Asia's 1st album. A sea serpent and a green orb (Loc-Nar perhaps). An album from a supergroup named after a continent from where none of the members came. A progressive radio friendly album which was the #1 selling album among all genres in 1982. All of this combined makes no sense, which is one of the reasons I love the album sleeve. Another reason is just because it's pretty cool in my opinion.
Good choices. I would add Elton John's amazing CAPTAIN FANTASTIC AND THE BROWN DIRT COWBOY cover - one that you can get lost in for lengthy periods. In contrast, the stark simplicity of Pink Floyd's DARK SIDE OF THE MOON remains eye grabbing and appropriate for the music within. Herbert Worthington had powerful black & white images on a trio of Fleetwood Mac records.
PF's iconic prism over a black background had always been iconic to me, drawing me into a musical universe heretofore unknown as a 17 yr old lad. Simple yet profound. Unforgettable. Other LP cover I loved (incl not-so classic rock/metal): Sgt Peppers, Leftoverture (Kansas), Grand Illusion (Styx), Filosofem (Burzum), The Hurting (TFF), etc.
Some of my favorites would be The Cult - Love, Screaming Trees - Uncle Anesthesia, The Mars Volta - The Bedlam In Goliath, Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing At Baxter's, Ozric Tentacles - Lotus Unfolding, The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love, Megadeth - Rust In Peace, Shpongle - Ineffable Mysteries From Shpongleland, Dinosaur Jr. - Green Mind, Circa Survive - The Amulet, Sky Cries Mary - This Timeless Turning, Slift - Ummon, Kyuss - And The Circus Leaves Town, Tumbleweed - Weedseed, Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream. There are so many more I could keep going but I that's enough.

The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Honorable mentions: Led Zeppelin 1, Mezzanine - Massive Attack, The Who - Who's Next
Dylan's mid-sixties trilogy of masterpieces Bring it all Back Home, Highway 61Revisited and Blonde on Blonde all have wonderful portraits on the covers. Conversely, Shot of Love from the eighties is jaw-droopingly bad.
You were right to avoid Roger Dean. Great though he is, there’s a lot of other superb work out there. For me Alladin Sane is a masterpiece of album art work.
Great list. My favorite is Muddy Waters - After The Rain The photo of him with a bullfrog is classic. Looks like he just came inside from a thunderstorm. I like a lot of Steely Dan's album covers too, Aja and Pretzel Logic in particular. Cheers from Canada
Reading throught he comments some great ones I never considered! Here are some that pop to mind: Neil Young - Harvest Ween - Chocolate and Cheese Rush - anything by Hugh Syme (especially in the 80's) Yes - Relayer T. Rex - Electric Warrior Sleep - Dopesmoker The Black Keys - Brothers The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Frank Zappa - Apostrophe Pure Prairie League - Can't Hold Back (j/k)
Let it Bleed and It's Only Rock n Roll. The latter has a sorta understated grandness, and I appreciate that the band is kinda embracing their own greatness - even if many (not me) dislike the album.
You missed the 10 best. First Black Sabbath. Tull's Stand Up, In the Court of the Crimson King, Brain Salad Surgery, Axis Bold as Love, Close To The Edge, Birds of Fire, Rubber Soul, Tommy, Only the Lonely -- Frank Sinatra. ,

I like Chrsitine Frka emerging from an empty pool on Zappa's Hot Rats. Trees only album was a bit likee this as well. I quite liked the 1980s Maiden records like Somewhere In Time, which was almost like a Richard Scarry picture, in that it was packed with details and references you could keep going back to and look at while listening to the record, finding new things. One that I remember from my parent's collection was the Box Tops - Non Stop where they are on a locomotive. I absolutely loved the cover as a small child, they just looked so cool, and when I was old enough to be allowed to play LPs on my own, I played it, but it never really lived up to my expectiations from the cover! Until then, I'd been allowed to play whatever I wanted from their large 8 track colllection and was only allowd to put on records when I was about 8 or so.
Good choices. Iconic. Surprised didn't choose anything from Yes. Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are good contenders. Something from Bowie would work too.
Joy Division -Closer, Nico- The Marble Index, The Flying Burrito Brothers- The Guilded Palace Of Sin, New Order- Low Life, John Cale- Fear, Kraftwerk- Trans Europe Express, The Velvet Undergrounds' third album, Nick Drake- Bryter Layter, and Luna- Rendezvous.
Are you teasing us Barry ? Rumours ? Really ? Love that Kate Bush cover but a few here don't belong. How about Caravan - Land of Grey and Pink; The Doors - Strange Days; Sabbath - Debut; Patti Smith - Horses; Alice Cooper - Killer....

This seems to be more like iconic covers instead of great covers. Queen’s News Of The World is a great one. I appreciate the inclusion of the Elvis cover.
Great choices! Several LP sleeves I am fond of are "Clear Air Turbulence" (Ian Gillan Band) and former Deep purple member David Coverdale and the Japanese import of Whitesnake's "Live at Hammersmith."
My top 10 fav cover art, Shhhh. Ten Years After. Aladdin Sane. David. Live and Loud, Sammy Hagar. Sabotage, Black Sabbath. Journeyman, Eric Clapton. Crash landing, Jimi . Back Street Crawler, Paul Kossof. If you want blood, AC/DC. Machine Gun, Jimi Hendrix. Live and Dangerous, Thin Lizzy.
I’d never thought of Heaven and Hell as being that iconic, but you’re correct here. Not to mention the remarkable music inside. My favorite is still Pink Floyd’s “Animals”, though it’s far from my favorite Floyd album

I don't always agree with you but love your channel all the same. I've have always been more into progressive rock, so one of my favorite album covers is Mike Oldfield, Platinum. Although many of his album covers are stunning. And not sure Nirvana album is a true classic yet. Needs to age a bit longer. LoL
My fave sleeves:
Roxy music -'For your pleasure' and 'Avalon'
Peter Gabriel - 3
David Bowie - "Low"
Killing Joke - debut
The Cure - "Disintegration"
Fleetwood Mac - "Tango in the Night"

Tales from Topographic Oceans by Yes.
All the early Yes covers. Ditto Genesis when Gabriel was with them.

The Mapplethorpe covers for Patti Smith's albums are terrific. All time favorite is Aqualung.

My list would have to include Ziggy Stardust.
Oh...and Undercurrent by Bill Evans. Fantastic photograph taken in the 30's by Toni Frizzell. I love this cover
Talking of Joni Mitchell, one of my faves is " The Hissing of Summer Lawns" which she painted herself.
I can only assume overexposure has coloured your opinion of the greatest album sleeve of all - Dark Side of the Moon.
10. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
9.The Smiths - The Smiths
8. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
7. New York Dolls - New York Dolls
6. The Beatles - Abbey Road
5. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
4. David Bowie - Diamond Dogs
3. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
2. Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers (orig with zipper)
1. The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's
Honorable mentions: Led Zeppelin 1, Mezzanine - Massive Attack, The Who - Who's Next
Great list. My favorite is Muddy Waters - After The Rain
The photo of him with a bullfrog is classic. Looks like he just came inside from a thunderstorm.
I like a lot of Steely Dan's album covers too, Aja and Pretzel Logic in particular. Cheers from Canada
Reading throught he comments some great ones I never considered! Here are some that pop to mind:
Neil Young - Harvest
Ween - Chocolate and Cheese
Rush - anything by Hugh Syme (especially in the 80's)
Yes - Relayer
T. Rex - Electric Warrior
Sleep - Dopesmoker
The Black Keys - Brothers
The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Frank Zappa - Apostrophe
Pure Prairie League - Can't Hold Back (j/k)
The best kind of portrait is where you look at the subject and say "Gosh, I wonder what he/she is thinking about!". That's true of all of these.
good list. Manferd Manns earth band: Watch, is my number one
Let it Bleed and It's Only Rock n Roll. The latter has a sorta understated grandness, and I appreciate that the band is kinda embracing their own greatness - even if many (not me) dislike the album.
You missed the 10 best. First Black Sabbath. Tull's Stand Up, In the Court of the Crimson King, Brain Salad Surgery, Axis Bold as Love, Close To The Edge, Birds of Fire, Rubber Soul, Tommy, Only the Lonely -- Frank Sinatra. ,
Stranded Roxy Music....Home Hothouse Flowers...Nowhere Ride...Breakfast in America Supertramp...Abba ABBA...
I've always loved the Pretty Things 'Silk Torpedo' album artwork.
I like Dylan album covers
Revolver and the White Album are my favs
@@davidkornblatt851 the White Album..😂 ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ 😬
@@ArtbyJoeH think about it after Pepper what do you do as a rock band?
Sticky Fingers The Rolling Stones
Some covers I have always liked, for different reasons..
Any Boney M cover.... 😁
Wayne Shorter - Speak no evil
Eurythmics - Touch
Ulver - Shadows of the sun
Smashing Pumkins - Siamese Dream
Wish you were here
Nico - Desert shore
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bell
Kraftwerk - Autobahn
Grace Jones - Nightclubbing
Roxy Music - Avalon
Dead Can Dance - Within the realm
DSOTM
NAS -Illmatic
1975 bought my first ever LP cause of its cover art. Magicians Birthday Uriah Heep🕉️
Roger Dean and H.R. Giger always hooked me in the seventies.
Magritte, Dali, Frazzetti(?)... yea
Your work is cool, too.
Peace on earth.
I love Alice Cooper's Greatest Hits LP cover
A great list . I would have included Deep purple "In Rock", and Led Zeppelin four.
I love Magnum's On a Storyteller's Night, fantastic fantasy artwork by Rodney Matthews. And, of course, all of the Iron Maiden covers by Derek Riggs.
' pendulous balls . . . "
LMFAO 😂❤
Favorite cover for me is Breakfast in America by Supertramp. Very clever photo.
My top 10 fav cover art,
Shhhh.
Brain Salad Surgery - ELP. Done by H.R. Giger who designed the Alien for the films.
Agreed, I like Tarkus as well.

travelled to London in January 2020 to see the bass from London Calling at an exhibition
I don't always agree with you but love your channel all the same. I've have always been more into progressive rock, so one of my favorite album covers is Mike Oldfield, Platinum. Although many of his album covers are stunning. And not sure Nirvana album is a true classic yet. Needs to age a bit longer. LoL
Barry's favorite covers of popular, well-known albums.
Brilliant !
Cool Struttin by Sonny Clark, picture of a woman walking in New York. I just love her shoes! 😃
You obviously have a pretty specific taste in covers. I'd like to see you spread out a bit into other styles.
