GA suffers for several reasons. One of which is because politicians and other bureaucrats react to the whinging of those typically, who purchase homes near an airport, then demand noise abatement be undertaken, even though the airport has been in existence for 50+ years or more...WTF. And because many in GA fail to see that unless it's promoted to the general public in a positive way, it will simply cease to exist. Thank you Stef and to all the other TH-cam pilots who are doing their bit to show how much fun GA flying can be...

Nice to see the travel vlogs, they are real quality vlogs. Love to see Helsinki as well, very cool aviation. Really cool to see the da20. It’s so disappointing to GA airports especially with such heritage to be made into houses. Its almost like the government don’t care about the history. I live in Tokyo and there is an absolute dearth of GA here. Basically, there are only commercial training opportunities. There just isn't a ma & pa flight school operating out of a smallish airport where an average bloke can wander in to take a discovery flight. Which sucks, because I'd really like to try flying more than X-Plane on my iPad.
Stef, There's a real camaraderie between pilots, I especially liked the air tour of Helsinki. So, where was the misses while you were out with the"boys"\??? :) Cheers, Rik Spector, Following you world tour faithfully.
I've been thinking about getting checked out in a DA20 to rent. The C172 is great but it's more expensive, slower, and it's usually just me and my wife. Two seats is usually fine. I might even get checked out in the DA40 too. Similar price to rent as a C172 and much quicker. As an added bonus, the Diamond aircraft are beautiful.
Yeah I'm really enjoying travelling around this part of the world. Nice to know you can go to the other side of the world but the aviation family is still strong. Thanks mate.

Malmi is the airport where my club is based at and it seems that unfortunately Malmi airport will see its last takeoffs in December 2019. I'm 17 and currently getting my PPL there and it's just sad. I've visited the airport since I was a little kid and just when I'm getting my licence the airport is being closed down.
I have to fix some of my embarrasing story.. They were expecting Hitler on malmi airport but he flew over & landed in immola..!.... Anyways we still have some time to operate the Malmi airport due to some court delays as there was some pressed charges.. The airport may be closed this summer 2020.. Thanks for the great video!!
That was a really great landing...I've been training on the DA20 for 6 months and I still get surprised at how it balloons! Keep it on 60 knots and it settles in by itself. Cross-winds are fun though!
I got out of GA, too costly, too regulated, too 'fuddy duddy'...Flying paramotors now and loving it! No hangar fees, medicals, ridiculous maintenance costs...Aircraft fits in the back of my hatch now. Have never enjoyed flying so much!
It’s sad that GA airports are closing world wide. The classic aviation film “One Six Right” touches on this subject, & tells the story of Chicago’s Meigs field.

You guys all hit the nail on the head about the lack of pilots. I remember being in the AIRTC in the 80s. Spending time at Hoxton Park Aerodrome. Then driving past it in late 2008 to see it had been ripped up. 😢💔
Yeah I remember Hoxton Park well, was a sad day when we found out it was closing. Driving past it now and seeing all the industrial buildings seems like a real waste.
Slick little airplane, the 20 is! Just keep an eye on the oil pressure! My last DA-20 flight...just after rotation, too late to put 'er back down...total loss of oil pressure. Continued climb to a bit above 1000agl, brought 'er right back in (winds were relatively calm). This particular aircraft ended up getting it's 2nd engine replacement....not good for a fairly new airplane! As I understand it...from the mechs words...this seems to be a fairly common issue.
You made a great point Stef, without GA airports there will be no new pilot training with obvious implications for aviation in general now that demand is at its highest and its projected to become even more so. Humans act like humans where the greed for the quick profit for a few will create difficulties for millions in the future.
