Thank you to Dan and all others who have helped to produce Oceans Apart. The voices in this video were articulate and impassioned. For years I’ve seen the way the international rugby community takes advantage of the colour and passion the PI teams bring to World Cups but essentially neglect them in the intervening periods. Keep going in your struggle.
Rewatching this again since it first came out. Glad to see that changes are finally being made to help restore the faith and talent back into the Internstional game. Great work Dan and all the best with your future content, looking forward to it bro.
I’m a fan of both codes. WR needs to change the eligibility rules to what League is doing at the least, it’s a human right, live your values WR! League is winning this battle, and it’s because in League the Club is King, the international game comes second. For Union, it is the other way around. No nation owns you, owns your heritage, owns your blood. Nations works for us, they serve us, Nations are instituted to secure rights, not take them away, and certainly some independent business, like WR, can’t take away Rights. Can you imagine that for decades in Union some of the best players in the world have been sitting on the sidelines as spectators instead of participating? What a waste not to showcase all of the world’s greatest talent on your world stage, what a waste. Keep up the good work! We need these rules changed!
It worked wonders with league, hopefully the two pasifika teams in SR helps pushes this further for changes in the eligibility rules despite the "elitism" behind "protecting" the game and not growing it further. League may be focused on clubs, but at least it's making the world cup itself a little more competitive slowly but surely. Keep on keeping on.
I remember Isa Nacewa played one game for Fiji, and then he pledged his allegiance to All Blacks, but he was denied because of game for Fiji, this is actually a good subject
Tonga beating Australia in the Rugby League was the best and worst thing to happen. It was a reality of what could happen to a tier 1 nation if they lost control of the situation.
I doubt it'll ever happen which is sad... but all they need to do is let tier 1 players go and play for tier 2 nations like league does, and a 2 year stand down would be more than enough. There's still the issue of the people in charge of rugby in these PI nations putting money in their pocket instead of where it's supposed to go... don't tell me it doesn't happen, if it didn't the millions of dollars put in to PI nations would mean players wouldn't have to pay their own way to play international games.
First World Countries are the poaching kings of Pacific island rugby players, killing the fair play rules period! So many great pacific island players have retired not having the option to rep there own blimin countries ffs.
I'm up for changing the rules big time, but some of these comments felt like a load of shit, I'd love to to see the likes of peatau and fekitoa in Tongan colours, your not young and broke when you get asked to play for international teams. you've already got a pretty good contract at super level and you do have a fair idea what your getting yourself into,
