  • I have 2 x Receive loops, this is the small one. It does work and should be considered if you have a small yard/garden area. Quite remarkable. You DO NOT need a Pre-Amp..

    I´m using a 35 mts grounded loop for rx as really efective antenna, very low noise and good N-S range.

    The Loop On Ground antenna is a great option if you have a very noisy QTH that is also very simple to install and repair. Works great for SWL as well.

      Does the LoG work as well as a wire on a tall tree for SWL? Trying to figure out what to do on my property right now.

    GLENN N5MCH again! Solitary in most of my endeavors, I see you as a master of all elements of Ham Radio, and much beyond. My Elmer, 95 and alert, spent his body’s energy in the same profound focused action to create excellent systems. He contributed to ham radio and his community and accociations his all! Gerald, W5NJJ, and I worked his towers, and acres of antennas! So what! So, I find myself kinda astounded at seeing someone like your self at work! It is pure magic, pure poetry, and the electrons are the happier for it! I’m complimenting you because after 50 years in the hobby, you have the best organization and style I’ve ever seen! Your goodwill towards these poor United States is welcomed and noted!

    Hey Callum I ran across a really cool article in QST magazine from September of 1995 on A K6STI low noise receiving Antenna for 80 and 160. If you can look that up on the net give it a read. I'm thinking of giving it a go. 73 from Texas

Bet it's that Dave Casler moaning he doesnt have a manual. Im sure you have had enough of it all by now, so will shut up! Am thinking of a loop on the ground using prebuilt sections of say 100 or 200 meters of RG6 and connecting them to RG6 females mounted in a plastic box containing the matching transformer. My conductor would be the outer braid rather than the inner wire. My yard is heavily wooded so the area contained would be more like a circle. Because RG6 is less expensive would I loose much by having it as the lead-in to the radio or stay conventional and use RG58? Thanks… BTW the DX Commander arrived yesterday in good order. Thanks

      You'll be fine.. I have thoughts on "loop on ground" antennas. Just that I discovered that a larger circomference (as you are suggesting) is better and the one I have that is 90m all the way around and 12-inches off the ground is a lovely RX antenna.

    It works with any lenght? Any minimum?

      Ideally, for a TUNED loop, aim for exactly one wavelength.

  • @Chriswoodworker

    Does this loop on the ground antenna have to be a perfect square? The area I have free is 12ft x 18ft. Thats 60ft total. Will that be ok do you think?

    • @DXCommanderHQ
      @DXCommanderHQ  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Go 12 x 12 then.. It'll work fine.. Just not too much of an oblong.

    QUESTION. Hi Cal, my 1st question in I am going to build this antenna, which would be better lossy cxheap coak or better stuff for the run in? #2 did you come up with the type of transformer you used for it? 73 de va3get

    • @DXCommanderHQ
      @DXCommanderHQ  ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, so the transformer is apparently 73-material binocular core ferrite (Amidon #BN-73-202 or Fair-Rite #2873000202) and for coax.. Frankly ANYTHING will do in my opinion..

      Hey Calum, I built my 15 ft. loop in my small garden between my shack and raised back porch, 3 ft on either side. I used a small 1-1 balun and 18ga. silicone wire. Cal, it works like a dam. The noise floor dropped to S1ffrom S6, waterfall went from blue with white snow to black with signals showing more, I tested and could hear all quite well., Man, am I impressed. thanks so much for your videos on this type of antenna, I have watched them all. hope to catch you on the air now. 73 de va3get

    did you lay that that loop over part of your radial system? That would be a bad idea, inducing the noise environment you are trying to avoid into the loop. I think this is one mistake people keep making with this LOG idea, it needs to be in an uncluttered(RF wise) place. any wires,fences, power cables, gas pipes etc defeat the purpose.
