Full Flight: United Express E175 Washington D.C. to Newark (DCA-EWR)

- Hey guys! In this video, I travel aboard a United Express E175 up the east coast to Newark, New Jersey from Washington D.C.! As I mention in the video, United has their main hub at Dulles International Airport located 26 miles west of downtown DC, so this was a rather unique experience flying them out of National Airport. I do much prefer flying out of DCA vs IAD as this airport is so much more efficient and I love the historical aspects of it. Half of Dulles is a dump and the only time you get to fly out of the good terminal is when you fly international or on another domestic airline besides United. As this video was shot in early July, travel was still way down and it definitely showed everywhere around DCA and EWR. I've never been to Newark before, but Reagan was a ghost town compared to how it usually is filled with people. As for the flight, United does a much better job than American when it comes to COVID precautions and therefore the experience was a little better. They do not block seats but the flight was pretty empty so I still had a whole row to myself. The worst part was the seats. They're definitely one of the hardest out there on a legacy carrier, but I always enjoy flying aboard E175s and the views didn't disappoint. Hope you guys enjoy!

My dad and i will be doing this same flight. Except were going out of PVD-TF Green Providence, RI to Newark. I didn't think they'd have beverage or snack service after all this is a city hopper flight. Most of which are an hour and under in duration. The E175 on Republic via United is a nice small jet it's got plenty of space. Especially if your in first class or premium economy. We flew in premium economy seats 7A & B right behind the curtain. My window seat was fine. However, my dads legs were sticking out a bit into the aisle but nobody bumped him. Since there was no beverage carts or service of that kind. Plus, if you book those seats make sure someone is sitting in 7B. Because if the flight is full many folks sit in that seat if it's empty waiting to use the restroom at the front of the jet. So if your trying to snooze you'll have strangers getting up and down next to you if your in 7A. Plus, there is no under seat storage in 7B only in 7A under the first class seat in front of you. The plus is these seats have more legroom than in first class...!!! So even though the seats are a bit narrow you have MORE than enough leg room. Embraer makes good jets they are quiet and efficient. Although they have stiff competition now with the Airbus A220-100 & 300 variants. Especially the Embraer E195 which is the largest variant and will compete with the A220-100. United is a great airline though and i rank them just as good as Delta.

I don't recall ever flying in or out of DCA, just IAD and yes it is somewhat dumpy lol..very 1980's.

Howdy, absolutely amazing trip report as always Mr.Jazz! UA is really up’d there game and while they haven surpassed Jet Blue, they have now tied SWA and AA for my favorite U.S Carrier! EWR Terminal C has got to be one of my favorite airport terminals, though I love the direction LGA is going and when it’s done, we’ll have another European worthy airport! Also, I actually prefer IAD to DCA because it is much more spacious, and out of KLEX, UA has the best D.C flights, though I haven’t personally been in any of them! I love BWI, but it’s main con is that, unless your a hub for JB, AA, UA, DL, AC, WJ, or AK, or a focus city for one of the ULCC’s, or a city that has some SWA action, there ain’t any direct flights, while IAD has direct flights to tons of cities like Lexington and Northwest West Virginia Regional!😸😸

the immediate left turn after taking off is for noise abatement, not avoiding the white house; aircraft have to stay over the Potomac River to lessen the impact on the heavily populated areas around the airport.
I have worked the 3497 many a time and it’s typically the go home leg for the crew so I’m sure 36 mins was truly 36 mins lol
These E-175’s are about to get even more comfortable-UAL is removing a few seats (6 total) bringing the total number down to 70 as per some new labor agreement regarding furloughed pilots in this new Covid era. The new seat maps are already on their website and any of the airframes ending in a “UX” have already been reconfigured (UX = Ex ExpressJet, now flying SkyWest). I have a feeling it’s going to be a long while to get all other 175’s reconfigured but it is in the works.

Great video as always. But for me sitting in a departure area waiting for a flight to Newark is so depressing. I hate going home to there after a trip.
Nothing more depressing to me me than hearing “ Ladies and Gentlemen Welcome to Newark” !!! I usually arrive in at Terminal A, soon to be the old Terminal A. Very tired and run down terminal. But great job on this and all your other vids. The one thing I will give EWR is the views whether coming in day or night, they can be fantastic !!!! cant wait for your next one. Smooth skies
I hope you're only talking about your experience at Terminal A because I have flown out of EWR Terminal C and that terminal felt pretty decent

My first flight on an E-175 was IAH-MSP, wasn't thrilled with the window alignment,makes it very difficult to film--I had to constantly lean forward to get a decent view--the cabin feels cramped,like you,I"m 6' and didn't find the legroom favorable. I haven't flown into EWR since the late 80's when Continental ruled the roost--back in the glory days of MD-80's and 727-200's--in '89,flew IAH-EWR,EWR-BGR,both on MD-80's--my understanding is that UA is returning to JFK in the near future,perhaps a future trip report?
What is flying on JetBlue like these days? I’d like to hear from other passengers before I get on a plane in three weeks.
I have a few vids shot on them coming up, but probably not before you travel. JetBlue's one of the best and safest airlines in the US right now (they block seats, give plenty of wipes & sanitizer, have very clean aircraft, and board from back to front), so you should be fine!

More into DCA rather then IAD its closer to the capital plus my brother lives in DC and he doesnt like to drive to Dulles to get me so i have to take a cab which is ridiculous. but pretty soon all of national hall will be through the security checkpoint so you dont have to wait at the 3 separate ones for terminals B, B/C and C. expected to open in 2021 for the summer rush. never flown United to DCA hows the little area the gates are at it said its the worst and i need some clarification on that so i wont fly United to DCA if i dont have too.

It always seems that UA has the worst and most outdated gates at non hub airports. Of course the United concourses at Dulles are ugly too.
