This is your step by step master class in Learning How To Cut a Short Shag Haircut suitable for both Woman and Men.
Appropriate to all ages and genders who want to rock an amazing fun haircut shape.
What is a Shullet haircut?
The Shullet is a modern variation of the classic mullet hairstyle, featuring short or shaved sides and a longer, shaggy top. It combines elements of a shag haircut with the distinctive mullet shape.
How do you achieve a Shullet hairstyle?
Achieving a Shullet involves trimming the sides short or shaving them entirely while leaving the top longer and layered. The result is a contrast between the shorter sides and the longer, shaggy top.
Who popularized the Shullet haircut?
The Shullet gained popularity as a contemporary take on the mullet, with influencers, stylists, and celebrities embracing the style and showcasing it on social media platforms.
What are some variations of the Shullet?
Variations of the Shullet include different lengths and textures on the top, varying degrees of undercut or shaved sides, and personalized styling elements such as bangs or fringe.
Is the Shullet suitable for all hair types?
The Shullet can be adapted to suit various hair types, although it typically works best with medium to thick hair that has some natural texture. Styling products may be needed to enhance or control the hair's texture.
Can women pull off the Shullet haircut?
Yes, women can rock the Shullet haircut just as stylishly as men. The versatility of the style allows for customization to suit different hair lengths, textures, and personal preferences.
What face shapes does the Shullet haircut complement?
The Shullet haircut can complement a range of face shapes, including oval, square, and heart-shaped faces. However, individuals with round faces may want to consider adjustments to the style to balance proportions.
Are there any celebrities known for sporting a Shullet?
While not as widely recognized as some other hairstyles, several celebrities and influencers have been spotted sporting the Shullet, contributing to its rise in popularity.
What are some trendy ways to style a Shullet?
Trendy styling options for the Shullet include tousled texture, messy waves, slicked-back looks, and incorporating accessories like headbands or hair clips to add flair to the style.
How does the Shullet differ from other mullet styles?
The Shullet distinguishes itself from traditional mullet styles with its emphasis on a longer, shaggy top combined with shorter or shaved sides, creating a more contemporary and versatile look.
What is razor haircutting?
Razor haircutting is a hairstyling technique where a razor blade, rather than scissors, is used to cut the hair. It creates softer, textured edges and can result in a more natural, lived-in look.
How does razor cutting differ from traditional scissor cutting?
Razor cutting differs from traditional scissor cutting in that it creates softer, more textured edges compared to the clean lines achieved with scissors. The razor's slicing action removes hair in a different manner, resulting in a different overall look and feel.
Is razor cutting suitable for all hair types?
Razor cutting can be suitable for various hair types, including straight, wavy, and curly hair. However, it may not be recommended for extremely fine or fragile hair types, as the razor's slicing action can cause damage if not used carefully.

I had a shag cut in 1971 when I was a 'tween. I was about to go on a lengthy, overseas trip and my mom decided my almost waist-length hair would be an encumbrance. I looked great and was thrilled to have a "mod" hairstyle. NO stylist today seems to understand how to approach cutting a shag - particularly directing forward to the guide, around the face, which creates that all important cheekbone framing, and then the continued use of diagonal sectioning, back of the ear. WELL. DONE.
I'm glad you found this tutorial helpful, the cheekbone framing is key!
had a shag in the 70's . Have thin hair. Best cut I ever had and he said I should always have a razor cut. Today hard to find someone to do razor cut. Thanks for your video
You are most welcome. Glad you liked it
I had both a shag in about 1972 in 7th grade, and a mullet as a young woman in the mid 1980s. The mullet was great for my thick, wavy, fine hair, and it was fun! I like the style in this video, and am considering it for my next major style change, but my hair has to be longer in the back. 😊
"Thank you for sharing your hair journey-what a fun history of styles! 😊 It’s so great to hear that the mullet worked so well for your thick, wavy hair back in the day. I’m thrilled you like the style in this video! Adding length in the back can definitely give it that extra versatility you’re after. Let me know if you have any questions or need tips when you’re ready to make the change-I’d love to help!"
This is pretty much how I do my hair.
I’ve been cutting it myself ever since I grew it out, using TH-cam videos to guide me. This is definitely one of the most informative I’ve found. Very good work!

Beautiful. Question :
Did you connect the sides with the back?
Sometimes I dont know how to connect the sides when I cut the front forward.
Hey! When you over direct forward, you are gradually building weight towards to the back zone. This is what connects it. If the hair is short it may not connect, as long as it visually looks good thats all that matters
@HairByJamesAnnabel alright I will work with a doll to cut a shag, wolf and then the mullet. Thanks for the tip

Hey! thank you for watching
Sorry, but I just can't like razors
I feel sorry for the hair.
But I love your work, it's flawless!
"Thanks so much for the kind words! I totally get where you're coming from-razors aren’t for everyone, and that's what makes hairdressing so unique! It's all about finding the tools and techniques that work best for each style and client. Appreciate the love, though! 💕"
Would you recommend this technique on wavy hair that's not quite as thick as your mannequin?
Yes this haircut works perfectly for finer and thinner hair textures
Wow this is fantastic .....
Glad you like it, thanks for watching
