  • VINTAGE Glass, Farmhouse Decor & ANTIQUE DEALS | RESELLING for Profit
    We're getting schooled in this video! Preservation Station in West Louisville, Kentucky is a unique antique destination, a brick 1950s country schoolhouse that has taken on new life as a venue for vintage decorators, professional craft makers, antique collectors and resellers looking for things we can flip for a profit. What will we find in its dozens of classrooms to tantalize us?
    This place is fun for those of us who like to mix our antique and vintage into our everyday living. Each classroom is staged by a different dealer, each with its own feel and style, with foci ranging from repurposed & revitalized vintage furniture to 1940s elegant glass giftware, vintage fashion, antique salvage, even a case of pocket knives and cutlery! This bright and fun antique collective is likely to have some bargains tucked away for us to resell...how do we find them?
    The answer comes as we wend our way through crooked corridors, down staircases and in-and-out of what was the old gym (now an events center and antique overflow space), past the old cafeteria (now a great scratch-made weekend restaurant) and into the old library, where shelves teem with antique pottery, 1950s kitsch, and goodies galore for us to explore! This venue proves profitable as well as fun to shop, and we send a pile up to the principal's office to hold for us to buy. What a perfect rainy day tonic antique shopping is!
    Here's more of what we see on our journey:
    Mercury emblem, black amethyst Scotty ashtray, lion still bank, Blue Mountain Pottery horse, Pilgrim cranberry ewer, Tonalá ewer, Shawnee Corn ware, Murano dish, hanging metal cage 1970s lamp, Masonic 1910s convex glass logo, 1890s corbels and newell post, antique twig table, Reuven Glass vase, vintage linens, 1960s rolling pin foot stool, Stangl ewer, Frankoma Mayan-Aztec decanter, Fitz & Floyd Calla Lily tray, 1880s Old Paris vases, Bluebird Nippon beverage set, Fire Cry fire alarm, Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Register, apple press, 1950s Asian figural lamp set, 1930s quilts, 1970s fruit party light set, embossed For Rent sign, Coke clothing, 1930s waterfall bedroom set, brass figures and novelties, 1930s fish tank with lamp, 1950s fiberglass shade lamp, painted 1910s furniture, 1930s drape optic stemware, Reed & Barton enameled blue dish, Viking Epic compote, Westmoreland jar, Tilso 1950s smoker, Fostoria Jamestown stems, Avon Cape Cod, French vitrines, circa 1900 American oak hutch, 1880s store cabinet, 1910s women's boots, 1904 World's Fair shell souvenir, 1910s sheep shearing device, Hammersley-Spode owl jar, 1950s novelty shakers, Fostoria Contour House of Representatives cocktail pitcher, old barrels, coal owl figure, aluminum 1950s coaster/ashtrays, McCoy Harmony console, Moon & Stars glass, Cholla cactus scenic shade lamp, Penguin hot/cold keeper, Autumn Leaf stacking casseroles, Mar-Crest Daisy & Dot dinnerware, 1970s nail art sculpture, etc.

    Good evening, George! The old tins next to the Rubens vase caught my attention. That fire alarm would make a rare doorbell🤪😂There were a pair of vases on the table behind Zeno, when he had the hatchet, that were really pretty. I liked the Victorian mantle ewer on the waterfall vanity. Liked the Art Deco fish stand, AND the lamp behind it. Wow! That large brass (?) lamp, with the glass shade, on the shelf with the basset hound really caught my eye. I've never seen a sheep shearing apparatus like that. I have my great-grandfather's hand sheep shears, like the ones hanging on the wall in that next room. I have a large coal sculpture of a miner with his lunch pail and donkey pulling a coal cart on rails. The old wood stirrups like were on the shelf make good napkin holders. I'm not a fan of amberina. The red and yellow together looks a bit "Romper Room" to me. There's a lot of nice and interesting things there! Thanks for the take-along!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like tins, not sure how I missed those! I do think the fire alarm would be great in another use like that. The fish stand is on my bucket list! My sheep shearer in the family immediately explained that the shearer seen is an 1890s one used in the field by an assistant helping the head shearer. Amberina is so strongly identified with the 1960s to me that I have a hard time with traditional pieces in that color (I like Victorian peachblow, personally). I'm glad you got to go with the axe-wielding maniac and me!

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Whew! Could you imagine that fire alarm as an alarm clock 😬 If that thing went off at 5:00am, it would make anyone have a complete nervous breakdown 🤪🤣 OK, now the sheep shearer makes sense. I couldn't figure out how that could be used to actually shear sheep. Like you, I much prefer Victorian peachblow. I have an Indiana Glass "Heirloom", (it actually goes by three different names, depending on the colour of glass used), water set. Most of the "Heirloom" ones were made in amberina, but I took care to find one that is all red...just don't care for amberina. Had Xeno been reading up on Lizzie Borden? 😆

    Regarding the sheep Shearing machine, if not mistaken, I believe it is a flywheel system which would be linked to a cabled trimmers. No batteries and limited electricity access and small motors back then. Simple method to create the power necessary to run a trimmer on the farm. Similar in concept to the pedal based sewing machine flywheel systems you see on old sewing machines.

    I collect all colors of depression glass, my pattern is Sharon/Cabbage Rose by Federal, I use the plates and serving dishes for holiday meals because they are in mostly green and amber, and my teacups and saucers are mostly pink. They work so well with my Savanna by Noritake wedding china from 1979, there is a white background with green floral border with pink, yellow and blue flowers and a platinum rim and they go so well together. So I agree with you that using your depression glass is perfectly fine and should be done or why just keep it hidden away? I display some of mine in my china hutch so I can admire it every day.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here’s the best info I could find from a Mar-Crest collector group: “ I've heard that older, 50's and 60' stoneware pieces are "probably" lead-free, although, you shouldn't use pieces that don't have a shiny glaze and/or have cracks. Avoid acidic foods and drinks in Mar-crest pieces that are worn and/or cracked. I drink out of a Mar-crest stein every single day, and have for a few years. If you're very concerned, you can purchase a lead test kit at a hardware store and follow the directions. Did you realize that leaded crystal contains lead? And that lead is not the only potentially dangerous element that can possibly found in pottery glazes? Glazes from other countries, especially very colorful pieces, may be of utmost concern.”
