For confidence, “fake it until you make it” is an apt description. Even if you don’t feel confident, you have to at least show confidence to keep morale high. It also makes us seem like belligerent morons sometimes, of course.
In my country (hungary), you will be more ashamed if you say "I can't" than if you say "it will be as easy as 1+1" and critically fail.

@@RVG026 Confidence is the point. At my place, if you say that you are not capable of something, that is just an excuse for being lazy and not even trying.
So often it has the affect. So often.
So many here in the US are confident but it is totally unjustified as they are total idiots. I'd rather be more capable and have humility.
I'm really envious of this humility in japanese society. Taking care of not bothering others is a great thing, starting from being quiet inside of trains, not wearing too aggressive perfume, in some regions not smoking outside, not throwing away the waste whereever you are standing,.... I understand that the drawback is having lower self-esteem, still I prefer the humble Japan style of life in which people reflect on how their actions affect others.

What surprised me the most is eye-colour, because when I had to name the exterior characteristic of a woman which I find most attractive, then it would be dark brown eyes.

The thing I totally agree is the size of appartments or houses. I am currently looking for a job in Japan, because I think my japanese studies will benefit extremely from daily practice. However, the thing I am most afraid of is not finding an appartment in which I can really feel home.

About 3: Both ways can be positive and negative. Japanese have great humility which sometimes makes them less confident in themselves. Westerners have less humility, which makes them (look) more confident, but can also make them egoistic and not think enough about others. So both have good aspects that can go to an extreme.
It also leads into some negative traits, like westerners more willing to do petty crime for thrill or desire to be challenged.
Humility and respect I admire greatly, I spent time in Japan and the way Japanese people behaved inspired me to engage in a lot of self reflection.
Are you American? If so it's not only Japanese who act humbly. Japanese are just very rich and if you saw more modest societies behave even more humbly than Japanese, it would not create the impression I suppose.
I am from Italy, i have a big house, a tall nose, long legs, but i have cages at my windows, a security system, cameras all around my house, if i leave my wallet at the restaurant it will disappears in 30 seconds, so i am envious of japanese and i would like to live in Japan. That’s pretty wild; here in the U.S. a lot of people can have their doors unlocked. And returning wallets to their owners is pretty common.

@@musicfan300I live in white flight suburbs. I feel the safest in cities as I’m Asian and get much less racism in cities. Suburbs and rural? Omg the racism is so high. And the paranoia of suburbs people in protecting their home is unreasonably high. Everyone has a gun.
Cities, more people are educated, accepting of diversity and differences. Suburbs and rural areas terrified of minorities and thus have a lot of guns and paranoia.

Here in Ireland, talking to strangers and random conversations is the norm, we will talk to anyone. It is very interesting the differences.
Americans have just about lost all the European manners, customs, and niceties that made life so satisfying. It's not always the case but it looks like most of the people that make conversations with each other will be the elderly people.

My wife is Japanese and it’s not easy for us to understand each other. She infers things and that is foreign to me. I say things I mean and don’t infer. Sometimes I get it and sometimes I don’t. That is actually a big difference in cultures.
My father in law and his brothers own a small pharmacy chain in Japan and he worked his butt off. His daughter was supposed to have an arranged marriage but she met me…. So as you can imagine she was not able to pay him back. (I forget the phrase) and he hated me at first. But I gave him 2 boys and a girl and after a while he learned to like me. It took time. Sadly all his hard work didn’t pay off as he died a few years ago. The Japanese work ethic is good but it is tragic in other ways too.
He and I made peace and I honor his memory. I visit his grave and talk to him when I go.
I think I am freer in expression than my Japanese wife. It’s just that we are different and nothing either should be jealous of

Not all westerners live in big homes. Here in the UK the average home size is only 10% bigger than the average Japanese home. The average size of a UK home has only got smaller and smaller over the years. I envy those who live in big houses. Many houses and apartments in western countries are getting more and more expensive and unaffordable due to mass immigration!
It is general thing in the northern part of Europe, I think.
Same thing over here housing has been getting even more expensive then it already was, it's pretty much impossible for a young person to move out now also due to mass immigration :/

@@xXVibrantSnowXx If you can afford it, then too much space is far far better than too little space. Some people who go to live in Japan first get the idea once they arrive that living in a small space is somehow great and sophisticated. A form of minimalist living. But eventually they realize that it isn't and a lack of space is often an annoyance and a pain in the a**e. You have to think very carefully about what you take home, so as to avoid over clutter. It is better to pay a lot of money to live in a big home, than to pay a lot of money to live in a small home, and in England today a lot of money buys you very little!
This is more a function of population density than east vs west. It's completely logical, Japan and UK are both relatively small island nations. Less land, per given amount of people = smaller housing. Even in US, a HUGE country, certain areas that are much more population dense like New York City have very small housing, just like shown in this video.
The grass is always greener on the other side! Do you know that saying, sensei? It means you're always envious of the things you haven't got. And the same applies to us Westerners, who appreciate Japanese people for most of the same things you mentioned in your video.

Japan is very organized, clean and beautiful. You have a huge variety of healthy food. People are slim, educated and polite.
As for Japanese women, where do I start? They are very feminine (the Western ones are less and less), no tatoos, crazy hair colors or piercings, slim (important enough to mention it twice), and their almond eyes are very pretty.
Many Japanese women dye their hair various colors and have tattoos, especially in Tokyo these days.

I've always though Asian eyes were cute. They're really expressive. The eye colour doesn't matter. Dark brown eyes are great to look in to.

My Japanese wife and I are in our 60's, so she has some different things she's 'jealous' of... of all the physical things you listed, I love about her!! She came from a very traditional family ( surprised me her father agreed for her to marry me )... but they have told me I have a Japanese heart which means the world to me. Truly enjoy your videos.

The best video I've watched this year, honestly. Outstanding teaching technique and so very compelling to watch: smashing work. Thank you so much! I had the pleasure of visiting Japan a few years ago and was blown away by the politeness, the exceptional customer service, the cleanliness, the order, the sense of personal safety....plus of course a country of outstanding beauty, an amazingly rich cultural heritage and some of the best damned food on the planet! I knew enough Japanese at the time to hold a conversation and I still remember the warmth of welcome I got when this became apparent....memories to last a lifetime.
Great video. From a Japanese perspective. I do want to say, I find Japanese women, on the whole, are some of the most beautiful women in the world.
I recently returned from Japan after living in Hiroshima for a year with my wife(Japanese), there are pro’s and con’s. Japan is a great country and the people are Awesome. Best food on earth!!! Your channel is Great and very educational and I for one love it , you do a very good job!!💪💪💪

Japanese traditional culture is wonderful. Japanese people are polite, orderly, helpful, and act respectful to others. Many countries envy you instead.
My opinion about the features of Asian folk are the same as with all cultures. People are fine with the physiology they were born with. You can change what you look like outside, but if you're lacking on the inside, that emptiness will eventually show. Nothing wrong with style, just keep yourself neat and maintained.
Don't sell yourself short. You have enough confidence in yourself to run a TH-cam Channel.

Unpopular opinion but I think it's a good thing we are jealous of each other to some extent... in this way we can try to learn good things from each other and correct our weaknesses or shortcomings!
I absolutely agree. People hear the word 'jealousy' and it's instantly associated with a negative emotion. But I agree with you, as with many things, jealousy in moderation is useful. Useful as a motivator. Moderation is the key word. It's when lazy, immoral people get jealous is when it gets dangerous.
You can't blame people for thinking like that, because most of the time, jealousy is a negative thing (because it's) at least it's what's being known here, Jealousy can lead to hatred between friends/people, therefore jealousy is mostly viewed as negative thing, that being said it's has it's positives if understood more deeply@@Loroths
@@xXVibrantSnowXx it all depends on the person. If the person is a weak or hateful person then jealousy can be a precursor to hatred. Weak people can't handle emotions. A strong person will overcome it. It just exposes the type of person they already are.
I am jealous of the beautiful Japanese women who are not overweight or fat. Many if not all American women are big or just very overweight. I fell really hard (I was in Tokyo for five months) for a Japanese woman who was short and had short legs and hands. Her face was just to die for!! I didn't know that there was such beautiful women like the Japanese women.

As a Korean-American, there’s lots we’re jealous about as well! At the end of the day, we’re all humans striving to be better each and every day! ❤
My father was an RAF pilot, he returned from a trip to Japan in 1952 with his cine film of the people, my mother was fascinated and kept replaying his films, I as a boy had the Japanese clothes he brought back. In 1956 I was in Japan with him and he insisted we live like the Japanese sleeping on tatami mats for example. A daughter of a friend had blond hair and she had to cover it up as she was frightened by the Japanese gathering around her to touch her. I grew to admire the Shogun culture and all that is Japanese, now I'm so saddened about how the Japanese have given up there fantastic culture and taken on the crass American culture a sad loss to the world at large.
More like some aspects of western culture seeped into Japanese, it is still very distinct though. Culture is what always shifts, whether one likes it not.
American culture has literally spread world wide. Small price to pay for relative world peace.

I never imagined Japanese people would be jealous of a “tall” nose, we usually think small noses are cuter 🙈 Also I have blue eyes but my boyfriend’s eyes are deep brown and I’ve always thought dark brown eyes are so attractive because they have so much more depth! The truth is you are really pretty and you should not be jealous about appearance
Don’t be jealous about the looks or behaviour of foreigners (non Japanese/Asian). You are beautiful in our eyes, your long black hair, dark small eyes and I personally find Asian women gracefull and always good dressed. I was lucky to find me a Chinese girlfriend and after 25 years I still adore her.
Here in western countries, individuality is prized - I believe more so than in Japan. So people are very different from person to person. When I watch things about Japan, even starting from like grade school, your society seems to place more importance on the group.
- Eye color: I have dark brown eyes as well, so I understand how some of you might feel. My family members all have green eyes, mine are brown though. lol I actually like brown eyes the most because there is often depth to them. I remember when I used to date a girl in school and her mom picked us up. I sat in the back seat and I kept seeing her mom looking at me in the mirror. She told my girlfriend that she thought my eyes were so deep, as if it reflected my personality. Or a girl on the school bus with me who told me I had beautiful eyes, as the sun reflected in them. She was like,"I never saw how beautiful your eyes are...wow.". What makes eyes beautiful to me, is less about the color and more about what I see when I look into them. Your eyes are pretty. They look healthy and vibrant. Plus some Japanese people smile and their eyes smile too and I think it's super cute.
- Being confident: Really just a stereotype. As I was saying earlier, we're all very different people. Some of us are confident, some are shy. I'm more shy myself. I guess the difference is, sometimes I feel different depending on the moment. Where I might be more confident or outgoing if I feel like it's time for me to be.
- Tall nose: I would say I have a pretty big nose. Big nose is usually what we call it, instead of tall. Some people make fun of people they think have big noses.
- Big houses: Most people don't live in large houses with pools and such. If you were in California, it's not really a good example for the rest of the country as people are pretty wealthy there. Only people with money who care a lot about material things have houses like that, I think.
- Long legs: Nice, but doesn't make anyone less or more beautiful to me.
What I love about Japan is that you have a distinct culture, not one that is a big mix of others. Your streets are clean and it feels quite safe there. I like that people aren't overly loud as well. I can be in a big city and have some space to think. I'm not a loud person myself and I like having quiet moments. The respect people give each other. The beauty. More humble people. The women I think are the most beautiful in the world. They often have beautiful skin, which I think is partly genetic and partly diet. They have cute faces. The Japanese language is pleasant to listen to as well.
I'd rather live in Japan than here in the US.

I’m jealous of Japanese men! Japan has the most beautiful women in the world. And may I say, you mochi are one of them. 😉🥰. And I love the Japanese culture. I’ve been to Japan many times. And love your country. People are always very nice and the scenery is beautiful. And the food, so good. And, I know this isn’t very important. But I love and miss the Japanese toilets. So high tech. And very comfortable.
Since I grew up in Germany, learned Japanese, have a Japanese wife and move to Japan soon, let me say a few things to that:
1.) In Japan, people tend to understate many things, while in Germany, they tend to overstating things, 話過ぎるwould be the correct term for that.
I really don't like this in German culture since it very often gives a completely wrong impression. People tend to brag way too much. It is even troublesome for applying for job to always show you are the most competent, most confident, best guy for the job because otherwise, it might give you lower salary. And then it gives huge disappointment because - ohh wonder - of course you are not the most competent person and basically they need you to fill out a gap which exists...exactly why?
I think you know where this leads to.
2.) Big houses...
Well, my family-in-law lives in a nice big house near nagano. Meanwhile, my parents would never be able to effort a house here in Germany as it is just way too expensive.
You'd never be able to effort an old, might-be-renovation-needed-house for 20k as in some areas in Japan here in Germany. Housing prices are that high, bureaucracy and effort is that high that many people simply would never be able to effort. Even when both people earning a good amount of money, it is still impossible for the majority here unless you are the top 20 or 10% of income in Germany.
3.) Oh yeah, about income or general job situation:
I work as a SW Engineer in a bank. So basically, I am making a good amount of money. Before taxes and insurance. In my salary, basically every Euro I earn more, I'd have to pay around two thirds of taxes and insurances, the amount increasing over recent years. Compared to living standards, I just have the good luck to live in a very cheap flat. However, that is not the normal situation for the average citizen here. Basically, salarys tend to be considerably lower than international standards due to high tax and insurance, while living cost have skyrocketed over the last 20 years.
So overall, higher taxes, higher insurance cost and higher living cost equals far lower living standards than what you'd be able to get in other countries.
And another important aspect to add here is that while the salaries for my profession drastically increased internationally, especially in Japan, it didn't that much increase here.
In fact, when I move to Japan, I make maybe the same or 10% less with the big difference that living cost is far lower and in Japan, I am considered to be rich with that salary.
The biggest cultural shock is neither the language nor any kind of behavior of people or so, but the fact of gasoline heaters and the unique smell in winter haha...
no one seems to appreciate what they have, i think videos like these are pretty good to help people appreciate themselves and their features!

1st time i heard the legendary Hironobu Kageyama sing Cha La Head Cha La in the mid 90s for dragonball z i was hooked i was like wow this sound is soooo different but amazing

i was surprised visiting japan and being told my nose was high, i felt self conscious to think its big and sticks out 😂😂sadly im not rich to have a big house 😂😂but everyone’s features are seriously beautiful so everyone know you are beautiful for who you are❤️❤️ I’m envious of the culture of humility at the same time though I can understand possible burdens that may come with it. Also how small talk among strangers in Japanese language is not common. I feel the burden of unnecessary small talk in my language and culture. Perhaps because I’m introverted and shy.. Going to the supermarket in Japan I wasn’t asked hi how are you ect questions and I didn’t have to ask it back so I was relieved ..
Japan stays humble….that is their best feature..and it attracts people all over the world.

Fun fact, there is recent research that suggests, that light eye colours like blue or green can see significantly better in low light conditions, but worse in very bright conditions. It seems that blue eyes frist came from a genetic mutation somewhere in the middle east, but over time it bacame very rare there, but much more common the more north you go. The research was actually done by Japanese sciencist living in Europe.
I have blue eyes. I could always see pretty well in the dark but I seldom go outside without sunglasses.
Direct sun, overcast, raining, whatever. It's still too bright.

I think Japan might go a little overboard with humility, and the west goes too far with self-esteem. We have a lot of people with false confidence, and a fake it till you make it attitude. Many here think they can run before they can walk. In Japan and other Asian cultures with very strong filial piety and hierarchies, it seems like there are the opposite: competent people who actually lose confidence due to expectations of humility. Authenticity is the key! Be humble about your shortcomings and confident about your strengths. False humility and false confidence are detriments.

I was interviewed the other day for a school project and I was the only teacher who was speaking in English for it. I have to say after watching the interviews with the other Japanese teachers I became jealous of how refined Japanese people are when they speak due to the fact that the language is spoken with a fairly closed mouth. So while all the others looked like the should be on a T.V. show or in a movie I looked like an old hound dog yawning. 🤣

To comment on house sizes I think it can be geographical cause in big cities there are smaller houses but I think for you in japan the small houses has alot to do with how most people in Japan live in big cities

Firstly I think Mochi sensei should use the term Envy and not Jealous. The word Jelous carries a negative side along with it, There are many things that foreigners, Envy or Jelous about Japanese or East Asians in general, these are Asian looks age so much slower compared to the western world in general, they are often misunderstood as underage which may spark issues in western public perceptions, So the amount of Envy is there as most women do wants to look young. Another part is the Eye types that East Asian has like the big Rounded types, western often only show the slit eyes common to Chinese but they never do enough research that big Round Asian eyes exist like Mochi sensei's here which are consider gorgeous in the Eastern World which look like they are Anime girls in reality. Also Natural Black straight hair is envied by a lot of foreigners as well, I for one likes the Hime-cut. There are plenty more to say but know this the grass is always greener on the other side.
As for personality, for me being humble is far superior than being prideful as I live long enough to know which emotion leads to which having too much pride will lead to arrogance and disrespect, It may also lead to narcissistic behaviors, having self centered world views or too full of oneself. The culture of Japan in that regard, A Nation that practices humility, humbleness, and put others first has certainly contributed to social peace and low crime rate. A society that practices respect is given unless taken away which is a superior cultural moral conduct imo , compared to the, Western world concept of respect must be earned which leads to aggressive competition or even projection of oneself is one of the social issue plaguing the West.

#3 Self confidence. Might be a bit of a filter, in that the sort of person who might get on a plane and fly to Japan probably has some boldness in their personality. Also, and I found this when I went on student exchange, there's a feeling that you're not going to be visiting Japan for very long, so you want to make the most of it. I was more outgoing and friendly during my trip than I have ever been at home.
Finally... There's an important wisdom of Japan, I learned from David Suzuki's book: *"The man away from home has no neighbours".* If you've not heard it, it may be a product of an earlier generation. This phrase is deeper than it sounds. I counted 5 different ways in can be interpreted; 5 different lessons it can teach.
On of them is that a man away from home (visiting Japan, for example) does not have to feel concerned with what his neighbours, family, or friends back in his home country will say or judge about his behaviour, since they're far away and while probably never hear about it if he got drunk and ran through the neighbourhood naked. He cares more about what the people he knows think about him than he does what strangers think about him, and there are only strangers here. It's a very freeing thought (but a bit dangerous!)
Hailing from EU here. Uh... telling someone they have tall (big) nose would mean you tell them they are ugly in a camouflaged and really mean way. (Old Hag with prominent nose basically or potato nose is not sought after either).
If there's anything I would envy Japanese people that would be: soft and bright skin, eating healthy and balanced diet by default... and general fondness of cleanliness and order.

NOW that is something we all can relate to... big houses. who doesn't want to live in big houses?
When you live in a house the size of what we would consider a shed, even a modest American home is huge.
And if she lived in California, she most likely drove by people in larger houses with big yards and swimming pools. You see a fun pool party at one of those houses and wonder, "How can I get in on that?" It's a natural thought.
I know I'd like to live in a mansion. I'd like to find out for myself how big is "too big of a house". I've been in some mansions before, and none of them looked too big for me. Now all I need to do is get my hands on a couple million dollars.

1. Japanese can speak japanese verywell. for me japanese language is cool language which easily to expressing feeling (just my opinion) it can be very soft very kawaii or it can be very rude harsh, manly, and tough.
2. many of Japanese are creative. that why a lot of japanese become manga artist, writer, or even animators. also they respect others creativity (as far as I know)
3. Japan have a lot of good looking people. eventhough they don't wearing any makeup they looks beauty and handsome. it like they have something different aura or something that very attractive.
4. Japan has beautiful and cool traditional clothing. perhaps this is because they spreading japanese culture through the world so people finally enjoying their traditional clothing. their traditional clothing looks good even they are wearing today mixed with these days style of fashion
5. japan has Samurai, I hope I can become one but I'm not japanese. Hahahah
6. when I see Japanese people I just thought they are anime character. whatever their age, profession, habits, style, or anything I just can see them as anime character in real life. when they are talking infront of me, it is like I'm watching live Anime infront of my face

What I love about Japan culture , everything is very clean, in Eurrope people have the tendency to throw trash like cans out of cars cause they can't be bothered throwing it in the trashcan. Theme Cafés, you siimply dont have them in Europe, would love to see them here. Culture, japanese culture is simply so different from Europe that it fascinating, your history, buildings and the kindness to other people stand out. Japanese food, it seems extremely tasty and well made, your portions at restaurants are also not so big which is nice.

Big nose or tall nose said to a woman is considered to be a criticism. The shorter stature and smaller size is
considered to be dainty in Western Culture. It is why so many Western men find Japanese women like yourself
to be very attractive. No tats is a good thing and Japanese have beautiful thick hair and clear skin lightly brown
which is very attractive to Western men and women.
3. Confidence: In some areas if you do not display confidence it could be taken as a sign of weakness and result in bullying & being subjected to violent crimes (aka death). Especially with homeless populations.
4. Nose: Yeah a lot of people will be conscientious about someone talking about their nose. And COULD be perceived negatively like you mentioned. Like if you had one part of you that you hated to see in the mirror and someone commented about it.
6. Big house: It's becoming increasingly difficult to afford those. To the point it becomes the center of your financial life for a very long time to afford it. Funny enough many foreigners are thinking the same thing about japan seeing homes in the countryside being neglected and the possibility to get into housing for an affordable rate.

Everything that Japanese are jealous about is what makes Japanese people better than westerners (in my opinion). I envy Japanese society and how they have held onto traditions but also are moving forward in a respectful manner. The grass is not greener in a western society, and Japanese woman are gorgeous, I wish westerners were more like Japanese.
