I have the 2-DVD set on these Great Flying Boats and they didn't scoop-up water on the take-off on it, but came around and did a high-speed-taxi on water to do the 30-ton-water-pick-up,which would cover just under 5-acres of British Columbia Forest. I can see that on this video they did the pick-up on take-off because I can see the overflow when it's full of water, but the down-side is they would need a very long lake for this type of operation. The good thing about them as forest-fire-fighters was that they didn't have to come to a full-stop when they refilled like the DC-10,but did all their work ''On-The-Fly'',saving much time.
I love this bird , what a beast !! Can't wait to visit and see it in person
That’s a long time at T.O. Power!

Nice, but what is your point? Home base Sproat lake BC covers 18 km. in a straight line (more than 11 miles)

they must have the engines wide open and near red line for a water scoop and take off!
Wow ! Two minutes and 40 secs to lift off ! Does that include water scooping ?
Nice footage.
Correct, this is not just a regular takkeoff but a water scoop. Tnx.
Takes 30 seconds to scoop 7000 gallons, doesn't have to stop. Don't know why this is such a slow take off, normally not that long.
