    Hi Matt. I accidentally found your channel around 2 weeks ago. Really bringing back great memories for me of my school days. I kept Borders and a few British Finches back then. I was freaked out to hear you mention Alan in your video (we were both members of Haydock Avicultural Society back in the late 80s). As a Junior I was often a Steward for the shows, which was quite an honour to a young lad 😂. I used to go visit Alans' aviaries fairly regularly to "have a look at his birds". I always loved his Redpolls and "Chirpy" the Blackbird. Really freaked me out to hear a name I know from the past, as you could literally have been anywhere in the country. It's a small world indeed. Maybe I need to get a few Borders for old times sakes! Looking forward to the next episode .

    Question: Have you made any changes to your 'seasonal care schedule'?
    ex: Do you still run prospective mates together during the off-season, until sometime prior to breeding commences?
    Do you still treat with Baycox/equivilent, and a mite treatment? Etc?

    Great tips and lovely birds. So many varieties. I have 1 green Male and 1 yellow female who have been in the same cage since I purchased them at 6 mths old. They are now almost 3 but although they sit and chatter quietly to each other, have never been interested in breeding. Have tried putting nest in the cage. Any ideas? They are not related btw. Thanks

    • @TheCanaryRoom
      @TheCanaryRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Joy, and sorry of the late reply - are they definitely male and female? it could be that they're just not getting in to breeding condition. if it's possible some time apart from each other may get them together. if they're in the house its possible that they are getting too much light all year round so unable to follow a natural breeding cycle. Best of luck!

    • @TheCanaryRoom
      @TheCanaryRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, I've 16' by 10" high and 14" by 10" high fronts - the cages open up in to bigger flights. Book won't be out until November I'm afraid

      Cheers Ian, I’ll write it through the season as I want to ensure there’s as much relevant photography in it as possible. Hoping to finish it mid October and get it back late November. It will be self published so will have to pay for it first too!!!

    Can you coulour feed any canary while molting and get the red fethears?!

    • @TheCanaryRoom
      @TheCanaryRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and no, many of the breeds would be debarred from exhibition if you colour fed them. In all likelihood you’d get little patches of deep orange on a Fife or border. The coloured canary (or red factor as they were known) will take a red colour when fed although is orange unfed

    What will happen to Bros and Sis mixing ?

    • @TheCanaryRoom
      @TheCanaryRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If mixing you mean breeding it’s very close and there’s a strong chance the young will have an inherent weakness. However it is possible to do and I will do it on the odd occasion

    • @michaelborg3685
      @michaelborg3685 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Canary Room : Okay thanks very much. So it’s not advisable then , only mentioning this because you mentioned the hen with the son and other breeding mixes , hope I heard right. Thanks

    • @TheCanaryRoom
      @TheCanaryRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you did hear correctly, it’s a mother and son pairing. It’s arguably not as close as brother and sister as the son has genes of its father and its mother. Brother and sister effectively have the same gene mix as their mother and father are the same

    • @michaelborg3685
      @michaelborg3685 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Canary Room : Oh right okay , so will this apply same to cock and daughter I presume ? Excuse me if I am wrong , normally I don’t mix but it’s good to know , especially for certain colours in birds , you know yourself sometimes it unique. Thanks for your time and hard work.
