- Hi! This is the begining of my new CNC lathe project! I bought an old milling machine vertical spindle for quite cheap (~$125). I'll try to restore it to a better condition and convert it to belt drive instead of the original bevel gear drive. This time the spindle should be overkill comparing to my previous cnc lathe project. It's got a SK50 Taper which is used in milling machines which weight is about ~3-5 tons. I think it should be suitable for a simple homemade machine regardless of the lack of though-hole possibility.

Your abilities are great. I'm going to DIY a new cnc machine. But I'm not yet concerned with the electrical system. When I saw you created it. I feel like I'm pushing myself. But it's still very confusing. Can you help make a clip? Can you give me a detailed procedure for connecting the servo and drivers for all 3 xyz axes? From beginning to end, because there were a lot of wires, I didn't really understand the electrical system and connecting the Sovo motor. I see you write on paper If there is, it will increase understanding a lot. Thank you for the knowledge you share. For people who don't know the recipient
i made already some videos about how to make things related to CNCs. But i'll try to make a video about my servo-driven cnc mill too
that bearing that was loose - isn't center punching going to put all the cutting forces through teeny tiny contact points? this seems like it would wear out again fast. can a shim be used here? i genuinely don't know

Łożyska wymieniałeś czy dawałeś te same ? tanie chyba nie były ? i skąd ty to wziąłeś ?
Dałem te same bo same łożyska wyglądały całkiem ok pomijając to pasowanie a żeby kupić takie same łożyska to by trzeba wyłożyć tyle samo ile dałem za to wrzeciono, haha! :) znalazłem gdzieś na olx ktoś wystawił za pół darmo to wziąłem 😁
@@GBWM_CNC No tak dlatego pytałem ,wszystko zależy od obciążeń a i łożyska maja swoje tolerancje i dokładność.
@@micaangelo507 dokładnie. Samo wrzeciono będzie mega przewymiarowane bo takiej wielkości wrzeciono to na kilku tonowych frezarkach montowali a tutaj będzie tokareczka domowej roboty to myślę, że wystarczy. Jeżeli się okaże, że łożyska wysiądą po jakimś czasie to zawsze można wymienić później.

Interesting project.
50 int taper is a Very robust setup and very reliable.
Why spend several minutes showing the cleaning process when progress would be better.
Bearings....you did not inspect the inner race track for wear or damage...bad move. Granted you won't be putting it under the same loads as in industry...but you will have noisy bearings. Most times they have acceptable wear with no issues.
Loose bearing fit...there are products widely available that are liquid adhesives that are designed exactly for that purpose ( Loctite is one such product) They would ensure the bearing is kept central and not offset as will happen with what you have done. Also popping the shaft as you have lasts a very short period as vibration will take it back to what you just had previously. That will give you spindle vibration and cutter problems.
Bearings of this type are Meant to run with a "preload" on the bearings, I can't stress enough that you should address that. The preloaded bearings ensure smooth operation.
Find the data sheet from the bearing manufacturer and that will be a good start.
Also pay close attention to machined mating surfaces for flatness... something you haven't done yet. Dents or damage will affect your readings and also contribute to things coming loose in operations.
Keep going you'll get there !
I didn't know about such loctite product. Thanks for your hints - it will be valuable in the future. If there will be problems later on - I'll have some things I can consider. Btw I preloaded the bearings with the nut so the spindle is preloaded.
Piszesz że nie bedzie przelotu przez wrzeciono, ale gdybyś wywalił tą śrube dociągową do narzędzia i zrobił tarczę zabierakową na krótkim stożku przykręcaną do tych 4 otwaorów od wrzeciona to byś miał przelot. Musiał byś tylko lekko przetoczyć wrzeciono od czoła aby nie było bicia. Jaki tam jest otwór?
Właściwie nie pomyślałem nawet o wykorzystaniu tych otworów - to jest mega dobry koncept. Tylko wtedy uchwyt nie bazowałby się na stoku tylko na czole wrzeciona - pytanie jak zapewnić współosiowość. Czy chodzi o to, żeby bazować na stożku i a od przodu tylko dociągnąć śrubami? Wtedy by się tarcza nie mogła stykać z powierzchnią czołową wrzeciona a jezeliby odatawała to śruby mogą ją wygiąć.
A jaki jest otwór przez resztę wrzeciona to musiałbym sprawdzić
@@GBWM_CNC Trzeba by zrobić takątarczę zabierakową pośrednią, z jednej strony z krótkim storzkiem który by centrował, a z drugiej strony pod uchwyt, tylko jeszcze byś musiał sprawdzić czy da się to poskręcać, jak duży masz uchwyt i jakiej średnicy jest wrzeciono.

yes, it's the same taper but there are some little differences between the tool holders
jes that bearing is shot, why didnt you replace it?
The measurements indicated that the bearing race diameter is ok and the shaft diameter is a little to low. I have no possibility to make a new shaft so I used the old one following the NSK company rules - they say some grease should fix the problem (I additionally added the center-punches to fit the diameter even better). A new bearing would cost me almost the same as the whole spindle when I was buying it. If it won't work well - I'll try to replace the bearing in the future but for now it should work for a while.
@@GBWM_CNC the whole cage was wobbling that is worn inside and out, thats not a too expensive bearing type so you had a good deal on that spindle
@@DeviloftheHelll the ball cage was wobbling because the bearing has to be preloaded first. That's nothing bad for that type of bearing
