. New characters, old characters, new plots, old plots, new areas, old areas, etc. Then when you actually finish playing Shadowbringers, you are left in awe on what a journey it was.
This was a fantastic react compared to most streamers who feel the need to talk over it and end up missing parts. Some things are just so perfectly crafted that they speak for themselves, and for all the times I've seen this trailer it still gets me every time. Just watching his face was more than enough.
Was just about to write something along those lines. I don't watch Preach at all but that was a very nice reaction video. He doesn't feel the need to comment everything with "That's cool!" or "Wow" and just sits there and has genuine reactions. Love it

Lol nah. I didnt liked SHB... all other parts of FF XIV were better. Im now in Endwalker hoping its better. The Transition into Endwalker makes SHB better bot by far not the best. Its extremly poor written sadly.

This trailer is still 10/10. I remember the first time they showed it off at a fan fest and it just melted everyone's brains. We waited for a long while for it to come out. And boy howdy, did it deliver in spades.
There's so much good to this trailer but there's one thing that gets me every time. When the camera slows down at the Viera dancer, it feels like a small fourth wall break because she gets a little smirk and her eyes turn to look directly at the camera knowingly.
The Dark Knight part is just /chef's kiss That trailer single handedly made me go back to playing 14, buy the whole thing, sub, finish the previous expansions, and SHB in under two months.

I agree! I think Endwalker did exactly what they set out to do in wrapping up the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga, and it was brilliant, but I preferred the tone/themes of Shadowbringers more.
Ugh! Tough call!!!! I loved HW, ShB and EW, each in their own way. HW because... dragons, and all the game of thrones vibes it gives, ShB is just epic and a feels rollercoaster, but EW... is the cherry on top that just gives you a bittersweet / satified yet crushed feeling of accomplishment after all you've been through, especially with what is going on with COVID, it was just the perfect timing to drop that expansion.
I don’t know why, but I enjoyed Shadowbringers the least out of all the expansions. Only thing I really liked was Emet-Selch. I feel like I am missing something. Why is it you guys like Shadowbringers so much?

You know, preach is experiencing shadowbringers in a way none of the people who played it at the time did. We knew so much just from live letters and fanfests about the basic premise. He's going in completely blind...
I wish I could erase my memories and play it all over again. Though I am very privileged to have binged all of FF14 from ARR to Endwalker in just a few weeks ( started in November, finished EW at the end of December ) Probably the best story and NPC followers I've ever seen in a game. I always get chills at the Minfilia reveal. People were SOBBING during the initial reveal trailer.
What he's saying at the start about not knowing what ShB is about is exactly how I felt about it, we knew we were heading to Ishgard at the end of ARR's extra msq because of where it was headed, we knew we were heading to Ala Mhigo at the end of HW's extra msq too, but we have literally know idea what's going to happen leading up to ShB. I had someone in my FC at the time try to explain to me what's going to happen when I mentioned it and I was like "My bro, this is all entirely based on stuff we learned out of the game" and was so confused thinking I, personally, didn't know what was coming instead of catching on what I meant lol
If I had to rate each expansion on a scale of 1-10, it'd be: A Realm Reborn: 6/10 Heavensward: 8/10 Stormblood: 7/10 Shadowbringers: 10239/10 Endwalker: 9/10 As you can see, it's not even fucking close. Shadowbringers was, and continues to be, in a league of its own.

Warriors of Light and Warriors of Darkness have been a consistent plot point in a lot of the earlier FF games.

That trailer single handedly made me go back to playing 14, buy the whole thing, sub, finish the previous expansions, and SHB in under two months.

Best expansion ever. I still get emotional and chills watching this trailer. I loved Endwalker but for me Shadowbringers is still the highlight of FFXIV for me. So many good memories.
I agree! I think Endwalker did exactly what they set out to do in wrapping up the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga, and it was brilliant, but I preferred the tone/themes of Shadowbringers more.
Ugh! Tough call!!!! I loved HW, ShB and EW, each in their own way. HW because... dragons, and all the game of thrones vibes it gives, ShB is just epic and a feels rollercoaster, but EW... is the cherry on top that just gives you a bittersweet / satified yet crushed feeling of accomplishment after all you've been through, especially with what is going on with COVID, it was just the perfect timing to drop that expansion.
I don’t know why, but I enjoyed Shadowbringers the least out of all the expansions. Only thing I really liked was Emet-Selch. I feel like I am missing something. Why is it you guys like Shadowbringers so much?
Whole game aside, if you watch the trailer reactions, Preach's hair makes a bigger comeback than the game itself
Him not saying anything much during the trailer really shows he respects what is going on now. Glad he's serious about it even if semi-serious
He's also got some really good predictions there at the end. That's what happens when you make an enjoyable story with characters people get invested in.
It's hard to remain cynical and aloof with FFXIV, everyone catches feelings eventually.

Originally when I saw the cinematic, yeah it was cool and all but I never really felt anything too strongly about it one way or another. And then I played Shadowbringers...
I'm so glad I waited til partway through shadowbringers to watch the trailer. There's some plot twists that are just tossed away in the cinematic that I'm glad I got to see for the first time while playing

Seeing his reaction to the trailer was really fun for me. I remember, vividly, my own immense confusion when I first watched it, which was then followed quickly by intense speculation and theorizing. It's my favorite video game trailer of all time.

I haven't beat this expansion yet but after watching the trailer again there is so much story being told without you even realizing. I can't wait to go back and watch it again after I complete the Shadowbringers MSQ.

The best part about people watching the trailer is when chat spams HOOOME when the chorus kicks in and BOOBA when the dancer bunny is shown.

I wish I could erase my memories and play it all over again. Though I am very privileged to have binged all of FF14 from ARR to Endwalker in just a few weeks ( started in November, finished EW at the end of December )
Probably the best story and NPC followers I've ever seen in a game. I always get chills at the Minfilia reveal. People were SOBBING during the initial reveal trailer.
What he's saying at the start about not knowing what ShB is about is exactly how I felt about it, we knew we were heading to Ishgard at the end of ARR's extra msq because of where it was headed, we knew we were heading to Ala Mhigo at the end of HW's extra msq too, but we have literally know idea what's going to happen leading up to ShB. I had someone in my FC at the time try to explain to me what's going to happen when I mentioned it and I was like "My bro, this is all entirely based on stuff we learned out of the game" and was so confused thinking I, personally, didn't know what was coming instead of catching on what I meant lol
Endwalker trailer is really good, but the Shadowbringers trailer is just smth else entirely. It'll always be my fav.

As you can see, it's not even fucking close. Shadowbringers was, and continues to be, in a league of its own.
