December 20, 2015, Surviving an accident in a 1901 Oldsmobile after being forced off the road by an on coming vehicle on a curve. It was Sunday November 8, 2015 and I had driven my car to a veteran's Breakfast about three miles from my home. Although I drive this car as much as 150 miles in a day I was just going to breakfast and after breakfast I cave a man and his wife a ride in the rain to the next exit north about three miles. All went well, The Oldsmobile was running better than a Singer Sewing Machine. I droped the couple off and then headed about 3/4 of a mile back home. It was raining a good even rain and being in my Oldsmobile I was trying to be extra careful because of the traffic was moving on the street I was on fairly fast and without a care in the world. Well I crossed a bridge that is really narrow for being a 35 M. P. H. road between two curves and a bridge. As I exited the bridge I had to turn from a South Easterly direction to a Southern direction. The Road way there has very little Curbing or shoulder. Low and behold her came a car traveling quite a lot faster then the 35 M. P. H. and was in my lane approaching me and I was forced to swerve to the right and with the Tiller it went fast to the right and my right front wheel jumped the Curb and that was all she wrote. Before I knew what happened I was plowed into the Creek Bed below face first. I was thrown out of the passenger side of my car. I was all but near dead everyone thought. Here an old man who looks like Santa Claus is laying below a wrecked car from a whole different mentioned of time,. They didn't even know what kind of car it was, and was really surprised when the learned the Oldsmobile was older than the Ford.
I spent five days in the Hospital three in ICU and the other's in Advanced care where they had me right by the desk so they could keep a close eye and ear on me. I ended up with a severe Concussion, severe back, neck, shoulder , arms and wrist sprains as well as a Fractured right femur but it was a clean fracture and had a brace securing it. On the fifth day they waere going to send me to a Convalescent Center. that was when I put a stop to all the Hub Bub and told them I was going home. They advised me that I was hurt internally to the extreme that I had tears in my liver, Pancreas, and every organ in my body was torn loose and had damage.
I told my wife, i was going home no matter what. If I was going to die I was going to die at home. We took in a woman to stay with us for a month, But you know how we old men are, We do not pay much attention to even someone we hire. Within four days of being home I was shuffling out to my shop and looking at my car. It was killing me that it was down and so was I. So I stared doing a little at a time suffering every moment. But I tried to work an hour every day. I tore the Car all the way down and have started rebuilding it. I got a Black Smith to straighten the Springs, and rebuild the Spindle on the Passenger side of the front Axle, and have been playing a little everyday and have allof the Under Carriage completely rebuilt as of tonight. Started the car and moved it in my shop, It is going to be a lot better ow than it was before the accident. I used sheet Aluminum to reinforce the body where it proved week. The Body went back together really easier than I imagined it would. I hope to have the Body work done tomorrow and painted Tuesday and back on the Road Thursday as if nothing happened.
Well Am glad you are okay,and take it easy restoring the car. You want to be around take your wife for a ride in it.

Keep finding and restoring these old beauties it’s amazing it’s only been 120 years.
But then sometimes I think about the moon landing 69 years after the automobile was invented and then just tripping out about what we’re doing today. But yeah for the love of all things rubber and round save those babies.

Excellent, thank you. I own a replica my friend and I constructed from the original blue prints. The power train is Honda and hydrostatic. Original engines and transmissions are hard to come by and original bodies don't exist.

I think there would be a MARKET for a Modern, High tech version of such vehicles. In an old automotive engineering book from the early 1900s, I read about how there were TWO types of cars people were working on---THESE were called "Light Vehicles" while other research was being done with heavy machines that could carry 4 or more passengers.------As a Large, Practical vehicle was of the most use, further development was concentrated on the heavy vehicle, and the Light vehicles were forgotten. Now that we HAVE good REAL cars, it would be a good idea to introduce LIGHT VEHICLES also---to fill the gab between motorcycles and regular cars----eg.---A 4 wheel "Motorcycle', so to speak, that 2 people can sit in for quick trips and errands.---modern, of course.
Old school cars have a certain lustre about them like they are Stagecoach’s trying really hard to look artisan and fancy
