    How do you mount your redundant pony bottle or bailout cylinder?

    I'm newly cert open water.I do have to admit,I like the pony setup idea even for 40'-60' rec diving.Hell you never know what your "buddy" may be doing or at.I love the idea of being able to rely on myself.

      I've been diving with the Xs Scuba mount and it works ok, a bit tedious to put on so I am thinking of switching to the shark system. How would the shark system fit with boat diving where a lot of the tanks are slotted into round tank holder. Would the shark bottom bracket still let you slot your main tank into those boat round tank slot? Thank you

    I really like this setup but I would probably look into rubber dipping the top to protect my tank values

      James that’s a good idea. I wrapped the top portion of the shark at them Ty at the valve with rubber take. So far it’s holding out well. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!

    How do you manage the extra length of the metal band after tightening the Jubilee clamp? Having them stick out may be an entanglement hazard.

    So in this installation, the pony bottle valve is always turned on? Unlike a side sling? I want a bailout, but as you mentioned I carry a big photo setup, and generally want my hands free.

    • @everythingscuba
      @everythingscuba  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, once I turn on my main cylinder I turn on and pressurize the redundant system also. A side slung cylinder could be turned on or off easily since it’s in front of you. In this case with a back mounted system it would be difficult to turn on in this position. Some divers may carry their pony bottle upside down with the valve pointed outward so they could reach back and turn it on if necessary. I personally prefer to leave it turned on. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching!

    Hi Fantastic set of Videos, on the pony mount video how do you compensate for the weight and balance of the pony bottle ? sorry its probably a rookie question. !!!

    What do you think about Sharks PSD pony bottle attachment system? It seems like it is more versatile than the pony bottle mount in the video as it offers the best of both worlds. Easy to remove the pony bottle and regs under water for a diver in need as well as still perfect for solo diving. Thanks, Bobby

    If you are adding all that extra gear why not just run independent doubles? I prefer side slung with a simple stage sling, that way i can see what's going on with it or ditch/hand off if necessary. COG seems awful on the back like that.

    • @everythingscuba
      @everythingscuba  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For solo diving, there would be no need to hand off a tank. Also having it back mounted for photographers or videographers works more conveniently since they may have a large camera rig to deal with also. This would provide a simple bailout mechanism if needed for a solo diver and when mounted it is barely even noticeable underwater. Generally subtracting 3 pounds of weight from the pony bottle side helps rectify trim. Side sling stage bottles are certainly a great option. But we simply wanted to give an overview of various ways to backmount a pony bottle if desired. Each diver has their own likes and dislikes. Thanks for your comments and thanks for watching.

    Great video, I love your channel. Mounting the pony on the side of your primary tank does it affect your balance or buoyancy?

    • @everythingscuba
      @everythingscuba  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve, thanks for your very kind words. So yes, having a pony bottle on your back or even side slung will throw off your buoyancy and you need to offset the weight of the pony bottle. Generally most people find that removing 2-3 pounds of weight from the same side that you are wearing the pony bottle corrects their trim and balance.
      Thanks for your question and thanks for watching!

      I just put a trim weight on the other side of the tank for balance.

    With the bottle strapped to the back, how are you monitoring the amount of air in tank if you have to use it? Do you need to connect a full length SPG to the first stage? Thanks

    • @everythingscuba
      @everythingscuba  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jeremiah, you would want to connect an SPG. Or if you have a computer that can read more than one wireless transmitter, you could also attach a transmitter to the first stage of the redundant gas. Thanks!

      +Minh Chau it would be a bit awkward. Where we dive though. Solo diving is not permitted from boats and so we generally don’t carry a pony bottle.
