I just got off the Getaway this morning. It was my fourth cruise (all NCL) but my first solo cruise. It was 5 nights NYC to Bermuda. I really liked the ship a lot. I missed Broadway Unplugged but loved Million Dollar Quartet and Burn The Floor. I ate at Cagneys and Ocean Blue and both were excellent. I loved my first solo cruise so much I booked another on the Joy, also to Bermuda for 7 days, in May.
I've been thinking about doing the Betmuda 5 day solo cruise, but was concerned if the 5 day was long enough. Did you get to see & do everything you wanted, or did you get the feeling 5 days just wasn't enough time?
The best part about the Getaway is that it leaves from NYC which is a short flight from Toronto. We were on it last January and will be on it again later this month. The entertainment is great, especially Broadway Unplugged. We never had problems booking specialty dining once onboard, although it helps to be flexible about dining times. I'm sure people from warmer places would find the ice bar fun, but right now I can get the same experience by stepping into my back garden (minus 8 Celsius).
We have sailed on the breakaway and other breakaway class ships and the getaway is our favorite. As a matter of fact, we’re gonna be sailing on it in another 24 days.
We love standing at the aft at night and watching the wake disappear onto the darkness. You feel very small on this planet standing there! Will be on board in about a week for back to back cruises.
Hi Michael 👋 It's so funny that you mention it, every time I walk around the back of the ship at night I always feel like I need to stand as close to the insight wall as possible. I don't know why I always think I'll go flying off (but only at night, haha!). Back to back cruises, lucky you!! Please say hi to Paul and Atilla for me! 👋
Literally got off this morning. This was my first cruise ever. We did have a very rough time going to Bermuda on the sea day out however, it is winter in the Atlantic. I had the Vibe Beach Club which kept me from any crowd while in port. The Thermal Spa Suite was not worth it. It was crowded and many took to reserving chairs inside with sign’s saying not to. I was a solo traveler, not in a Solo Studio. Never had trouble reserving or finding a seat with a restaurant however I did all those bookings in advance. Hope to travel on it again in the future with the port out of NY so close to where I live. 🎉
We are sailing in the Getaway out if New Orleans in February. I am so glad they are closing off the smoking area. That was one of the worst things in the Breakaway and Escape. Other than that we really like these ships.
I went on the Getaway last year. It was not the best cruise, but part of that was my fault. One thing for sure, if the cruise is near-full then it is LOUD in all the public, indoor areas - ear-splittingly loud. Food was OK but everything on the buffet was bland. @CruisewithGrant is correct, the mojito bar makes a good drink, that's my go-to drink when I'm drinking rum.
Grant, I have to take issue with your description of the top deck. I sailed the Getaway in March 2023, and going again in April for a 10 day Caribbean. The top deck is massive and ample space to watch the Sailaway. The Vibe Beach Club, which I always book, is on the mezzanine deck above deck 15, right in the forward section. The ship is huge and there are ample deck spaces to watch the Sailaway, not to speak of Deck 7 and the Waterfront on Deck 8. I actually watch the sailaway (also from NYC) from Deck 15 and there was more than enough space. Otherwise, good video.
We were on the Getaway for 12 days for Christmas and New Year a few weeks ago and had a great time. We are loyal NCL cruisers. And the last cruise was our 3rd on the Getaway.
We are going on the Getaway next week. I've been on her years ago but from my understanding she went through a update in 2019?? I'm excited to do the ropes course again. I did purchase the thermal spa passes this time for my husband and I as I highly doubt we'll be able to use the pool and it's our 11 yr wedding anniversary. Looking forward to the Broadway show and Ocean Blue restaurant (have reservations for both). Above all just looking forward to just relaxing with my hubby and not having a million things we need to do!! ❤️

Was on the Joy ship this past June 2023 to Bermuda. They had the Texas Q restaurant. I was disappointed. It was not that great. It was my 3rd Norwegian cruise and first after Covid shut downs. It seemed like the food quality was not as good as before Covid shutdowns. No matter what time we went to the Garden Cafe the food was lukewarm. The only hot meals we got were specialty dining.

As you mentioned about the main dining room....like the Manhattan dining on the Escape, the main dining room is noisy and not really pleasant for a subdued dining experience. So the crew talked about the drydock/remodel during your cruise? That would be really nice if the smoking area is enclosed.
Our last cruise was on the NCL GEM, a much smaller ship. Kinda worried about the bigger crowd on the Getaway, hopefully it's not to much harder getting off and on at ports. What was your experience?

The layout is very different from the Breakaway / Plus class of ships, but I found it easy to get around. The also think the Epic has the best Bliss lounge of any of the NCL ships that I've been on. Of course the European style washrooms in the cabins are probably what most people take issue with, I travelled solo on this cruise so the shower in the room didn't bother me much at all. Keep those positive vibes, you'll be on a cruise so you'll have an amazing time! 🙌
Was also on the Epic in 2018 in a solo room. Nice inside room for one person but, the shower and bathroom in room was very very small. I had a good time.
Hey Grant, i was looking at booking on the Getaway in November, did they happen to say the month it was going into Drydock for the changes that you mentioned ?
Hi Jackie 👋 Yep, you'll be able to take in all of the entertainment including on a Transatlantic. Unfortunately there aren't as many broadway shows running on all of the NCL ships, but back when I was on the Breakaway I had the chance to see Six the Musical twice on my transatlantic. Will this be your first transatlantic? I love them!
Hi, sitting right now looking at a cruise with NCL Getaway, 9 days in the Greek Islands in September. Have not booked yet, but after traveling with Jade and Epic, I feel it is time to try one of NCL's larger ships;) Are Sunset bar and Spice H2O available on Getaway? Went last year with Epic, and loved H2O, so hope it is also available on Getaway.
The Norwegian Getaway was a horrific experience. It was dark and dingy. A man that's lives on the ship tried to steal my luggage as I was boarding. He followed me to my room. When I reported it they refused to take an official report. Why, because they were I believe prejudice. They followed African-Americans around the ship. At Bingo they played a song with the N word in it. When I told them, they said most people don't realize the word in the song. And on and on and on .............
Just sailed on the ship this week. Food is so bad. The ingredients are so low grade. Doesn’t matter where you dine. Norwegian sent us through a massive Atlantic storm for 20 straight hours. 20-30 waves. 70 mile hour winds. No warning and they knew because I check the weather leaving port and it was clear were being sent into a small hurricane strength storm. In no way was this safe you could even walk, shower. 2 days later I’m still dizzy. The ropes course you just eat Diesel fumes from the ships exhaust stakes. This ship is like riding in a low budget casino. Cigarette smoke smell nearly everywhere. Only the staff is decent. .25 stars out of 5
I will never cruise Norwegian again! We cruised Norwegian Encore & we’re so disappointed! No seafood unless you paid an arm & leg! Rude people (I know that’s not Norwegian’s fault but still), never talked to the same person when making plans to cruise…so many problems! Next time will choose someone else
Wow sorry to hear that. It is absolutely NCL's fault if the service sucked. That's what we pay for, a pleasant experience. I've been on 2 Norwegian cruises and had a great time both times

When is the getaway is supposed to go on drydock? do you have dates?
What's dry dock? I see a couple people asking that
ship is brought out of the sea for repairs and upgrades@@Mike-ju1vl
Getaway 2025.
Mmm Cagney's
Only the staff is decent. .25 stars out of 5
Do not go on Norwegian epic horror cruise. I took a trip to Dominican Republic on January 14 horrible customer service. Food is incredibly bad
