Hello. Thank you for this excellent video. I am a 70 yr old female and it has only recently come to my attention that I might be autistic. So many of the things you mentioned rang true for me: principally being very bothered by outside stimulus (particularly noise); associations with others (even family); comfort in routine ; abhorrence for small talk and posturing. I am going to continue to research this possibility. Please keep doing what you are doing 😊

Echolalia - can that be other sounds? Like... I have a really hard time not mimicking animal sounds. I accidentally made enemies with a rooster that way 🥲

Oh gosh, pattern recognition too!! My dad was a codebreaker. My mom was info hifi and computers. I've worked in game testing and fraud detection!!

Yep! Echolalia doesn't have to be speech, it can be any sound that feels really appealing to repeat

I bark at dogs and caw at crows - when no one is looking!

Omg, I bark at the sea lions when I am out on a swim. I think that my family on my dad's side is somehow predisposed to echolalia, but not necessarily autism. I've always loved to make animal sounds, or strange noises, and have been told that I'm a broken record.

I like your balanced approach of how you see autism. For most people it has both benefits and deficits.

    THANK U!!!!
I thought I couldn't possibly be autistic (I'm diagnosed though) because as a child I didn't have all the trates and many have only become apparent during me early teens to now so thank you 💙

I have been looking for someone to confirm that playing with your hair is one way of stimming... ty
Also, thanks for sharing that being 'always yourself' is a trait as well (confusing why people act differently in different contexts).

I"m late diagnosed it not because the traits weren't present when I was a kid, its because nobody was being diagnosed back then. They knew I had problems as early as kindergarten.

Oh my gosh I DO use echolalia!! I meow back at cats and bark at dogs. I repeat my baby’s noises and quotes from movies (like, while watching the movie). I didn’t think about it much until my brother in law cleared his throat and it kinda sounded like my baby’s grunts, and I was this close to repeating it back to him XD

I have looked at and it is really poorly written by who? Way too many people that do not understand us.

8-9 out of 12 so um probably yeah it could be autism.

I just found your channel and watched all your videos. The most recent 6 months ago. Will you be doing more? Really useful content. Although I do giggle every time you say "see you next Tuesday" (google it) 🤭
