For me here in Texas it is that time of year when it is the coldest and we are thinking about gloves. I have never knit them and am thinking that they could be a portable project while I take my son to radiation treatments. Thank you for being such a great teacher.
Oh my god, just found your channel by luck and now it looks like the dream to knit gloves for the first time seems to be near. Thank you for this great step by step guide.
I must admit, gloves have never been high on my list of things I want to try knitting. One main reason is my own time constraints, but aside from that, it just seemed complicated and I have been content with knitting scarves, blankets, hats, and such more basic items. However, you teach in such a thorough, yet easily comprehensible way, that I think I can do it… as soon as I finish this blanket! ;). Thank you for such great videos and for doing what you do!
You are phenomenal! I just subscribed and love your personality as well as your videos. As a past teacher, I can tell you you really are a great and thorough teacher with a wonderful attention to detail. I love your clear and concise way of instructions. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of knitting with all of your viewers.😊
Love, love, love your videos. Thank you so much! Gloves were another knitting bucket list item. Only change I made was to knit the fingers using Beverly Royce's double knitting. You knit the "tube" on two needles. Keep the videos coming.....
Thank you Norman for this tutorial! I've always had problems with the pinky finger and was trying to figure out how I could make the gloves actually fit because the pinky finger was lower. Your explanation of how to make the pinky finger was awesome! I have referred to this video many times and suggested it to my friend! Thank You.
Brilliant! Thankyou Norman, i am so glad i will no longer need to rely on patterns where the woman's size is too small for me but the men's size is a bit too large.
PERFECTION!!! I'm learning (beg to intermediate) knitting. I normally do not look at advance projects. But I knew u would b thorough and precise. TY for the perfect glove tutorial when I reach advanced knitting.
Hi Norman. Thank you so much for making these tutorials. I so appreciate your linear approach to fixing common knitting problems and watching your videos has improved the quality of my knitting tenfold. As it applies to this video, I’ve been unable to master using DPs and my attempt to use them here, to knit the pinky finger, quickly became disastrous. Instead of using DPs, I used three (3) circulars, shorter in length, which for me, I found significantly easier to manage. For example, ChiaoGoo makes a 9" circular that allowed the stitches to easily sit on the wire, as well as, both sides to sit close together, which eliminated creating “ladders” that frequently occur when using the magic loop method.
I have knitted my own designed gloves for the past 4 years. You showed a lot of techniques I have discovered, but the thumb gusset was a good idea. Most patterns are for mittens or fingerless gloves which I find useless. Thank you for your videos
I was looking for a glove pattern online two days ago so this is well timed. Before I have always knitted gloves on two needles and sewed them up. I am looking forward to giving this a try.
yes, that was basically my intention. I wanted people to give the resource to knit gloves for hands that may be a bit shorter...or maybe there's one digit missing etc. All these sort of things. It's a bit difficult to put it all in one video but I sure wanted to make an attempt!
I found this while trying to make a pair of gloves for my perpetually cold hands, and this video was supremely helpful. The tips and tricks here fixed a lot of the problems with my first (unaided) attempt, and the end result fits like...well :) Many thanks for the tutorial!
What a perfectionist you are. Very nice. I have knitted several pairs of gloves and always had to tidy up by darning round the base of fingers afterwards. This makes things rather clearer and I will put some of your techniques into practice next time. Thanks. Happy New Year.
Omg. I am going to have to buy some new dpns and yarn! I have made gloves in the past, but hated the holes at the gaps between each finger, so I have refused to make them. This video makes me want to try it again.
Thank you so much! I have been trying to work on a method to decrease those holes for ages! Every time I think I have it, it is not so great in my real project/yarn. I can’t wait to give this a try!
Norman, you are a wonder teacher. I understood what you were going go say before you said it. I am VERY encouraged and saved the pattern on my download. I had a pair of angora mittens but lost them but was surprised how warm they were. I am sticking to your channel to work up to making gloves. May do mittens first. Thank you x3!
Thanks so much. I've been looking for a video that explains how to do the left hand's offset thumb. I was trying to guess how to do that with magic loop which is the way i chose to learn knitting in the round so now I'm ready to try by not doing those initial 2 stitches like on the right hand. instead after listening to you i think for magic loop I should knit around and stop (with worsted weight) about 3 stitches before the end of the back needle with both needles parallel as always with magic loop. I was pretty nervous to try this. With your video I'm ready to give it a shot :) I love magic loop as I can, and do continue the thumb with them and it works fine in case anyone feels like trying it. I've now subscribed and liked your channel. your attention to detail is fantastic!
Hi Norman. Great tutorial! I’ve never knitted gloves but if I ever do I will definitely be watching this tutorial over and over again. You gave such great tips on how to handle issues that frequently come up. As much as I don’t like math, your instruction was easy to follow. Stellar video! Thanks for sharing! Love all 3 of your gloves! Thanks!🤗🤗
yah...math ..i can't say I'm the biggest fan of math either...but sometimes there's no way around it. Well, for the fingers you can use your swatch and wrap it around and count stitches. I had a section about this in the video but had to cut it out because the video is already too long, lol.
Super Tutorial! The tips for the thumb especially with the crochet hook were such a game changer for me! I just finished fingerless gloves and now I am more sure about making gloves with fingers ☺️Thank you 😀
i have a great patters for fingerless gloves that uses all these same methods and they fit great. I am very impressed with your methods! That pattern is worked starting with making the finger tubes tho, and then once you have them all made, you join them together, work the hand, and decrease to the cuff, adding the thumb when you come to that point. I am excited to try your method for cuff-up working and then see if I can also flip your pattern over and work down to the cuff. I love finding new patterns and playing around with them, so thanks for such a great walkthrough!
@@NimbleNeedles they are kept live and held on stitch holders. you use the tails from the fingers to sew up between the fingers at the end to close up any holes left after joining them.

I was so happy to find your video when I was trying to intuitively figure out, well actually I was knitting a glove by feel. How wonderful to have your guidance thank you Norman!!! so excited I will post my results
Norman… you are FABULOUS! You are the best tutorial channel and you are just delightful to watch and listen to. It’s like having my best friend over to chat and knit. Thank you so much God Bless you !
that's a bit like how I feel about comments here on youtube. They definitely make me feel less lonely in my knitting.
You deserve a cuppa, and I just sent you one. Savor it and drink it in good health. Your work is immaculate. Thank you
aww...thank you very much for your (continuing) support. It is much appreciated
Norman you are my favorite knitting TH-camr. When I get double pointed needles I'll have to try this pattern out!
Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into these videos! They're all so well done-- nobody else on TH-cam explains things like you do! Your videos inspired me to pick up knitting again after a few years of being bored with basic hats and scarves. I knit something I've never done before and learned so many new techniques! Thanks, Norman!
oh wow Daniel. That's quite some feedback. Very happy to hear I could bring you back to this amazing hobby! :)
Yes, your right he's a star to teach so well.
Gloves always seemed incredibly daunting to me, so I'm beyond grateful for all the work you've put into this tutorial. You explained everything very so thoroughly I'm not afraid to try knitting my first pair now. Thank you! This is better than any pattern I could buy.
I save your videos, & play them over & over if necessary. These gloves are complex & so very nice. Thank you for your fine expertise. Your time is valuable & I’m so grateful.
You are so welcome, Frances. And sure, watch my videos however many times you need. That's what they are for, after all.
Thank you for sharing these tips! This is the first time I feel like the gloves fit correctly. Everything made perfect sense as you said it. I don't know why I'd never thought of it before.
Glad it was helpful, Katrin. I poured in a lot of work to create this tutorial and find a recipe that advanced knitters might understand.
Thank you Norman, for all the time and effort that you put into making these videos! I've been wanting to make lace weight gloves for a long time now. Thank you for sharing your recipe 😊 You are so wonderful 💜
Your timing is perfect. I was just looking for a pattern for this and my favorite TH-cam knitting person, you, is teaching gloves and you have all the best tips and tricks. Thank you so much, Norman!
so many have said that..guess I read the public mind, lol :)
Thank you for this great step by step guide.
give it a try and be patient with yourself. It's totally doable but may require one practise glove :)
Thank You.
You're very welcome!
Brilliant! Thankyou Norman, i am so glad i will no longer need to rely on patterns where the woman's size is too small for me but the men's size is a bit too large.
hopefully my little recipe will be able to help you along. and you can always comment in case you are stuck :)
@@NimbleNeedles Thankyou, much appreciated.😊
PERFECTION!!! I'm learning (beg to intermediate) knitting. I normally do not look at advance projects. But I knew u would b thorough and precise. TY for the perfect glove tutorial when I reach advanced knitting.
you are very welcome
For example, ChiaoGoo makes a 9" circular that allowed the stitches to easily sit on the wire, as well as, both sides to sit close together, which eliminated creating “ladders” that frequently occur when using the magic loop method.
you might want to look into the addi addiCraSyTrio needles. Maybe that might be a good solution for you :) Google it and thank me later :P
Ohh thank u from Turkey, it was very easy with ur video. I made it short finger version :)
I’m working on gloves now. After watching this, I’ll be starting over.
I have knitted 4 hats thanks to your pattern and they are awesome. I will definitely give the gloves a go. Norman is fabelhaft.
wow...you sure have been busy! Feel free to share a picture any time :)
I have knitted my own designed gloves for the past 4 years. You showed a lot of techniques I have discovered, but the thumb gusset was a good idea. Most patterns are for mittens or fingerless gloves which I find useless. Thank you for your videos
I don't like mittens a lot either..i dunno. As I love to take pictures, fingerless gloves come in kinda handy, tho.
I was looking for a glove pattern online two days ago so this is well timed. Before I have always knitted gloves on two needles and sewed them up. I am looking forward to giving this a try.
perfect, Jowett! Hope you will find this helpful and feel free to come back and ask your questions here, right? :)
This is extremely informative like books i appreciate this video a lot
Love this video. My brother has one hand with fingers significantly smaller than the other. Knit him custom gloves for Christmas.
yes, that was basically my intention. I wanted people to give the resource to knit gloves for hands that may be a bit shorter...or maybe there's one digit missing etc. All these sort of things. It's a bit difficult to put it all in one video but I sure wanted to make an attempt!
I just started gloves for my teen yesterday 🙌. Perfect
oh wow..what a perfect timing. Hope you can use some of my suggestions for your project.
@@NimbleNeedles I am definitely trying out your pearl cast on for the first time on a glove. I usually use the stretchy loop method.
I found this while trying to make a pair of gloves for my perpetually cold hands, and this video was supremely helpful. The tips and tricks here fixed a lot of the problems with my first (unaided) attempt, and the end result fits like...well :) Many thanks for the tutorial!
very happy to hear this Hannah!
What a perfectionist you are. Very nice. I have knitted several pairs of gloves and always had to tidy up by darning round the base of fingers afterwards. This makes things rather clearer and I will put some of your techniques into practice next time. Thanks. Happy New Year.
definitely try to do that and tell me how it went (or come back and ask questions :))
Beautiful joins! This is knitting engineering, thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
Omg. I am going to have to buy some new dpns and yarn! I have made gloves in the past, but hated the holes at the gaps between each finger, so I have refused to make them. This video makes me want to try it again.
awesome. Yes, gloves can be a problem i think, and I have been there as well...and this is precisely the reason why I came up with my own recipe ^^
Thank you x3!
mittens will definitely be easier and maybe give you the confidence to move on to something more elaborated :)
I've now subscribed and liked your channel. your attention to detail is fantastic!
welcome to my channel and glad you can make things work!
I don't knit, but your tutorial can be easily converted to a crocheted project as well. So thank you for your guidance.
That’s ok. I understand. You packed a lot in this video. Well done!
I love finding new patterns and playing around with them, so thanks for such a great walkthrough!
interesting. do you knit the fingers separately and keep live stitches or bind off when you knit top down?
@@NimbleNeedles they are kept live and held on stitch holders. you use the tails from the fingers to sew up between the fingers at the end to close up any holes left after joining them.
My first pair of gloves look perfect.❤
Thank you Norman.
Awesome!!!
Awesome, need a new project when I'm done my blanket and my son prefers fingered gloves for playing. Thanks for the amazing tutorial as always Norman.
You are so welcome!
Norman, you are such a wonderful teacher! I have never had a desire to knit gloves ......until now. It will be quite a challenge, but I look forward to it with your instructions! Thank you for this tutorial and all your videos. They are always so thoughtful and helpful. ❤️
You are so welcome, cat :)
Thank you, Norman! I love listening to your video tutorials!
Happy to hear that, Karen!
Anyone else knitted the pinky finger next to the thumb? 😅
Keep up the good work!
freut mich zu hören Axel, dass dir meine Video geholfen hat auch wenn der kleine FInger da vielleicht hm...ja das könnte eng werden ^^
Hi 👋 Norman! Happy to see you back from your B-day mini vacation...great tutorial.
Thanks for watching and yeah...that mini vacation was needed an very relaxing :)
Thank you Norman! I do enjoy your instructions. I am working on a pair of mitts and have come to the segment to begin a thumb gusset. The instructions read M1, M1, pm then continue with one round of pattern. I believe you clarified it for me that a M1 also includes a K1 before the second M1. 🧤🧤🧤🥊 oops haha
StitchedbyMimi
Thank you. I love your rainbow double point needles
Great video. I had bad been looking for a video like this, you have address all the issues I have come up when knitting gloves. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
excellant tutorial, my first pair are gloves have been made. thank you so much.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, and for free (this is a huge work, I think your effort should be paid). I’ve found you recently and I’m a big fan of your work. Thank you!
Yeah, but I feel such basic patterns shoudl be available for free because not everyone can afford a pattern. And besides, those that want to support my work, can always buy me a coffee. I always put a link in the description and as the first comment :)
Didn’t see it! Enjoy the coffee 👍🏻!
That cast on is very clever! I tried it for the first time today!
Great to hear!
Great gloves and instructions, you are a perfectionist! However, I think I'll start off with a pair of mittens....
heh ;-)
Good morning from California! Just found you a few days ago and now a new subscriber. I’m excited about all your knowledge. I really want to learn how to make gloves, (maybe mittens first ☺️). Can’t wait to watch a few times to learn. Thank you 💕💃🏻
Hey there. Welcome to my channel! Yes, mittens might be a bit easier to start out. Or you try gloves and if you don't like the look, you just unravel the fingers and continue according to any mitten pattern :) Up until the palm, things are pretty much the same, after all.
FABULOUS tutorial! You are an expert knitter and an expert teacher. We are so lucky that you spend an incredible amount of time and effort to produce such outstanding videos. Thank you! I can't wait to make a pair! Have a wonderful day. 😀
You are so welcome, Jane!
Thankyou I've received my free glove pattern looking forward to knitting them on dpns. I usually make gloves on 2 needles
Gloves or mittens? But sure, you could try this pattern with circular as well 🤔
@@NimbleNeedles I've used circular needles the only thing I'm not great with having to do maths 😕 to measure and work out stitches???
@@Helga051 that certainly is not the easiest task. But it's a very necessary one. Just compare your hands with your friends and you will quickly notice that they are all quite different. So, if you ask me, knitting well fitting gloves without measuring and trying on is quite impossible
@@NimbleNeedles well said .I actually borrowed a knitting/crochet book from my library that show you how to do all the measurements yay.
Thank you for your really clear demonstration.
You are more than welcome!
ich finde Deine Tutorials so super gut. Alles ist so klasse erklärt und gut nach zu stricken. Danke für Deine Videos 🙏
Herzliche Grüße aus München🥰
grüße zurück - ebenfalls aus München ;-)
I am recently transitioning to intermediate knitter... And well... 🤯
I have so much to learn 😅
Excellent! I never thought to even try knitting gloves but you have inspired me to do so😊. Thank you, Norman. As always, you are the best!
awsome. you can do it!
I also your idea of casting on too. Plus I have done both techniques for German Twisted Cast On so I'd like to try it
This is an amazing instructional video.
Thank you Norman another excellent video as always you have such a talent x
Many thanks, Elaine!
Thank you so much for that awesome detailed guide! Love your work and can't wait to finish the 2nd glove.
You are so welcome!
Thanks Norman for your impressive tutorial !!!!!!🇺🇸
My pleasure, Argelia!
Fantastically in-depth and meticulous, as always. I'm not going to lie, I am still a bit intimidated by gloves, but this video with the tips and tricks makes me think that I might actually be able to make a pair :)
it sure is an advanced pattern - so take your time and go slowly, if you decide to start a pair.
Wow you are a master. I'm so keen on trying out this pattern. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge :)
You are so welcome!
I'm so excited about this video, Norman. I'm really looking forward to knitting these gloves.
Awesome. Now you can knit along with me :) (I am currently working on one more pair..a bit more fancy, tho ;-))
@@NimbleNeedles Yay!
I was planning on adding some stranded color work because it's fun.
Hello from Turkey/ Marmaris
Thanks lovely video....
:) 😀
Thank you! 😃 and greetings from Germany :)
