Great video! Looking forward to seeing the 25L and 28L comparison to help folks decide between the two, as well as getting your thoughts on which makes a better personal item bag to accompany a carry on for those looking for something that can just hold their essentials like laptop, headphones jacket and for extra space if needed
Deuter makes good stuff, and great deal! I just checked their website and I don't see the Aviant for sale, I wonder if they're discontinuing it which is why you got it for so cheap?
Thanks Geoff! Duffels are a strange breed given airline cabin luggage size restrictions. Being 11” tall and 10” wide, it doesn’t really fit within either personal item or carry-on sizes. It’s hard to imagine this pack slipping under Economy seats standing up. Add to that the fact that it’s easy to overpack this bag and make it fat, it’s a weird value proposition. And yet, I see people with them all the time, since they are so convenient for access to your stuff while traveling. I wonder if airlines will start cracking down on them in yet another grab for add-on fees?
Yes duffels are strange, it's the perfect style to maximize your capacity, but too often they are either too long or too fat. It's very easy to overpack this bag, but also easy to underpack it. I'm hoping after that Spirit lawsuit where they had to pay 8.2 million for overcharging bag fees that the airlines will back off and start to be more leanient about these packs that are just barely over the limit, but I haven't seen it happen yet.
I use duffel style bags a lot because I travel with a bass guitar which is my backpack. I ordered this bag (35l) around Thanksgiving. I really wanted to like this bag. I thought it was too flimsy. I also thought it had too many access zippers which were unnecessary. The 2 outside pockets were too small to put My Sony headphones in. I also have a medium garment folder that just missed fitting in. I use that to pack a dress shirt or 2 and pants . It’s 12x16 inches. I find anything smaller will really wrinkle my gig clothes. I couldn’t find a use for the inside stretch webbing on the sides of each compartment. My sunglass case, electric toothbrush brush case were too big. I really like the AER travel Weekender duffel. It seems to make more sense for how I pack. It’s not as flimsy and is $100 cheaper.
This bag has a distinctive style that definitely doesn't work for everyone, sounds like it just doesn't mesh with your packing style but glad you found one that does. Aer makes some great packs.
Good to know about the AER duffle. Also a musician here that carries an instrument on their back so I’ve been researching duffles instead of wearing my travel backpack on my front like I’ve been doing for the last few years.
Frontier and Spirit have gotten very strict about personal items. They will ask you to put it into the sizer and it has to slide in. You can't "massage" it to make it fit. They are trying to raise income from carry-ons that they charge to bring whereas if it is personal size, no charge. I like the idea of clam style duffle but this one seems to have way too many pockets that are very slender and packed, they just increase the dimensions.
Good to know about Spirit, it's been awhile since I've flown with them. And yes, if you're on the edge of fitting it's best to err on the side of caution and go with a smaller bag. Or pay extra for a carry-on.
Looking forward to your comparison with the 25L version. I'm concerned the laptop placement on the 25 will collapse in on itself when not completely full.
Geoff?! THAT is the spelling I like. Thanks for this. Would this be a "personal items" bag? Love your detail and easy delivery. Most of these people here are obnoxious. :))
Geoff is the bestspelling 😉The Pakt One 28 is a little big for a personal item. They have another 25L duffel bag that I tried and does fit in a United personal item sizer.
Neat review! will you be doing a comparison video between the 28L and 25L ? Also, do you have any footage or can comment if the bag can fit under the seat of a plane?
Yeah I have both, am planning on doing a comparison. I took the 25L duffle as a personal item on United Airlines, here is a pic in the sizer box and in the overhead: imgur.com/gallery/pakt-25l-duffle-as-personal-item-united-airlines-r0rsviF
Haha, good point, I just assume everyone knows what the sleeve is! It's a sleeve or loop on a backpack that fits over the handle on a rolling luggage. Lets you carry your larger roller with the small backpack over the handle so you don't have to wear it on your back, it's easier to get your stuff and carry through airports.
@@OneBagTravels Well, I'm learning. I've only flown across the pond once, Vienna, a long time ago. I know I am going to be stunned at everything when I walk in that airport! Thanks, Geoff.
@@KelvinHew7 Pakt I think makes a better one bag, if you already have the CTB26 I'd go with something simplier with a big main pocket for easy storage, so here I'd go with the TD35.
@@KelvinHew7 I haven't actually tried the TD35, but I've tested several of their other packs. The shoulder strap looks modest but sufficient for that level of carry. All their other bags have slimmish padding but they use a thicker density foam that's more comfortable than thicker stuff that's less dense.
It’s kind of tiring how many manufacturers try and push size allowances by over-sizing an inch or two over common numbers. Is it too much to ask to have bags which fit easily into sizers? I’m a pretty experienced one bag packer, and I can usually pack down to a size. Just comply please, I don’t want to be worrying about gate checking or paying extra.
I'm spoiled by Italian brands, this kind of ugliness is unbearable, the v1 was an exact copy of the Piquadro Blue Square Travel Bag 47 cm but instead of beautiful Italian leather a potato sack polyester. LOL )))))))) The US market is soooo different.
@@OneBagTravels I meant this one Piquadro BV4342B2-N the bag is only available in black and mahogany, in case you're interested, and you can get it for around €420, so the difference is a tiny €140 for the beautiful Italian leather and the brand.
Looking forward to seeing how you pack this in part 2. 🙂 Thanks for your excellent work!

Should be interesting, 25 is a top opening duffel so completely different design, it's also much closer to personal item size.
I loved this duffel bag! I think is not for all trips, but I think we can take advantage of this one! Thanks for your review!
Totally agree, thanks!
Another good review. I treated myself to a Deuter Aviant Carry On 28L for Christmas, which was 1/2 price. Looking forward to trying under 40L travel.

@@OneBagTravels Yes, it was discontinued and I'll happily take the last of their stock off their hands.

Would this duffel be a good 2 bag travel with the CTB26? Im considering this or the TD35
