So we finally have the first season of BATMAN THE CAPED CRUSDARE!!!! IM SO HYPE!!! So we start with Episode 1 Titled, TREACHEROUS WATERS. A series of explosions rocks Gotham. Batman finds himself in the middle of a turf war between rival crime bosses Rupert Thorne and the Penguin. Meanwhile, Commissioner Gordon and his daughter Barbara look for ways to fix Gotham's corrupt Criminal.

This show is much darker then btas and so glad been confirmed for another seasom amd hope many more seasons to come.
Oswalda was dooooope. I wasn’t sure how it would play, but she was at least as cold as any other penguin has ever been (killed her own kids? Gawdayum) but had a cool, interesting dynamic where she wasn’t on the outside looking in jealously at the high society, but was already in there, and comfortable in the spotlight. Very cool, very different. I’ve already watched the rest of the season, and hooboy y’all are in for a ride.

It's actually set in the late 1930s/early 40s. The outfit is from Batman's debut in 1939, except back then, his gloves were purple.
Quick correction: The crooked police officer in Batman 89 wasn't Bullock. It was lieutenent Eckhart. Usually Bullock is a hard ass, but not corrupt

It's based on the originally created Batman in 39-40s
I really liked this show it's a 9/10 from me. I had some criticisms but I overall enjoyed it. It's definitely not as bad as most people make it out to be. Honestly those people are just being dramatic.
If you rewatch, you see that Penguin has portraits of her sons in her dressing room. The lotion she throws splatters on the portrait of Aaron, her “favorite” son.
It really goes to show how cold she is.

I was definitely 50/50 with Oswalda and after episode one I still am. On the positive side Oswalda comes off as charismatic, somewhat clever, and ruthless; all character traits I enjoy watching. However, I cannot (completely) shake the fact that this is a gender swapped version of an already established character like the Penguin. They could’ve easily given another, preferably lesser known female character the spotlight and build them up to be a crime boss in the series; Magpie, Sofia Falcone, or even White Rabbit are some examples. Hell they could’ve brought back Roxy Rocket (Dark-horse idea).
At the end of the day, I loved the Va for Oswalda and even though I don’t like the decision to swap the character it’s clear that she’s here to stay; I can live with that.
I’m curious to see where/if they take this version of the Penguin further as the series progresses.
They do have a lot of more rogues to bring back and play with that could use spotlight, at the same time this is a new story/interpretation which is what comics and comic related media do aaalll the time. I think they hit the mark, it doesn't really take away from the version of penguin we're familiar with...I mean Penguin changes in other subtle ways every movie/comic story, their gender being different isn't really that wild of a difference imo. just my opinion tho i get where you're coming from cheers
