  • The transmission bypass valve can be the cause of a sudden loss of hydraulics and steering on an early John Deere. In this video I run through servicing the transmission filter bypass valve.
Hello Im Lance (aka Bundy Bear) and doing these videos is my hobby. I do own Queensland Tractor Spares in Australia where I sell parts and offer technical advise to customers.
Parts seen in our videos can be purchased from www.queenslandt...
We have a lot more than we can offer on our web site available to us and in our store. If you dont see what you would like please email info@queenslandtractorspares.com.au and we will help where we can.
I do try and help with technical advise at bundybearsshed@gmail.com if you have a question or are having trouble with your project.

That was very good Lance when you were doing this you help thinking of the bloke who designed these components he or they must have a brilliant mechanical mind to think these things out. John

Yes probably a German with these Manheim built tractors. They were built in the old Lanz Bulldog factory I believe.

Hi Lance. Still having issues with John Deere Manheim 2030 I recently purchased (ex Shire tractor with slasher from Pickles auction). Both power steering and lift work intermittently. Once I use full throttle it frees up and starts working. I've followed all your instructions, changed hydraulic oil and filter, cleaned both filter screens, cleaned transmission relief valve. Hydraulic oil and screens were clean. Main hydraulic pump looks as if its been possibly rebuilt. Any other recommendations? Maybe its time to have hydraulic expert do pressure testing on pump etc.? Thanks Simon

If the valve is stuck open the oil will just bypass back into the transmission case? I have a 2130 with loader and there is insufficient pressure/flow. It builds up to 2200 lbs but if you lift the loader pressure falls off quickly and is slow to recover back up. Trans filter and screen are clean, Oil is clean.

The oil goes to a lube circuit but running out of oil is a thing these do. Do you return the oil from the loader to the filter housing? that can help things at times.

@@BundyBearsShed Yes the oil from loader returns to the filter cup. I'll inspect the situation during the next rainy day.

Did the 20-series have a filter with a pressure reliefe valve ? (AL25554)

Yes with both types of filters I believe

Start checking system pressures and see if you can detect a low pressure on a particular gear.

Hello Lance, don’t know if you’ll be able to point me in the right direction, My 2130 hydraulics work erratically, basically I have no hydraulics unless I engage the PTO, this generally means lift arms and SCVs however it can also effect this steering could this be to do with this bypass valve or would you suggest it’s to do with PTO clutch, or perhaps the priority valve? I drained the oil and changed the filter and cleaned the screen, all genuine Deere oil and filter. What course of action do you recommend I take ?

I would think you have an internal PTO brake pipe leak as by engaging the pto you cut flow to the pto brake lines.

Same place just near the transmission filter.
