Goodness there are so many different restaurants and bars to choose from, you definitely won't go hungry. It's also nice to see what one of the staterooms is like. It is small, but you do have the whole boat to spread out on. And the water at Stirrup Cay looks so amazing! I wouldn't want to leave either!
Yeah the rooms are tiny, but like you said, it doesn't really matter so much when you have a whole ship to spread out on!
So glad you recovered your channel. I plan a lot of future trips based on your past videos. My last cruises were well over 10 years ago and they were nothing like this ship. I normally like to take all the tours off the ship but I would not mind staying aboard and trying everything on this one.
Thanks Bob. We're the same way and generally get off the ships to explore whenever possible, but we've also found that it can be really nice to be on the ship while in port because everything is so much less crowded and busy. We'll be interested to hear about your experience if you ever do decide to get back on a cruise ship again!

That cruise sounds wonderful! We cruised on the Escape twice and loved it. It's very similar to the Getaway from what we recall. We have not yet experience the Haven, but we sure hope to someday!

Yes, in the mid 80's on the SS Norway. Sailed to BVI, USVI, and the private islands. Travel then was very formal, changing clothes several times a day. Fun times back then (dating myself), though we have discussed taking a cruise out of Tampa on a moments notice.
Oh how we would love to see what a cruise ship was like in the 80's. We're guessing the BVI's and USVIs were even more beautiful back then than they are now. When we get to the point where we're both doing TH-cam fulltime, we think we'll hop on a lot of last minute cruises. Such great bargains to be had!

The private islands seem to always be our favorite part of the cruise, especially the ones where the drink packages works on the island! And yeah, that sustainable bar was probably the best bar experience we've ever had on a cruise ship. We were literally the only ones there most of the time. It's like nobody knew about it! It was definitely fun trying all of the meats at the Brazilian Steakhouse, although we found it quite odd that our favorite thing about it ended up being the shrimp off the salad bar!

Whoa very cool, I used to work on The Nordic Empress Norwegian Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises..was Diver/Medic and lived in Haiti and Bahamas (coco key)..94' ish.

Fantastic, detailed ship tour. Going on an 11 night Getaway cruise from Southampton in a few days. Upgraded to the Free at Sea Plus deal, which includes the premium plus drinks package, so means i get Starbucks for free, which will be very good.

We agree that three days isn't enough! How cool you stayed on it during the Olympics though.
This was a very well put together video. Crazy how different it was crowd wise compared to ours this March - I take it this was a Christmas cruise or somewhere around December? We sailed on the Escape in March, very similar ship layout, but the crowds were ferocious due to Spring Breakers. Still had a great time, and we had the Vibe pass, but seeing an empty Vibe on your ship was definitely a surprise. Ours wasn't packed, but always had 20+ people in it. Also on GSC, it appeared we had 2000+ extra people, which meant 10-15 min lines at the popular drink stations sometimes. But the best tip was what ya'll said: make sure you sign up for a Tender boat as soon as they are announced since you get to the chairs around 9 am or so, and you'll beat all the lines and have an extra hour or two to enjoy.
Our Getaway cruise was in the second week of December, so yes, not far from Christmas. You are right, the Getaway is very similar to the Escape. We sailed on the Escape a few years back and being on the Getaway was very much like being back on the Escape. We're sorry to hear about your experience sailing during spring break, but we're glad you still enjoyed your cruise. We accidentally booked a cruise on the Norwegian Epic during spring break a few years ago. We had no idea it was spring break until we got out on the main pool deck and found it to be packed with partying college kids 😂 The good news is that many of the more chill bars on the ship were almost completely empty most of the time!
@@Explorcation thanks for interacting with your viewers! even with the spring break crowd it (March 2023) was still a great cruise and there was actually a lot to laugh at when you went to people-watch at the main pool deck. The mr. Sexy legs competition was hilarious. But without the vibe pass, I'm sure we would have been a little bit more stressed out

Wow just saw your video of this ship tour and was my first visit and thought you did a fantastic job of the tour. Fully enjoyed the ship tour venues and your thoughts on food and drinks. Was on that ship 🚢 a few years back and have to admit it as well ….it had to be the smallest inside cabin we ever had. We don’t spent too much time in our cabin so we don’t care as much but beside being that tiny we also thought it was laking in storage place.

We agree that those inside staterooms are ridiculously small, so we were pretty ecstatic to get the balcony upgrade (although the storage was still a bit lacking)... but we only spend about an hour a day of awake time in our room anyway... so like you said, not a big deal!
The Vibe was great to be in, only like 30 people signed up so it was very private and always had a free hot tub and bar seat.

Love this tour! I was actually looking at a cruise itinerary on the Getaway. So neat to see some of the differences on the ships like the Illusionarium and some of the floor plans. Definitely looks very similar to the Bliss and Escape that we were on as our last cruises. Nice to see the stateroom too - we did an inside cabin on Norwegian Jade once and it looked even smaller than yours!
Yeah, we found a LOT of similarities to the Escape (which we've sailed on a couple times) and also the Bliss (from watching your tour). We normally don't care too much about the size of the cabin, but a room even smaller than the one we were in would not be ideal 😂

We've only gone on the massive Norwegian ships so far, but would love to check out some of the smaller ones like the Sky, Jewel, and Pearl. Hopefully we'll get a chance to sometime soon! I'm sailing on this ship later this year so it was neat to see what everything looks like onboard. Question about the private island eateries. Are they complimentary or are there a la carte charges, or are some free and others with charges, just like onboard the ship? Didn't realize there was so much to experience on the private island. Looks like you both had a wonderful time on your cruise, and thank you for sharing this.
The little stand that we ate at with the sandwiches and ceviche was complimentary, as was taco stand and the stand with the baked goods. And of course the big buffet on the island is complimentary as well. I can't recall seeing any food spots on the island that were not complimentary, but there could have been. There is definitely a lot to experience on the island, and we hope our video helps you to make the most of your time on it!
Early 2022, my wife and I were on the Breakaway, sister ship to the Getaway. The only difference I have detected so far is the Cigar lounge. (I do like my cigars), Late last year, we were on the Sky. I really enjoyed the Breakaway and highly recommend it, but the Sky was a very serious disappointment.
We almost booked cruises on the Breakaway a couple different times, and remember thinking as well that it seemed very similar to the Getaway. Unfortunately I've not heard the best reviews about Norwegian's smaller, older ships (including the Sky), so we'll definitely stick with the newer ones.
I so enjoyed this trip with y'all! I've never taken a cruise but this video sure makes me want to book one. Question: will you be offering any advice on cost of this particular cruise? And where it originates? My bestie lives in St. Pete so we are thinking about taking a cruise out of Tampa Bay. Any advice on which line we should book from there? Hey Rhonda. We're not sure at this point if we'll do a second episode on this particular ship/cruise. We might if this first episode performs really well. But in case we don't, this cruise was $520 per person, but we had a cruise credit from a prior Norwegian sailing, which made this cruise quite a bit less expensive for us. The cruise sailed out of Port Canaveral, and went to Nassau and the Norwegian Private Island Great Stirrup Cay.
As far as sailing out of Tampa goes, the options are a bit limited because most cruise ships nowadays are due big to sail under the Skyway bridge. That said, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Celebrity all do sail at least one ship out of Tampa. We generally avoid Carnival and while we like Norwegian, the ship they sail out of Tampa are small and old and we haven't' heard the best reviews of it. We actually did sail out of Tampa on the Serenade of the Seas and made a video on it. It's a pretty good ship. The best option in our opinion is the Celebrity Ship. They have by far the best food, drinks, and service. You won't find much for activities (no rock climbing wall, waterslides, etc...) and therefore there's not a lot of kids and it's quieter. That said, the Celebrity cruises are more expensive, especially if you pay for the option to have your drinks included.
If you want more options outside of Tampa, Port Canaveral is only around a 2.5 hour drive away, but driving on I-4 can be a nightmare. We would highly recommend using the search tool on vacationstogo.com. You'll have to register an email address, but can then use their search tool which allows you to sort cruises by a number of criteria, including departure port, sail dates, price, cruise line, ship rating, etc... We use it all the time!

I think we got the drink package names mixed up with MSC... which we had just sailed on right before this cruise. But yeah, I'm pretty sure Premium Plus is what we had meant to say. Nice catch!

As always you guys are wonderful great job until we got to the room my wife is extremely claustrophobic me not so much but I am ex-military and one of my training is always being ready to get out LOL I had a sense of looking at that room saying no way so we definitely would have to get a room with Bayview :-)
Oh yeah if you are a claustrophobic person, an interior stateroom on a cruise ship is not a good place for you! We spend next to no time in our stateroom during the day and find that we sleep great in the interior room at nights (they are very dark), but definitely would still opt for the balcony room every time if prices are remotely comparable. If you are just interested about the cost of various cruises in general we highly recommend the website vacationstogo.com. They have a great search tool that we use all the time. You can organize them by price, length, departure point, and all sorts of other criteria.

Wife and I are on our way home after finishing a 2 week Carribean cruise. We've been with NCL exclusively since 2014. Sadly, the decline in the guest experience is noticeable. Entertainment on board has been reduced. Previously there was a singer in almost every lounge. No more, just in a few. Entertainment on the pool deck is spotty. Little organized activities. Also the buffet has reduced hours and now CLOSES at 9:30 pm. This was a big topic of conversation on-board! Specialty restaurants have switched to a cheaper cut of filet mignon. It's no longer melt in your mouth. Much less tender. I left it 1/2 eaten. The hostess came over to apologize but it's not her fault. The filet medallions in Moderno are a lesser quality also. Teppanyaki, the Japanese restaurant, no longer serves filet. Switched out for NY Strip of fair quality. We get chocolate covered strawberries in our stateroom upon arrival. They used to be LARGE and delicious. Now they're tiny and mushy. The guest experience has declined very much! Also, in our 9th floor balcony stateroom, you hear toilets flushing through the walls all morning and late at night. So ANNOYING! NCL is pinching pennies at the expense of their passengers. Very dissatisfied.
However, I can't praise the staff enough. They work so hard on our behalf. Get service by them!! What are your experiences in the decline of NCL?
Sorry to hear about your experience with the decline of the Norwegian Cruise experience. Our Norwegian cruises have been pretty spaced out, and maybe why that's why we haven't noticed much of a decline. We will say that our favorite Norwegian Cruise was on the Epic around 5 or 6 years ago... I'm not sure we'll ever have that much fun on a Norwegian cruise again.
Hello, Did you go to the land/ shore ? Do we have to pay for getting off the ship?? What phone carrier did you use for Wi-Fi or internet service?
We have T-Mobile, which generally has pretty good rates on the islands. We usually do get off the ship, except on days when we are filming the ship tour. We've never been to a port where you actually had to pay to get off of the ship.

Only the coffee at the buffet was included in our drink package. We had to pay extra for our lattes from Starbucks or from O'Sheehan's.

Absolutely. It's a huge ship so we really hope that this video helps first time cruisers on the ship to know their way around once get onboard!

Are the pools chlorine or salt water?
I believe they are saltwater pools, however I've heard that saltwater pools on cruise ships still usually do contain some chlorine also.

So when we were on the Getaway there was a menu outside of Shanghai with prices on it... but we've had a few other people tell us since then that it is free. So we're thinking that there might be some dishes that are complimentary and other that you have to pay extra for... not positive though.

@@alyssasimon3940 unfortunately we are not sure, it has been quite some time since we sailed on this ship, I went to Norwegian's website for The Getaway and am wondering if it is now called The Sunset Bar. I hope they still make the sustainability cocktails somewhere as it was a really cool concept.
I sailed on the Pride Of America around Hawaii in 2019. The islands were amazing but the ship… not so much. I’m not a fan of NCL. Royal Caribbean is my favorite cruise line.
Thanks for sharing, Deborah! We dream of doing a Hawaii cruise and will hopefully make it happen within the next year or two. We do enjoy certain aspects of Norwegian's newer ships, especially the outdoor dining and bars on the side of the ship and the 24 hour complimentary sports bar. That said, we've never had a bad experience on Royal Caribbean (or Celebrity) and find even their older ships to be great.
@@Explorcation Norwegians Pride of America ship is the only one that sails all the islands. I see that it was recently refurbished in 2021 ….the thing we didn’t like about it was not all the bars were open at the same time and you could only get beer and wine at a lot of the bars, and had to go to a certain bar to get mixed drinks which we thought was ridiculous. I’m sure the ship you were on was not like that we’ve sailed carnival, Princess in the Mediterranean ,Royal, Caribbean and Norwegian and Royal Caribbean is our favorite. I love your videos, and I hope you make it to Hawaii soon you will love it!

Cruising is definitely not for everyone. I (Skylar) don't particularly love the crowds either, but we've cruised enough now where we're pretty good at finding the sections of the ship that we can have nearly all to ourselves. Of course sometimes the crowds are pretty much unavoidable.
