  • Here are the amazing features and technologies these vintage coded fire alarm pull stations possess.
    Note: I had an editing mistake in the video. The first pull is 54 years old in 2020, not 64.

    I really liked the analogy you used of it being a primitive form of an addressable system. Great video!

    Great video! I couldn’t have said how coded pull stations work & their original purposes better myself. I’ve used this video to show some fellow electricians with fire alarm licenses how they function. Keep up the great work! 👍

    There's an old Edwards coded station on display next to one of the tables at a local restaurant I used to visit quite often.

    These coded stations are what they had throughout my high school back in the 1970s. In those days they used bells so a 44 code would.be 4 dings onf the bell, a pause, followed by 4 more.dings. Back then I had a sheet that had all the stations, their codes, and location in the school. Anytime someone would.pull a box I'd count the bells and I'd right away know which stations was actuated and where in the school it was. In those days kids used to pull.a.lot.of.false.alarms and I got to know which stations were most frequently used to transmit a false alarm.
    In my teen years I was very interested in fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and fire alarm.systems. I even built.my.own fire alarm.systrm for my house. Back in those days it was not easy to get hold of actual alarm system components so I pretty.much had to build my system entirely.from scratch. I would have loved to have gotten hold.of some.actuall pull stations.

  • @J19_vlogger74
    @J19_vlogger74 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    a few questions.
    1: do the alarms stop after the 4 rounds of code?
    2 is there no panel?
    3: does the pull station have the glass as an indicator of what station was pulled because the handle doesn't stay down like modern pull stations, or is it deter people from false pulling it?
    4. is there some oversized backbox for them or do you just cut a hole in the wall or put it in
    sorry for so many questions. the only thing i really know about coded pull stations is that they exist

    • @kenshin891
      @kenshin891 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Typically coded stations do 4 rounds and them stop
      2. There's at least going to be a power panel I'd imagine, possibly a connection to a municipal Gamewell telegraph system back in the day
      3. You would know which station was pulled by the code. The glass makes it harder to pull
      4. Probably a special backbox. I saw another video with a coded station from the 30s and it had its backbox. Though the box would typically be recessed into the wall
