I'm 65 years old and I still practice my handwriting I noticed a lot of young people can't read cursive writing anymore you made me look at my handwriting and a whole new way thank you very much
@@denisebmz78 my penmanship might be the only thing people have to judge me by when I'm dead and gone I hope I leave a good impression I only hope that the young people we'll take the same Pride and their penmanship I practice with my grandchildren regular basis that's the fun part of my day
Lucky Davis I can’t wait to practice with my granddaughters! The oldest (5) already has an affinity for writing her letters; and she and her little sister LOVE all of my many pens. Do you have a stockpile of pens and still get more when you’re shopping like I do? LOL. I’m off to the store to get some .5 microns on Tuesday. By the way, I love your thoughts on leaving a legacy of your wonderful penmanship. Have you written a journal or diary of sorts?
@@denisebmz78 yes I have bought many fountain pens pencils just to name a few things but it is something I enjoy doing my granddaughters 8 years old and I think one day she will have the best handwriting in school even though it seems to irritate my wife that I take so much time with it but it's good that my granddaughter loves it
You're talking about both my kids! 25 and 20 respectively. It's sad and I feel our educational system failed them miserably. For young people it's a totally foreign language :( My daughter cannot read her grandma's handwritten recipes. By the way, these handwritten recipes done in cursive are sold as 'vintage' on Etsy. Another lost art....
I've been trying to learn to do this writing for a very long time. I'm 59 years old a few people have tried to teach me calligraphy. You are the best teacher ever by far. Your voice is perfect pitch so very easy to listen to over and over. I've saved everyone of your tutorials I can go back when I'm not sure of something I thank you so very much for sharing your amazing gift with us all. Have you ever thought of being a teacher for real??
👉🏻It´s probably one of the best tutorials I’ve ever seen!!👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼: Not only you teach the block letters shapes, but you also teach the method to do it! Congratulations and thanks a lot for your fantastic tutorial!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is the kind of thing that I love to do while sitting and listening, whether it’s a phone call, a sermon, tv, I have to doodle while I listen so why not practice making nice straight lines! I really enjoyed this video!
I loved drafting in high school and since I write in block letters 95% of the time. Funny. I started following you to improve my other styles. You're an awesome teacher!
I learned to write block letters in mechanical drawing class in middle school years ago. I still use this technique today. I love it! Thank you for sharing!
I’m really learning a lot from you. It’s in slow motion but I am learning. Being left handed doesn’t help either but it doesn’t stop me. I appreciate your teaching materials and will continue to practice. Love your channel
I too took graphic design in high school and the ability to write in block letters is the one thing that stuck with me. Thank you for the refresher course!😍
In my 40s and I did my block letter apprenticeship with aerosol and 7ft letters. Commonly known as Public's. Great show Becca BTW, just found it today whilst playing with my Tombows and Chameleons. Fade in, fade out. Good to see another right hander getting creative too 👌
Seriously, you are so awesome. You teach so very well. You voice is easy to listen to and you take time to represent what you are teaching at a slow pace. I'm loving this, again, thank you.
this video is so nicely made. I can imagine how much hard work you must have put into every step trying to teach us everything properly. I'm so thankful for this video! ❤
These tips are amazing - thank you, Becca! I found I saved a lot of time by inserting the guidelines directly in the word processor so that the exemplar to trace already had them, but then I could also print out blank sheets that already had guidelines to practice on. Thought I would share in case anyone else struggles with a ruler as much as I do! :)
I loved this video! You get right to the point and present all the relevant information in a way that's interesting and engaging. I look forward to watching more videos from you.
Signed up for a tour in the U.S. Navy... Learned block lettering (basics only) for log books. You get that right... in or around 4 years, and you can expand on it for anything... I have things I probably wouldn't do "the second time round"... BUT I can't say it was a bad choice... Mil-spec "block" is all cap's... JUST start the line/sentence with a BIG "Cap" and draw the rest of them at about "half size"... go for it. When you move from the "standard mil-spec" block, you enter the "manuscript" font territory... AND it's okay. Decide on the "rules" and move on... I still use a guide, myself, to look at a thing I want to make as I go... letter for letter... and thus, stroke for stroke. ;o)
Much more in-depth video than I thought it could/would be - I feel like this would just be good practice for hand control for all kinds of lettering. Thanks for what you do, Becca! ;)
My dad always taught me “pull a pencil, never push a pencil” since I was a little boy. My dad took many years of drafting and he has impeccable block lettering - he writes this way constantly, even for notes he writes himself, which to me is crazy. I don’t think your “preference” to do lines in a downward direction has much to do with preference as it does the mechanics of the hand. Same thing for counterclockwise circles / ovals.
Great video! I really like the look of calligraphy interspersed with small block lettering. Especially for wedding invitations (not that I doing them, yet). Sometimes if it's just calligraphy, it starts to bleed all together visually (well, for some of us anyway!). Thanks a bunch!
First time know about you. Yiu appeared in my searching. This is a really neat video with smooth personality. First exercise is great for kids are learning cursive. Thanks for yout time to share eith us your gift.
Absolutely brilliant in what you do. Got me into starting with the pencil calligraphy. Procrastinated way to long. Excellent execution in your teaching meathods. Thank you
This is a great video! I have been wondering about block letters. I did notice as I was practicing tracing block letters that I kept rotating my pen. LOL
It always amazes me that people don’t consider lettering takes practice! It was my biggest challenge when trying to teach. Some people with “bad” handwriting were my best students because they didn’t see this as easy.
Thanks a lot for amazing tutorials like this, I for one have drooled over your neat block letters for a long time - now I can get there too 😃 THANK YOU!! 💖
Dear Becca,It was Really very Helpful For Me Thanks Alot Dear👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻I have a request Dear Please Bring Up A Video In which You Share Your Brush Lettering Fonts!!
Good evening miss, I am good at paintings and art & craft, i am absolutely nill at beautiful writing and always wanted to add this art too but didn't know how to go about. Thanks a ton to you for sharing such wonderful art with all.
Becca - First, thank you so much for all the hard work you do; you continue to inspire so many of us. I do have a burning question though - @ 11:24 I notice you change your grip from thumb over your index finger on the downstroke to the more "conventional" tripod grip for the "not-a--downstroke" strokes. Thoughts, comments?
You have pointed to some very helpful and specific things to look at while printing. I had hoped, given you were in architecture in uni, that the unique 'architecture print' wasn't included in this:)! Is there a name for it...you sort of tapped on it when you discussed the 'slant' portion. Many thanks!!!
I'm 65 years old and I still practice my handwriting I noticed a lot of young people can't read cursive writing anymore you made me look at my handwriting and a whole new way thank you very much
Lucky Davis Me too and I’m 60. I love practicing different styles too, for instance changing the slant or size/shape of my letters.

Wow, I'm still getting the hang of brushpen lettering and now this 💕💕💕.

PS: If you’re learning block letters, be sure to practice numbers as well! The number 8 isn’t made with an S shape, it’s two circles!
I spent 5 years during my apprenticeship as a draughts woman printing with a pencil.Really enjoy writing.
This is a really good tutorial. I remember loving mechanical drawing class in high school, especially the lettering because I was such a neat freak.
thanks........ for sharing a lot of information..............
